Time For Wardrobe Additions

Since beginning my journey to wellness last June...I've gotten by with the "bare" necessities for clothing....as I continued losing weight, I've pick up only a few new pieces to wear along the way.  I spent an afternoon purging out the last of my clothes that no longer fit...now I am down to the bare bones so to speak. I headed out for a couple of days of shopping, trying on "new to me" sizes, and picking up a few items.

My first stop netted two summer sweaters....great to wear with a little cami underneath.....the emerald green is gorgeous.....as is the blue!  I couldn't decide which to get....so I got both!  That's my rule!  Easy decision when they are on sale.....

Since I needed under garments....I headed to la Vie En Rose...or as I call it, "the pyjama store"!  All winter/Christmas sleepwear was on clearance....I love this long lounge sweater....(I am a bit of a lounge lizard)...lots of winter left yet to get wear with this cozy piece & sleep pants!

As I was leaving la Vie en Rose....I spotted this adorable cardigan on display in another clothing store...and I had to have it!  Granny squares just spoke to me!!

These cargo joggers are not for everyone....but they are perfect for my casual style!  They didn't have my size in store....so I placed an order on line.  Since unsure of the size....I ordered two different sizes & will keep the pair that fit the best....

It pays to ask a sales clerk for help....this terry sweatshirt in a size Medium was not on the shelf.  The helpful gal went to the stock room & came back with it & it fits perfectly!!  Lightweight yet great for cool days.  I had purchased three sweatshirts back in the fall...and have worn them nearly to rags over the winter...they are looking a bit oversized & faded now....

A stop into a locally owned footwear store was a huge success!  Grabbed these  Clark sandals for summer....I live in slides & these are so comfortable!  I went down half a size....as they are leather & will stretch a bit...

Trying on clothes in stores....is exhausting!  I had no idea what sizes I  needed, so I had to try everything on....(except for the cargo joggers).    My least favourite thing to do...trying on clothes....

I've sent at least four large bags of plus size clothes to goodwill ...with another full bag ready to be dropped off.  All fall & winter pieces....I haven't brought out my summer items yet....but I'm certain not much will be wearable as I keep losing weight.   It's a good problem to have though!

My sweet friend dropped in for coffee the other day....and arrived with a beautiful bouquet of tulips!   Such a beautiful touch of spring....

It's wet & windy here today....rain & mild temperatures are helping rid us of snow.  We'll have more for certain....it's wonderful to have it lighter in the mornings and later in the evenings.  It amazes me when the world comes back to life in the spring...which is usually May into June here!

As we say good-bye to February....be sure & check back on Monday for an update on the give away!  I'm excited to say a little thank you to my readers...I'm so appreciative you share a bit of your time with me!!

We are considering a trip in the fall to Alberta.  We enjoyed our last vacation there....touring around Banff, Jasper, Canmore, Edmonton and all spots in between!  Oh those Rockie mountains....they are majestic.  If ever we were to leave Prince Edward Island....we would settle in Calgary.  (not in the cards....but a gal can dream).  Lots of time and planning to do ahead of time....fingers crossed...

Hope to catch you back here next month!!

New Area Rug & Give Away Update!!

Happy Monday!!  The new area rug arrived....it's taking me a few days to get used to it, as it's much larger....with different colours & pattern....

Those who have seen it..like it & have given great compliments....

I am not one to be indecisive or second guess myself....and  I welcome change....so I'm certain I will be happy with my decision...

It wasn't too difficult to put down..,...it is heavy (weighing about 140 pounds or so) & UPS brought it as far as the front entry.....we brought it up four steps,  wrangled it into the family room, unwrapped it and slid furniture back & forth....until we had it down...

It's wool....very thick & soft to walk on...and one thing I know about wool rugs....they are durable and don't show signs of wear.  I've read reviews where shedding can be an issue in the beginning...but I've never experienced shedding to any degree....

It's been cold here the last few days.....a rainfall warning on the weekend came in snow, just a fresh dusting.  I've been putting together a little Easter basket for grand baby here....and cards & gift cards for my girls in Nova Scotia....

I received an early birthday gift from daughter in Nova Scotia....

She & I had chuckled after seeing this mug....and she felt I needed to have it!  It just makes me smile....

And I mentioned in my last post....in honour of my March birthday month....I'm having a give away!  It will be open only to readers located in Canada and the US....(as shipping costs can be outrageous)!

The give away will begin Monday, March 4 and close Friday, March 15.   To enter...just leave a comment on a post during that time!  That's it!  I'll share photo of the give away on March 4 and announce the winner Monday, March 18, 2024.   Just a little thank you to hose who read & follow along on my blog....a little appreciation from me to you!!

Final Thrift Finds & Other Stuff

This is the last of my thrift finds from my thrifting adventure....I plan to check out the thrift stores once a month or so...they are crazy busy these days....although prices can be higher than retail!  I've heard & read about the over pricing at thrift stores....and here is no exception.

Take this covered dish....not sure it's food safe...but really?  I know it's pottery....but so over priced!!

And a swan...done in ceramics class...I guess they call it vintage?

Of course....little pottery trinket bowls are always a hit for me....priced between $5-$6 each....

I remember when these prints were popular in the 90's!  The regular pice on the back was $24.99 - now selling for half that price.   I'd have to repaint that frame though.....it is original to the piece....but not a fan of it.....

Yes, I did!  I purchased a bag of faux fruit...because it looked so real!  Right?  The Granny Smith apples I had...the rest was bagged up & priced at $5.....

I have been wanting a wooden silverware storage tray forever.... I've only found them for $25 & up! When I came across this for under $5...I grabbed it.  Wasn't even sure it would fit....but it did!  And no...none of my hodge podge of knives, forks & spoons match....some things just aren't that important to me...

I popped into Home Sense the same day....and even though I'm a die hard rabbit lover......these are a no....maybe for a nursery?  But otherwise.....a hard no....

Everything is Easter decor at Home Sense right now.....that's a lot of carrots, egg wreaths & bunnies!!
I was on the hunt for a new toy basket there for Liesel....and found exactly what I was looking for!!

Me thinks this dog has too many toys....it's over flowing already!

When you just have to get that one toy at the bottom....nothing else will do!!  Silly girl.....

And since daughter has a birthday in a couple of months....and wanting a green machine.....I picked one up for her.  I had to let her know I had it....so she wouldn't purchase it herself.  She's a lot like her Mama that way.  Plan to give it to her long before her birthday.....I'm hoping it works well for her....

And according to the tracking info on my new rug....it's due to arrive tomorrow before end of day!!  I cannot wait to receive it!!

It's going to be milder the next few days....we have rain in the forecast for the weekend! I plan to stop into Michael's today....see what's out on the shelves there....assuming more Easter decor....

Have an awesome weekend peeps!   Til next time.....

PS - in honour of my March birthday next month....I will be having a little give away!  More to come on that later.....so stay tuned!!

A Few February Finds

February is going by so quickly.....the quicker we get through winter...that suits me just fine.  No storms in the forecast for this week yet...but it's been cold & windy the last few days...

I ventured to Inspired Living (home decor) one afternoon last week...first thing to catch my eye were these realistic feeling & looking tulips.  They are gorgeous...but come with the hefty price tag of $23.99 for 10 stems!   I'm all for supporting local...but Amazon sells identical tulips - $20 for 30 stems...(I purchased them in white from Amazon last year).....and they do look & feel real.  It will be a few months before we see any tulips in our gardens....spring is just a day on the calendar here!!

This large tiered tray is gorgeous....I have a round one in the same finish...and don't feel really need this one...

I can see using these trays to carry snacks and drinks to the deck in the summer....and they are super sturdy...the small one is perfect size for my needs....

I'm crushing on these mirrors....I'm on the hunt for a new mirror in the main bath....and would love to go with this style....maybe in white...

A couple of beautiful vases....I have a thing for them & have to restrain myself...you can only have so many, right?

As I was browsing around....a substantial delivery arrived at the store....new goodies arrived....another venture for another day....

We spent a couple of days doing some puttering around the house....even though it was chilly outside...the sun was strong & it felt like a good time to strip bedding, wash & sanitize bed pillows and our queen mattress...

To sanitize....I use my hand held steamer.  It's not my favourite tool...it tends to be heavy & a bit bulky...but it does the job.  I'm not a fan of ironing our huge bedskirt...once it was washed & dried...I laid in on the box spring....and steamed it to a wrinkle free finish.

I broke one of my rules about purchasing soft home goods second hand.  I was needing feather cushion inserts...and found a set on FB market place for $20.  Too good a price to pass up!  As soon as I picked them up, I removed the zippered covers (tossed them out) & left them tied up in a recycle bag on the deck for a couple of days.

I brought them inside...washed & dried them twice in hot water & two hours in the dryer!   Since the sun was out....I laid them on a plastic sheet on the deck...and flip them throughout the day.

Then I steam cleaned them!  They were in beautiful condition when I purchased them....but now are sparkling cleaned & sanitary.  Overkill on the cleaning perhaps....but better to be safe than sorry.  And it's not a habit I would get in to....

I picked this steamer up a few years ago at Wal Mart - it's easier to use on a flat surface...such as a mattress.  Once steamed...the afternoon sun beaming in does the rest....

And remember these cord holders from Amazon?   They come six in a pack....

Where have they been all my life?  Such an easy fix to wind cords around & store out of the way!  I stuck one on my Kitchen Aid, another on the Keurig....and gave a couple to daughter to use on her kitchen appliances as well....

We rolled up the family room carpet...and delivered it to daughter...it looks amazing in her family room.  She is purchasing a Little Green Machine carpet cleaner...and plans to freshen it up.  We had planned to do so...but she is wanting to test her cleaner when it arrives...so the rug was given a thorough vacuuming and loaded into our SUV...

So, now we live with a naked family room floor!  And I don't like it one little bit....when the new one arrives, (hopefully late next week)....it will be laid down!  We can remove & roll it up while the ceilings are being done....but in the meantime it will be on the floor....

I plan to start Bounce class again this week....instead of moving up to the next level...on the advice of the instructor, I'm doing another four weeks of Learn To Bounce.  I'm not confident enough in the workout boots to let go of a chair I keep in front of me at class....I need a few additional classes to build up my confidence.  I'm attending class twice a week instead of one....

That is all the news from my little part of the world!  Please join me  later today with Susan at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphis Monday.

As well as a couple of link parties on Tuesday....https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire Me Tuesday and https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talk About it Tuesdays!

Lyndsey, over at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ is taking a much needed break this week...join me over there next Tuesday!!

As always, thank you so much for spending a bit of your time with me...I so appreciate it.  Today is a provincial holiday here (Islander Day)... a family day of sorts....if you are fortunate enough to spend time with your loved ones.....enjoy your day!!

Til next time....

Road Trip Thrifting

As promised, during out short road trip last week...I was able to browse a couple of junk/thrift stores.  One shop has moved location...and I'm not a fan of its current spot or building.  It's located along a highway...and is out of place in a strip mall type of setting...with other un-related stores.  And much smaller- two cramped rooms...but it is what it is....

A fire king collector would have snapped this bowl up....there was a mug there as well...

I can't remember the name of this pattern...I think it's from Johnson Brothers...but don't hold me to that...I know I've seen it before....

It was difficult to get photos...as it only took a few shoppers in the crowded rooms to make it a chore...so I didn't get many....the pitcher and bowl are circa 1970's or 80's....is that considered vintage now?  Popular in ceramic classes....

A couple of nice cabinets...great as is or for a re-do.  Apparently a large shipment of items was unloaded the day after my visit....

This one was my favourite....

Next I hit up the local Salvation Army thrift store...it was busy as well...my heart skipped when I saw this bowl on a shelf across the store.   I thought it was.    It isn't....but a.nice piece of yellow ware though....

This one had no markings....have no idea of this sponge ware bowl - it's age or origins....

This reminded me....of me...shopping bags, handbag, cell phone....looks familiar...

This little nugget...for a whopping $3 came home with me....

It looks right at home in my cabinet....

I wish I had purchased this....the texture was amazing....and I really like the colour...very rough & crazed....

And look what I found!  Another tart warmer...complete with working bulb...and old wax...it takes only a minute to pop that out....

Once I gave it a good cleaning...and removed the wax....it's as good as new....a bargain at $5.....

And this jug...marked Ikea on the bottom...I considered picking it up....but decided to leave it for someone else to enjoy...should I have gotten it?

I scored a new food bowl for Liesel for $3!  These are $15-$20 at the pet supply store....

And the Christmas room!!  I didn't even venture into that abyss....

And with that...I wrapped up my thrifting venture!  We picked up a pizza from the best pizza place on the planet-in my opinion.  We enjoy one every time we visit Summerside....Mr. Seventies & Liesel waited in the SUV....

As I was reading the menu.....a crowd of teenage boys from a nearby junior high came in - to order & pick up a lunch special!  There were about 10 of them - one sweet lad asked if I had ordered...when I advised him I hadn't...but he & his friends could go first....he insisted they stand aside & let me order first....as they had an hour for lunch!!

I thanked them profusely....kudos to their parents for raising such amazing young men!!

In other news....I ordered this wooden bowl online.....perfect for holding a bit of fruit....

A tic tok video popped up in my feed.- an Amazon haul...and I was gobsmacked!  Did anyone know these even existed?  I sure didn't...but I couldn't order a set fast enough!!  I'll share with daughter since there is six in a package....an ingenius method to keep appliance cords out of the way!!  Yes please....

It's cold & windy today....it snowed a bit over night.  Enough to cause drifting snow....the schools are on a one hour delay.  We are getting into the heart of winter....a recent storm missed us....this time.

It's also a long weekend...Monday is Islander Day....a provincial holiday.  Wishing you all a great weekend....and thanks so much for dropping by....

Til next time....
