Family Room Refresh

The family room is done...(not sure yet about these lamps in this room...) and still have a bit of the cow thing going on.  I worked in the dairy industry for a number of years...my office was cow heaven!!

We shuffled things around a bit....and it works...and these are a couple of my favourite pieces...

And my tool box Mr. Seventies sanded and re-finished...found a purpose...the flickering candles in the lantern...are on a timer...love when they come on in the evenings....

I really love how this area turned out....we are able to open the shutters to allow light and sun flood in...

One piece of decor I did pick up for the coffee table...this cute mason jar piece.  I can't wait to fill them with flowers from our gardens! (I check daily to see what is up)...

We're down to having the pellet stove running early mornings and evenings....be happy when it's warm enough to shut it off for the season!

The light fixture I shared in my last post arrived (for the back entry)  is not suitable.  To hang it so it looks nice...the back door will strike it when being opened and closed.  We tried shortening it...but it looked really weird.  Sadly, it was returned.  We will have to go with a more flush mount...as opposed to a hanging fixture...

And I scored another Gripstand bowl!!  Number 10 in my collection!!

I have worshipped this enormous canvas painting for years!!  And you will never guess where it hangs! (not my home.....I wish)...

It is displayed in a hallway at our local hospital!!  I admire it every time I am there.  I presumed it was painted by a local artist...there must be a signature or small plaque on the back....I was unable to find it...without looking oddly suspicious...lol!   I wish I knew more about it.....the story behind it,  the artist, and who likely donated it....

It's sunny & going to be a beautiful day here.  Mr. Seventies is busy detailing the SUV...it sorely needs it.  He is one happy camper to be finished painting!  Now if we could get more than the odd day of sun...we could get some outside cleaning and raking done.

Today is our daughter's birthday!  We are celebrating this weekend...Benson, our little doxie grand dog is battling pancreatitis...please keep him in your prayers.  He has seen his veterinarian twice in the last few days...and is taking medications.  No appetite still today.  :(

Thanks for stopping by & take care!!

And....We Are Done

Everything is installed, painted and cleaned!  A lot of work...but a great feeling to finish.  I still have a lot of tweaking to do...but am getting there.  It is so much easier to clean....when you don't have a lot of "stuff" getting in the way!

The front entry...open & no clutter.  The lighter wall colour really lightens up such a tight area...

The guest bedroom was easiest to put back together....small room...so not much work required....

The beautiful moulding and door trim...love how they look. If you remember, this room was previously painted lavender...the olive green is very soothing...

I haven't pulled the master bedroom completely together...but this is a sneak peek...the wall colour, previously a dark grey...is now a beautiful, soft green...lighting and computer monitors make a huge impact on colours...

Mr. Seventies is more than happy to retire the paint brushes and rollers for now.  Since we will be tackling the back entry next...I ordered a new light fixture....as in the front entry...the ceilings are very high.  I haven't looked for a paint colour yet....but it will be along the same neutral colours...and new door casings and base mouldings installed as well...

The weather was gorgeous on the weekend...we took some much needed down time and hung out on the deck.  Liesel worked on her tan...sometime this week...the cedar from Christmas will get planted ....

And we enjoyed the first fire pit of the season!  A great opportunity to burn the old wood casings and mouldings...along with broken branches and yard debris from winter...one of many fires and roasted marshmallow happenings to come .....

Mother Nature is once again giving us another wet & rainy week...rain in the forecast for most days.  Great for the city water supplies and private wells...just putting a positive spin on it.  We hope to turn our attention to the outside once the weather co-operates...always raking and cleaning to be done after the winter months.

Hope you have an awesome day & stay safe where ever you are!

Almost There....

I can't believe...looking back it was February 25 when we started working on the house.  And to think it all started with slipcovers!  (which I am not missing btw...life has become more stress free not having to continually worry about keeping them pristine).

We are so close to the finish line...only two doors each requiring one final coat of paint...and we are done.  Done for now.  Mr. Seventies wants the tackle the back entry at some point, we have new base mouldings for it...and it will be painted...but we (he) needs a bit of a break.  Every room on this level has been painted...along with all the window casings, door casings, base mouldings and all the interior doors.  And six new light fixtures installed!

Love, love, love how the doors turned out!  Each door was sanded...and given a fresh look...sneak peek..and that is a new brown-ish area rug in my vanity room...it's an 8 x 10 size and covers most of the floor...

I haven't purchased much in the line of home decor...as we have purged and purged...and purged some more.  But I found a sweet table runner (Amazon)....and well....I still have my obsession with cows...

And I still need a couple of small things to tweak areas here and there...and I ordered this piece...if the flowers are not decent quality...I will replace them...

It will be a little longer until I can do a home tour...and you will notice items I did keep...may now be in a different spot.   But all in all...it will be great to have things done (if we are ever done).   We've done so much cleaning as well...cabinets, floors and since we had the paint....Mr. Seventies gave the main bath a refresh as well.

Today is not much like spring here...windy...possibly a few flurries.  Every day there are new flowers poking through in the gardens...and shrubs & trees are beginning to bud.  The pool is a beautiful (sarcasm) murky green...but about 3/4 full of melted snow and ice.  In a few weeks...we will be opening it for the swim season.

Have an awesome weekend...and stay safe.

Progress So Far

It's been a very productive few days...all the door casings and base mouldings have been installed, caulked & nail holes filled & painted.  The bedrooms were the last rooms that needed to be done.

We spent the weekend cleaning...steam cleaning floors (great for sanitizing)...daughter picked up a load of decor stash she wanted...and the trunk of the SUV is full for stuff to be dropped off at the Mission store.  It was a perfect time...when clothes closets were empty...to purge and organize clothes more efficiently.  I admit...I have a lot of clothes...keep that between us.

This week...Mr. Seventies plans to finish the interior doors...this is their current stage...

Sorry for the shadows, it was late in the afternoon when the photos were taken....

With a little bit of sanding...and a few fresh coats of paint...I'm loving how they are going to look!  The bedroom closet doors we left plain...they are getting freshened up as well...so the colours (window frames, casings and mouldings) will all be consistent in colour.

Mr. Seventies also gave the bathroom a fresh coat of paint...same colour....we had paint left over...and decided to use it up.

We removed the headboard from our bed...I've not been a fan of it really since we purchased it.  I was going to send it to the Mission Store...when Mr. Seventies suggested I put it on FB Marketplace.  Within five minutes of posting it...it sold & was picked up within the hour.  Glad he suggested it!  Sometimes it's not worth the hassle of trying to sell stuff...and sometimes it works out.  I know everyone says you need a headboard...but I'm not in a hurry to replace it.

And......the accent chair arrived!  Peeps...I am over the moon in love with this chair!  I was a tad nervous ordering a piece of furniture from Amazon...but it is perfect!  Really lovely quality at an exceptional price!  Isn't she pretty?

Our daughter's birthday is coming up later in the month...and since she will be returning to work in a couple of months...her wardrobe was lacking in suitable work attire.  The leggings and Mom t-shirts will be served better on weekends.  As a birthday gift she picked out numerous outfits & foot wear...and we finished off with a lunch at our favourite restaurant.  Thoroughly enjoyable outing...the weather couldn't have been more miserable...rain & snow mix...but we didn't let that dampen our moods!

I had mentioned previously the plan to re-paint my makeup vanity...white is rather boring.  I chose the colour Pink Salmon by Behr.  Wowsers....what a fun colour!

So that's the progress so far.  It is going to take a bit of time to get everything put together...but it will be nice to have it done before the nice weather hits...and we can focus our attention on the outside areas...the decks and steps will need fresh coats of stain.  Snow and shovels are hard on decks...and show their wear and tear.  The pool water is unfrozen...we usually get it operational about mid May...depending on the weather each year.  I'm hoping for another repeat of last summer's weather...hot & dry!

Mr. Seventies ordered his garden seeds early and online this year...as with Covid seeds can be in short supply.  His will ship when it gets closer to planting time.  He never plants before June...if the ground is still wet & cold...nothing will grow.  And we always have an abundant garden...so his planting schedule works.

Hope you have an awesome day & thanks so much for stopping by.  Feel free to leave a comment...would love to hear from you.

New Casings & Base Mouldings Are Painted

And tentatively will be installed tomorrow or Friday....depending on the weather (as the saw needs to be set up & used outside).   Once installed, Mr. Seventies will caulk where necessary & paint & fill the nail holes.

There is about 40 feet of this moulding in the workshop... to add a bit of detail to the main interior doors...(not the closet door)...but all doors will receive fresh paint to match the base mouldings and window frames.  Paul was checking on the status on of the remaining amount required...either what they have in stock or needs to be ordered.

As a reminder...we are doing something like this.  We're not going to change out our current pewter knobs and hinges...as they are fairly new....

A small piece of the trim...we need about 80 ft....I love that it has such pretty detail...

Mr. Seventies plans to take a couple of the doors to the workshop for sanding...and installing the trim...

Not sure if you can see in the photo, we measured out placement for the mouldings...this is a rough idea...
we also wrote the measurements down on paper....

I was searching for something in the storage room...and came across my picnic basket.  It had been in my family for as long as I can remember...many years ago I was visiting my Dad and we were in his small storage shed working on a project...when I looked overhead...and saw the basket.  On the top, in red marker was our family name...my Dad did not know the origins of the basket...where it came from or how long it had been around.  This was back in the early 90's...I brought it home...cleaned & restained it.

Remember tole painting was all the rage back then?  A co-worker painted the top...I gave her cart blanche to paint whatever she wanted on the cover....

I have wonderful memories of going on picnics as a child & my Mom packing the basket full of delicious goodies and treats....we have used it over the years as well...

Definitely going to pack it up & do some short roads trips around the Island this summer...and enjoy a picnic or two!

Update on the new chair...delivery is set for Monday!  I'm hoping it's perfect!

It's been cold and very windy here the last few days...not very spring like.  Hoping it turns around in the next couple of days!

Have an awesome day!!

Monday Happenings

Great news!  The door casings are ready for pick up...Mr. Seventies will hopefully retrieve them and the base mouldings & take them to the shop for painting (the are sold primed) either today or tomorrow. All the interior window frames have been repaired (if needed), sanded & given three coats of paint. & shutters re-installed.  Mr. Seventies completed the main bath window over the weekend.

I picked up this adorable planter (on the ledge) at Home Sense...too cute with the eyewear...I hope you can see it in this photo...

As well...he hung our dachshund canvas in the front entry.  This canvas was done a few years back by a local artist I met at one of our dachshund rescue events.  She was selling it for $250...and oh I wanted it so badly.  But could not justify spending that kind of money....so I put it out of my mind.

Fast forward a few months...and I discovered the painting on Kijiji for $25!!  The artist was cleaning out her stock...at rock bottom prices!  And the rest of the story is pretty clear...it was meant to be mine.

The second chair is tracking for delivery on April 21st!  Fingers crossed it arrives on date...or earlier..with no issues!  I've never ordered a piece of furniture on Amazon...so we shall see how it goes.  The reviews were great...so I'm hopeful.

I added my new dinnerware in my cabinet...I'm sure my taste is not for everybody...but I'm okay with that. I do me quite well.  And pay no attention to all the You Tube or tv "designers" out there...fun to watch...but that is about it.

This is how things are kind of looking currently....one chair at least...

Another angle...

I have numerous decor items that I won't be using...daughter who lives close by is going to go through the stash & anything that she can use in her home...is hers.  Our bubble to the other Maritime provinces is still closed...so unable to visit with my other daughter in Nova Scotia or her visit here.  Hopefully soon though.

It's cool here today...with a stiff breeze.  Spring has sort of sprung...the ice is melted in the pool...so things are looking up!

Hope you have an awesome day & stay safe!

Friday Catch Up

This week has somehow flown by...it's Friday already!  Mr. Seventies has been busy patching, sanding & painting!  He has finished all the window frames...with the exception of the main bath.  He has gone room by room...removing the shutters & hardware...repairing any scrapes and applying three coats of paint to the frames (and cleaning windows at the same time).  We are replacing the magnetic hardware used for the shutters...and needed to order more.  They take about a week to come in...and the gentleman at the window covering store decided to order them in to have on stock.  Smart idea buddy....

The guest bedroom has been painted as well...and I'm loving the soothing olive green colour...and the duvet cover set is beautiful quality...(the shutters have not been re-installed...waiting on the magnet closures)..and door casings and base mouldings have yet to be completed.  We are still waiting for the casings to come in...they are milled here....but lumber is in short supply.

The completed rooms are the kitchen, family room, hallway and front entry...and the new ceiling fixtures for the bedrooms are installed. No more "boob" lights!!  And the new family room chair has been shipped...but delivery is not expected until mid May.  I don't take much stock in that...I've been notified with long arrival dates for other items...and the item is received the next day!  It will be here when it gets here...

I purchased lamps for the family room as well...love the beautiful colours in them...all found in the area rug...

The crocus are blooming...adding a nice pop of colour outside...our snow is pretty much gone...

I read a local article the other day advising that pool installations for the 2021 season...are full.  They are taking installation orders for 2022!  With people staying home...they are deciding to enjoy their back yards and have a pool installed.  As well...they warned pool chemicals and supplies are in short supply.

I did an online order at a local store for chlorine, algicide and chlorine pucks...we have some on hand...but don't want to run out mid season...we have plenty on hand now.

Going to be a beautiful, warm sunny day...followed by days of cloudy weather and rain...so going to get out & enjoy this weather while we can!  Liesel & I have been enjoying walks daily...

Have a great weekend where ever you are!!

Family Room Sneak Peek

Happy Belated Easter!!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend...the weather sure didn't feel like spring here...hours of freezing rain and ice pellets before changing to rain.  We enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner with daughter & family and her in-laws.

We also celebrated grand baby's first birthday on Good Friday!  Due to travel restrictions just us grand parents were in attendance...but we had an enjoyable afternoon with delicious pizza...and her Daddy made delicious birthday cupcakes!!

Her other grand mother had delicious and beautifully decorated cookies made for the celebration...

We are so blessed that our girl is now healthy & happy....and on the move!!  She has mastered scooting around on one knee...while pushing with her other foot!  Grampie & her Daddy installed the safety gate at the top of the stairs just in time......

Our family room is almost complete....just waiting for the buffalo check chair to arrive...and it is done!   I was able to find a perfect use for my wooden tool box....(showing off my not so green thumb...*wink*) ...

We moved the dish cabinet...and filled it with the new dinnerware pieces I purchased...the dishes are "Certified International" from Amazon...very farm oriented...you can see the new base mouldings a bit in this photo...

I was excited to find a dachshund throw at Home Sense for Liesel!  It is a generous size..and very soft and cuddly.  I tossed it on the new sofa...and that is pretty much her new snuggle spot!

Mr. Seventies has installed the new light fixtures in two of the bedrooms...since the guest bedroom hasn't been started...he will do that one later.  And I plan to have my vanity re-painted...something a little more daring than white!!

We are in a holding pattern waiting for door casings to arrive...until then Mr. Seventies will be painting the window frames...he has windows in three rooms yet to complete.  And start on the interior doors.  The base mouldings cannot be installed until the door casings are painted & installed...so we wait.

I picked up a couple of new table lamps...thank you FB Marketplace!  That is about as far as we have come so far...

Thanks for stopping by!!  Hope you have an awesome day!!
