New Canvas for Guest Room

I popped into Inspired Living to check out their selection of canvases.....I've been searching for one for the guest bedroom (when it gets refreshed).  I thought I would share a few I found.....and the one I purchased....some were framed such as this one....love the muted colours....

This one is so pretty.....they've carried it in other colour variations....they never seem to last long in the store....this one is framed as well...

I'm obsessed with this highland cow canvas.....it is a huge piece....don't think I didn't wrack my brain  to figure out where I could hang it in this seventies split....ugh......no place came to mind...

One owner of the store claimed this was a "self portrait" of himself.....I had to chuckle....

And this....this is the one I went in for!   After three trips around the store....I finally came across it....it appears I have a thing for old trucks....

These rechargeable hurricane lamps are adorable....would be perfect on the mantle at Christmas....but carried the hefty price tag of $82 each!   A steep price in my opinion....

If I planned to place a couple of chairs at our kitchen table.....and if I had the room....these would be the ones!  There were two...and as much as I love them.....we just don't have room in our narrow eating area....

How pretty are these vases?  Not overly sized....but could hold a small, pretty bouquet....

Mr. Seventies & our son-in-law enjoyed their Father's Day and the cupcakes for dessert were a huge hit.....and possibly the best tasting cupcakes....ever!!  So fresh & the "footballs" were chocolate covered strawberries....delicious!  There were six chocolate and six vanilla....I'll definitely be ordering again for upcoming birthdays & celebrations....

My rattan handbag arrived....unfortunately it was damaged so I'll be sending it back today & re-ordering...it is an adorable bag....great quality except for this one flaw....

I'm struggling to find an outfit for this upcoming wedding!  The one I shared the other day....won't work!  I hadn't tried anything on.....and was surprised who many pieces are just to big & baggy on me now!  I decided to go through my closet & try on a few things.  Same outcome!  A denim dress & vest & skirt....are baggy on me....even with a belt on the skirt....it doesn't work.  And most of the pieces.....I've never worn!

Daughter to the rescue.....she has 4-5 new dresses that she is unable to wear....I'm going to try them on & perhaps one will be suitable.  If not, I will have to shop & find something that will work.  Due to my weight loss (and old age).....I don't like baring my arms!  I'll ned a 3/4 sleeve or pull on a shrug or short sweater....the struggle is real & I never thought I'd have this issue.   But such is life.....

A quick photo of our second rhododendron beginning to bloom.....this deep cranberry colour is my favourite!  It's a bit of a cranky shrub....we planted it well over thirty years ago & it has struggled & while not the greatest shape it produces beautiful blooms.....just on its own terms....and time....

Just Couldn't Do It

I tried to browse the thrift store....I really did!  It's where I would pick up stuffy toys for Liesel....bringing them home....run them through the washer & dryer....she would be so excited to have "new to her" stuffies.  I lasted in the store only minutes.....but had to leave.  I avoid pet sections...it hurts too much....still.

As I walked in the store....this toy box was a blast from the past!  Our youngest....had the exact toy box!!  This one was still in great shape....with three daughters, we survived the Cabbage Patch doll obsession!!

I picked up this casserole dish....perfect size .....I set it in the cart & headed for the check out!  And with that, ended my visit to the thrift store.  I'm sure you understand.....at some future time,  I will visit the thrift stores again.....just not this day.

I used an Amazon gift card....and ordered this cute handbag for the upcoming wedding....

I've been searching in stores and on-line for replacement cushions for our outdoor wicker furniture.  There's nothing wrong with the current ones....just wanting cushions a bit fuller.   The price of cushions is ridiculous....and finding a bench cushion has proven so difficult!

While roaming at a local store, waiting for Mr. Seventies to find what he was looking for....I wandered into the patio furniture section.  And noticed two sets....with love seats - and the love seats did not have  bench cushions....but rather two seat & two back cushions!  They were complete sets....being sold that way....

Brilliant!  Why hadn't I thought of that?  I ordered eight cushion sets - seat & back cushions...two for the love seat & a set for each wicker chair!   For a whopping $80!!!  The best price I found here was $69...for one set!!

I'm hoping the quality & durability match my expectations....if not I can send them back.   This is the colour I ordered....

My electric blanket is arriving today....I pray the quality is great....you never know when ordering online!  I cannot stress how I have missed the warmth of an electric blanket....it's the little things!

I had suspicions my iron was low again....but my bloodwork was great & I can now reduce taking the iron medication from daily.....to every third day!  That's a win....

Showers here this morning....then clearing for the day!  Hope you have & awesome day & thanks so much for hanging out with me!

Til next time...

The Lamps Saga.....and More

If you've been reading here a while,  you probably remember the gorgeous lamps I walked away from at Home Sense....and have regretted it ever since!   We've been using lamps....that I purchased....and have detested ever since...to refresh your memory....these are them....ugh.

After six months.....they have not grown on me!  I've given up hope of ever finding exactly the ones I want.....so these are on order & should arrive later in the week....while I don't love them.....I like them a lot....more than the ones pictured above...

Much to my disbelief.....our electric blanket has quit working!!  Almost a catastrophe in this house!  They sure don't last like they use to.....and I'm not ready to be without it just yet!  The nights still cool down....and I want a warm & cosy bed when I get in!   The only good thing is....they are on sale right now....if there was a good time to purchase.....now is that time....love the burgandy colour of this one....can't wait for it to arrive later in the week as well....

I woke up....in the middle of the night.....a few nights ago....remembering we had not RSVP'd to an upcoming wedding....replies are due in later this week!   The invitation had a QR code to scan....so that was easy....I don't know why I suddenly remembered to do that!  It's been sitting for a few months.... strange how the brain works....

Rather than purchase a new outfit.....I have clothes that I've never worn.....some I by-passed while losing weight....but this skirt & pretty sweater still fit....it's not a formal wedding....Mr. Seventies is wearing casual dress pants & shirt.....no hot suit for that guy....

This is the tiered skirt.....in this colour.....with the sweater pictured below....

I have a lacy, white cami I plan to wear underneath.....if it's cool that day.....I have a shrug I can throw on....

Most of my sandals are very casual....I needed something a little more "dressy".....these ones will work just fine.....and are super comfortable (most important)..... and they are a soft pink colour!!!

I need a straw handbag....will order or pick one up next time I'm out and about....what do you think?  Ok to wear to a casual wedding??  The wedding is out of province....so we will need to travel to it.....but still within driving distance....

And .....just look at one of our gorgeous rhododendron shrubs....in all her glory this year....covered in blooms!!

We had a downpour & thunder storm overnight Saturday....it rained & rained for hours!!  Then yesterday it was windy....and really cool!   We took a drive to the north shore of the Island....stopping at Cows in the resort of Cavendish....for an ice cream....

There were a large number of people shopping about.....one vehicle from Virginia....ahead of us in the  line up to order were about 8-9 young Japanese tourists.  If you know anything about Anne of Green Gables....the Japanese are obsessed with the fictional story!  They were testing the various samples of ice cream flavours available.....struggling to make their decisions!  One sweet lad insisted we go ahead of them.....since clearly it would be a while before they ordered....they were all so polite & sweet!!

And....since fall is my favourite time of year....it's never too early to add a few things!  These are available either on Temu or Shein.....you can't beat the prices!  I think they were just delivered to the front door....

Mr. Seventies is currently vacuuming the pool....as with the rain the other night.....we had high winds!  Lots of "stuff" landed in the pool.  He plans to finish staining the pool deck today as well.  I plan to visit the thrift store.....or that is my goal.  It's been a long time since I've checked it out...I'm hopeful today is the day!!

This & That

The weather continues to be amazing.....Mr. Seventies completed staining the small deck & back steps.  After replacing a few boards on the pool deck.....he plans to give it a refresh as well.  He intends to replace the steps to the back yard.....likely in the fall....

When daughter & family are joining us for supper after little one's tap dance recital over the weekend....son-in-law will assist Mr. Seventies setting out the wicker deck furniture & large umbrella.  Apparently, I purchased a new one at the end of last summer...

And.....I think my iron levels have bottomed out again.  Through our "virtual" medicine website, we are forced to use in place of a family doctor.....I secured a requisition for blood work & completed that mid week.  I have access to the results...but depend on Dr. Google to decipher some of it.  Supposedly, the physician who ordered the bloodwork is monitoring the results....we will see.  If I require iron infusions....that will be a whole other hurdle to jump...

BTW - healthcare in Canada is not "free"......we pay dearly for it through high taxes. If I had the choice to pay for medical care.....or deal with no family doctor or clinics to visit....I gladly would.  Some services, such as MRI & CAT scans.....can be obtained by paying out of pocket...

So there is that I'm dealing with.....if you've ever dealt with low iron or anemic.....the symptoms are brutal.  It's been 2 1/2 years since I had six iron infusions....(back when we had a family physician).....

My knee continues to heal....it does still pain & I'm having to continue with ice packs....

The pool water is clear....Mr. Seventies continues to vacuum & back wash it daily....our neighbour was in his pool yesterday!  The water was only 22 C degrees (approx. 72 F)....no where near warm enough for me!!   I'm thinking we will need to replace the pool liner next year.....which is scary..... pool companies here (only two of them) are booked months & months in advance......and I've been hearing horror stories from people who've had terrible service & installs......

I spent one evening cleaning & dusting my dish cabinet....things do get dusty inside....this piece I picked up at Home Sense prompted it...

Some sweet person sent this piece to us anonymously...... no return address or tag included...but very thoughtful & appreciated.   Liesel's loss affects us daily.....she is missed beyond words....

Daughter doesn't want her Dad or her husband to be responsible for a meal celebration on Father's Day....we'll be sharing a home cooked meal (prepared by me) on their day.....and of course...presents!  I've ordered a dozen of these yummy cupcakes as well...they are both football fans....

That's about everything that's  happening here.....I hope your week has gone well!  Have an awesome weekend!!

Til next time....

Garden Center & Gift Shop Browse

Summer is joining us here this week!  Sun & warm temps for the next five days - Mr. Seventies plans to stain the smaller deck & back steps today.....then the patio furniture can be set out! in a few days  I can't wait to sit out & enjoy some sun!

We picked up two Adirondack chairs for seating to enjoy the fire pit.  After Fiona not only was the previous fire pit destroyed....but the cover for it as well.  I finally was able to find a new cover for this one & toss the ratty one away.  A bag of marshmallows are idling in the cupboard....

The pool is opened as well.... it's official....summer has arrived!!

Since it was cooler last week & great weather for working outside....this is the second of two loads of gardening mulch Mr. Seventies has been busy spreading in the flower gardens.....the tulips are done blooming...(always sad to see them finish)....but lots of new colours & plants cropping up each day....

We ventured to the garden centre/gift shop/ice cream shop one sunny afternoon....it was wonderful to get out for a peruse around....

We sure had a case of sticker shock....this hydrangea....while beautiful....was selling for $60!!  The one Mr. Seventies purchased for me at a greenhouse in the city....was $42....quite a difference in price.  Even the price of annuals has gone up considerably....like everything else....

I took a few minutes to check out the gift shop....I had hoped to pick up a mat for in front of our kitchen sink....but the selection was not great this year.....this one is pretty but not what I'm looking for...

Lots of cute items....mostly what I consider knick knacks....had a chuckle when I saw this mug....

Cute planters...although these resin jackets won't last if used outside....they don't withstand water...

I adore anything fox....if this one had been a bit larger....I would have gotten it....but they were on the small side...

Cute mushrooms....I guess for plants on a windowsill maybe?   Or on a desk for small items....

Repurposed milk & cream cans.....tole painted....were all the rage back in the 80's!  I was big into tole painting back then.   I guess it's true.....what's old is new again....

Since Prince Edward Island is known for its potatoes.....these cookbooks are still very popular....(speaking of potatoes.....we have them up in our veggie garden).....grand daughter & her Grampie planted then a few weeks back.....

I thoroughly enjoyed our outing....and my knee is healing well.  My visit with my orthopaedic surgeon went well last week.....he is very pleased with my mobility.  I see him again in about six weeks. I discovered my replacement parts are not one size fits all!  Which explained his comment after surgery of me having "skinny knees"....(said no one to me ever).  I guess it makes sense....everyone's knees would not be the same size....

What hasn't been fun is weaning off pain meds....apparently the body can become dependent in as little as three days!  Good to know....not that it would have changed anything.  I needed them at the time & a visit to my doctor at the pain clinic helped me devise a plan to lesson the doses over a matter of 4-5 days.  I had a choice to do it that way.....or go cold turkey & they'd be out of my system in four days.   I know what that would have entailed so....

I chose to wean off.... the last three days have been med free, but not been easy or without withdrawals....I think I'm through the worst of it!!   When my knee begins to pain....I prop it up & use an ice pack.  This week marks the seventh week post op!!

That is about all the "news" from here....I hope you are enjoying wonderful weather where you are!  April & May here were overcast & rain.....and more rain....

Be sure to& join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphis Monday!
