Thrifting Part 2

January is winding down...and can you believe we haven't had one major snow storm yet?  I likely just jinxed that....but it's hard to believe!   Still able to go boot-less!  We've had a few days of cold temps and flurries...most years we've had two or three snow storms by now.  I'm not complaining...

I split my thrifting post up as I didn't want it to be too long....remember this from my previous post?   The platter is listed on FB Marketplace....for $25.   I knew it was too good a find for someone to pass up...

Nothing I love more than pottery!  I'd say someone was clearing out their pieces as most of these finds had the same initial carved into the bottom...the one in the back on the right...I bought that!  It has a rough bumpy texture on the exterior...which I love.  I have it just sitting on the coffee table...

And the piece in the front on the right....the minute I saw it I knew what I could use it for....

Great for storing pot scrubbers...and set under the kitchen sink!

I'm crushing on this piece....perfect for holding a small candle!  It was $10 though...a little steep for a thrift store....in my opinion... so I left it.  How about you?  Do you love pottery too?

If this had been any colour but red...I would have snatched it up!  Can be used for so many different things....cupcakes come to mind!  Or used to elevate anything....candles....hand/dish soap dispensers...it was about 6" round....

These candle holders in Home Sense are ridiculously priced...a good find at the thrift store....the set of five was under $10!

Remember when these were a thing?  I sure do...back in the 80's I used to drool over them!  Nothing like them was available here at the time...maybe a good thing?   Kinda fugly now...

I could not pass on this pitcher....says Milk on both sides...and under $5!!

It has a home it in my cabinet....fits in perfect!!

I may have to make it a weekly outing...checking out the thrift stores!  Tuesdays is discount day...may have to check it out again soon!  A day trip to Summerside may be required in the future to check out a couple of my favourite haunts there too!

In the meantime.....Mr. Seventies has taken on a painting project....freshening up the headboard in the main bath.  He went to pick up the paint...but it won't be in until some time this week!  Now any hardware store can match the paint on the moulding...but he's adamant to purchase the exact same paint.  So until then everything got a good wipe down....and taped off....

An update on Liesel...a vet visit was in order last week...as she continues to have an on-going issue with the "barfies" - I've been keeping track of the occurrences...and felt we needed a solution.  She was given an injection to settle her tummy & blood drawn for analysis and medication prescribed in the event she has an acid issue.  We should hear in the next couple of days the results of the blood work.
There have been no incidences of barfing for the past few days....but that was happening without the medication so I am not about to declare a victory yet...

We packed Liesel in the car one beautiful, sunny day & did a road trip around the North shore!  Ended up in Kensington....a small, bustling community which has the most amazing cafe & bakery!   We did pick up a few treats to have on hand....cream cheese iced cinnamon buns are to die for!  Worth the trip!

Lastly...I "graduated" from the four week Bounce class!  I do much better if my knee is wrapped...still need my security chair close by in class though!  On going classes continue & I'll be starting up again....this time on Saturday mornings instead of an evening class.  Going to give it another four week run!

A shout out to some amazing bloggers I will be joining this week...Between Naps on the Porch https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphis Monday!

And tomorrow with Marty at https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire Me Tuesday....and again with Lyndsey at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for Happy Hearts & Homes....

As always, thank you for spending a bit of your time with me today!  I so appreciate your visits.....and until next time....

My Week So Far

It's been a bit on the cold side here for most of the week...and windy.  With that kind of weather...I don't venture too far from the confines of a warm home.....

My friend & I got together to browse of a couple of home decor stores....with a lunch break...one store was packed with shoppers, so I didn't get any photos....but happened to take a few at another...I'm obsessed with this industrial towel rack....it certainly is sturdy....

It seems I come across signs for laundry rooms....this one is lightweight metal.  I'm still holding out for a BOGO sale at Michaels for the sign I really want....

Just look at this basket/coffee table!!  I'm crushing on it big time.....perfect storage for throws and cushions!  It is huge though....wouldn't it look awesome at the end of a bed?   Unfortunately, in this seventies split....the bedrooms are all very small...but I can dream.....and those lamps!!

Anyone else love these lamps besides me?  I've seen DIY'ers wrap twine around lamps themselves...that would take more patience than I possess.....

An abundance of cushions...sadly these are not down....I seem to have an aversion to poly filled cushions.  Down or feather cushions are so much softer...and last much longer....and are fully washable.  With covers that zip off!   But to each her own, right?    I do love the colour combo here though...the mustard gold with the terra cotta...and the rough texture of the black, rough stone lamps....

I almost picked up this vase.....it's the same style as my lamps in the family room...however it had some Italian wording on one side....and I prefer it on the side with nothing on it....

My big splurge of the day...a couple of wooden hearts.  Don't ask why I'm attracted to them....anything wood I'm drawn to.  My plan was to tie them up with twine...but other than attach my thumbs together (even with Mr. Seventies help)....that was a no go.  They are heart shape.....and no matter how I attempted to tied them....the twine slid off.   So...this is how they sit....if anyone has any ideas...please share....

I see bunches of tulips in the stores...until they priced them out of range...I used to get bouquets for a touch of spring....(which is still a long way off).   I set out my faux tulips....(I think I ordered them on Amazon)....they look & feel real.  We are weeks & weeks away from seeing any pop up in our gardens....so these will have to do...

Lastly....I completed the four week intro into Bounce exercise!  I'm still not great at it...I likened it to walking on a boat....or first time on ice skates!   Now...you don't fall....but the feeling seems to be a challenge for me to overcome.  I think I will get there....even on the treadmill....I need one finger touching a handle!

I signed up for another four week class - this time on Saturday morning....it's a struggle to get out when it's dark & cold in the evenings.  I'm one of those dreaded morning people....so morning class suits me better.   I also wore a wrap around the knee that gives me trouble...and it really helped...

Today, Liesel has a vet appointment.  The barfies...as I like to call them...continue.  Keeping track of when it occurs has given me cause for concern.. it's time to hopefully come to a resolution.  I don't know if she has an acid tummy...or what is the issue....but some weeks it happens 2-3 times.    She will be a very unhappy camper - not her favourite place....Mr. Seventies will be on hand to make a swift exit with her to the car afterwards.

Hoping everyone has a great weekend & it's nicer weather where you are!  Til next time....

The Trick To Thrifting

I just  recently realized there is a trick some use when thrift shopping!  I'm more the mosey around the store....browing without any real goal or thoughts in mind to what I'm looking for....or not looking for.  I decided to visit a couple of thrift shops with the goal in mind of how to re-use or repurpose items in my home...and attempt to do it a bit more regularly.....

Sometimes with so much on the shelves....it becomes a blur & I end up leaving empty handed.  This latest visit....I divided (in my mind) each section of shelving.....only looking at a small area of shelves at a time.  It's kind of cool what actually catches your eye....as opposed to glazing over it all!

Thrifting is not meant to be fast paced..... I understand now why it can take a hour or more to really check everything out!  It takes a creative mind to look at an item & know how it can be used in your space...not sure I'm there yet....

As a rule....I don't check out clothing...it's still a bit overwhelming...I think having a specific item  or items you are searching for might work best for me.  My next thrift outing....I'll maybe peruse a couple of aisles of t-shirts...since I need them for working out....

In the meantime....I did find a few things I can repurpose or use as is....this leaf I picked up I'm going to spray paint off white & use in the fall...

This piece is gorgeous....not sure if it's $10 gorgeous....but wow!!  I didn't get it...I drew a blank on where to use it... doesn't really have a place in my home....but maybe styled on a sideboard or coffee table....

I know there are some thrifters who purchase to resell on Ebay, FB Marketplace or Etsy....but that requires a lot more diligence & patience than this old girl possesses...but for those who do...I tip my winter toque to you...

If this had it been a size up it would have been in my cart....the sticker from Stokes was still on the back...originally sold for $9.99 available for $3.00.     I would actually use this for washed berries....set in the refrigerator...however it wouldn't hold a quart so I passed...

I regret not grabbing this little colander....perfect size to wash those small food items...berries....

What was glaringly obvious though....is the price increases in thrift stores!   Most get their items free...I realize there is overhead  (one thrift store has gone fully self checkout, much to my delight)....and another is run by volunteers.....but they are selling used items!   Remember the cookie jar I saw on a previous outing - $99.99!

This hand painted sign caught my eye....I almost got it for the laundry room...but it was a but more rustic than I was looking for....it would have worked all the same....price was not to my liking....

These gorgeous pieces...I know there are collectors of this stoneware pattern....just not me.  I've always loved this pattern....and the prices were very reasonable....no chips or signs of wear...

I found this adorable unicorn basket & picked it up for our little unicorn....$3.99.....still bearing the original price tag of $12.99....

And look what I came across in another thrift store....for double the price....and looking a bit worn...

My best score....was this tart warmer...complete with bulb for $6.00!  The bulb alone is $5.00 and it's already in use on my counter.  You know I love me a tart warmer!!

I came across this shelf...whoever painted it did wonderful work.  I see tole painting coming back around...some were obsessed with it here!  I tried my hand at it...being my own worst critic & it requires a bit of skill & patience...neither of which I'm overly blessed with....

I'm kicking myself for not picking up the pitcher on the left!  Or both of them for that matter....I may just have to revisit the store & see if either are still available....both were in perfect condition!  I use pitchers in the summer months for cold drinks...some I prefer have covers.  These were priced at $3.00 and $4.00.....

After thrifting I picked up this adorable unicorn bedding set at Home Sense for grand baby's bed .....she will have magical dreams....

I decided to order this piece from Amazon....it is due to arrive tomorrow!  It looks so comfy & the reviews were great...it comes in a variety of colours...I chose the one shown here....

The weather is still cold here....and a few days of snowy conditions.  Not major storms yet...very happy to report!  We had an enjoyable visit and meal of home made baked beans with Mac & cheese with daughter and family....Grampie & grand baby did some dobber painting....(activity new to us...).....

We've chosen a contractor to strip the popcorn ceilings, repair any damaged gyproc & paint them....so happy to have that lined up for late April-early May!  Been doing my happy dance....cannot wait to get this project underway....and completed....

As always please join me at the following link parties....https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday.

And again tomorrow with Marty at https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire me Tuesday and Lyndsey over at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for her link party Happy Hearts & Home......

Out & About

While the weather has turned cold & windy here...I was out ..and popped into Home Sense & Michaels....

Upon switching from her crib to a "big girl bed".....I came across this adorable set at Home Sense...and picked it up for our little unicorn...

It comes with comforter, two shams, pretty pink throw & unicorn cushion....simply adorable...

Nothing else caught my eye...so I swung by Michaels...Easter and Valentine pieces up the wazoo...I did find a few things I liked.  This laundry room sign for example...and although I have gift cards....I'll wait until they come on BOGO sale....it's a generous size...

And I do like this one as well....who is going to take the time to read it all....especially when there are spray stain removal products available....

These mini books are adorable...would look great in any display...

I'm crushing on these hanging baskets...would look awesome filled with pretty flowers & hung on an exterior door....mine has nothing hung on it...I usually don't put anything during the windy, snowy winter months....so hurry up spring....

I chuckled when I saw this kitchen towel......

This picnic basket is too cute...and would look gorgeous in a table display....and can also be used for a picnic!

This is my picnic basket....I consider it a "family heirloom!  It's been around since I was a child...I came across it in my Dad's little storage building many years ago....set up in the rafters.  He didn't know where it had come from...it had been around for that long.  Since my Mom has passed by this time...its origins are unknown to me....

My Dad gifted it to me...I gave it a gentle cleaning before applying a fresh coat of stain & a co-worker at that time (remember when tole painting was a thing?)....painted the top.   My family name had been printed on the top in red marker....in case there was any doubt at picnics who the basket belonged to.  I sanded that off....and it looks the same now as it did 35+ years ago when it received a make over....

I've been wanting these pjs from LL Bean (Canada) since weeks before Christmas...however the $127 price tag was a deterrent!  (plus taxes).  I've been watching them...and they finally came down to less than half price...so I ordered them!  I love that most of their women's clothing comes in tall sizes....the first thing to happen upon washing is leg shrinkage!  Ordering tall sizes...gives me the right length afterwards!

Next trip the mainland....I'm going to check out their location!  I wasn't aware until recently they have a store close by!!

I've also had my eye on these flannel lined boyfriend jeans...on sale less than half price as well...so I added them to my shopping basket.  Since I'm losing weight....I'm uncertain about sizes....but if they are a bit snug...they will fit me eventually....fingers crossed...

Liesel is still recuperating... able to put weight on her paw...so much so that it's hard to keep her from racing & stumbling!  She was in such a hurry to get her kong in her bed last night....she tripped a bit...and could have easily hurt herself again.  Hopefully after today....she can get back to our normal routine....with the cold temps & wind....she is curled up in front of the fire anyways....

Bounce class tonight....looking forward to it!  I have errands to run today...plan to bundle up for those!  We have Sunday dinner plans with daughter & family....home made beans has been requested...so I'll take a pot of those with us.  Great cold weather comfort food...and so good!

Have an awesome weekend & until next time....

Liesel - Sprained Front Paw

While playing with her Dad (Mr. Seventies)...Liesel stumbled & either over-reached her front paw or knuckled it over.....and within an instant she was holding her paw up & crying!

We were quick to action.....setting up the x-pen for her to recuperate & administered pain medication...this was last evening....medicated and snoozing away......

We moved the x-pen into the bedroom - she usually sleeps in her crate in the room with us....but when she is sore or hurting....she sleeps in the x-pen.

This morning...she is putting a bit of weight on the paw....but we're still keeping her in the x-pen on the down-low & she is comfortable in front of a warm fire.    And with half dose of pain medication.  She is eating & drinking....and Mr. Seventies gets her out for potty breaks.

Hopefully, tomorrow we will continue to see improvement.  We're pretty certain it is not as arthritis  flare up...as we both witnessed her over extended her paw.  She loves to play tug with her toys....and tends to play rough....and she uses her front legs to hang onto her toy.  When she does this....we don't attempt to pull it from her....for fear of hurting her legs.  But this was her....just playing rough...and tripping over her own paw or toy....doing what dogs do.....

In other news....we have one quote in for the covering floors & furniture that we cannot move & removal, repair & painting of the ceilings!  And it's not crazily over priced!  Have another guy coming....need to make sure he does everything as well.

It's blustery & cool here today...with just a few patches of snow around.  Still able to wear sneakers...which is awesome!  No heavy winter boots!

Til next time...healing wishes for our little wirehair greatly appreciated!

My Amazon Want It List!!

I'm dreaming of hot summer days....hanging out on the deck & in the pool!  I go through this every winter...longing for it to be over.  And it hasn't been a harsh winter here yet!  We've had mostly wind..,and more wind with rain.  Which is easy to shovel I hear.

I was checking out summer vibes on Amazon and here are my must have piks...I'm crushing on these minimalist sneakers!  No sock required....just slip 'em on and go!  Gotta have them...

I have a difficult time finding sandals that are comfortable...and am in need of new ones this year.  They must be leather...these ones might just be the ones...they look so comfy and easy to slip on...

I live in t-shirt dresses when relaxing during the summer months!  I usually have them in a variety of colours....and they fill a variety of uses!  Great for sleep shirts!  Mine are not only too big...but getting a bit "holy" if you know what I mean....I'll be ordering a few new ones in some bright, summer shades!

And I'm ordering a couple of these in different colours!  Too awesome for those hot days & a great coverup...

And I'm obsessed with this jumpsuit!  Wearable anywhere!  Definitely going to have a couple of these in my summer plans...slip a little t-shirt underneath...perfection!

These are not so much geared towards summer...but since they come in a pack of four and I'm needing leggings for exercise class....these will be great in a variety of colours....

We're about to get on the air fryer bandwagon!  Mr. Seventies asked what I'm wanting for my upcoming birthday....and I think it's time to test the waters so to speak with an air fryer!  Our daughter & hubby received this one for Christmas....and are using it almost daily!

The reviews on the Ninja brand are excellent & I like that it has two baskets for cooking more than one thing..this is the exact one daughter received....

And for easy clean up...I think the liners are a must have!  Our son-in-law says it makes clean up much easier too!

Even a cookbook for beginners!  Although I'm sure there are loads of recipes and ideas on line....it would be great to have them all in one read.  Do you know how many cookbooks I have?  Zero.

How about you?  Do you have an air fryer?  Until daughter received one...I'd not been interested in owning one.  But I've been hearing wonderful things about them...and food prepared in them.  So...why not?

And where has this little nugget been hiding?  It's for use cleaning keyboards, screens and cell phones!  Yes please!  Another item on my want list....

How about you?  Are you longing for warm, summer breezes?  Or maybe you are someone who enjoys vacations to warmer destinations during the long winters.

I am not one of those people.  I am the worst traveller...Mr. Seventies can attest to it.  I hate flying...airports in general!  Driving for days on end to reach a warmer climate...no thank you.  With my bum knee....I'd be such a fun sponge anyways.

Those are just a few things that have caught my eye while longing for winter to be over!  All have high reviews...which I always check out first.  Please join me later today at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for  Metamorphosis Monday.

And tomorrow over at https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire Me Tuesday and Life with  Lyndsey at for https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/category/happy-hearts-homes/

Thanks so much for sharing your time with me today!  Til next time...
