Early Cold & Flu Season

Both Mr. Seventies & I have been battling colds this week.  First me...then I generously passed it on to him!  Throw Liesel into the mix with her arthritis flare up...we've had quite a week!  Mr. Seventies has suffered the cold worse than I...even running a temp.  Today he is mildly improved...and will take the next few days to continue to recuperate.

Liesel is on the mend...the inflammation has settled down.  I've been able to do short walks with her to retrieve mail...to keep stiffness from settling in.  She has a dental cleaning appointment booked the latter part of September.  Keep that between us...

My nephew & wife will be visiting from Nova Scotia in September!  We are so looking forward to having them.  He is my sister's only child...and when COVID hit...they were able to make the move from Ontario, (where they lived  and worked for over twenty years).....to Nova Scotia.  I only wish their Moms were still with us...now that they are living closer.   They are parents to two adorable French bulldogs...who will be staying with their Auntie while they have a weekend getaway!

Last day of August...already!  This month....with all its wet weather...has flown by all the same.  Schools will soon be opening...buses will be on the roads.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!  Hope to be back to blogging next week!

Til next time...

Hallowe'en Has Exploded In the Stores!!

Happy Monday!! I was out and about the latter part of last week...and finally seeing fall & Hallowe'en decor in the stores!  Before I share my finds....a quick update on Liesel.  We are seeing improvement...today we're still medicating & keeping her for the most part in her x pen....but the pen door is open...so she can venture in & out freely.  She will take in some sun bathing this afternoon....and we will re-assess her tomorrow.

And I've picked up a wonderful cold! (not Covid)...just a miserable cough & all that comes with colds.  It began on Saturday...so I'm only a couple of days into it.  Hopefully, by mid week...it will begin to run its course.

When I walked into one store...I almost squealed...(like a kid)...when I saw all the Hallowe'en items!  I know some don't care for the inflatables...but I love seeing them.  My daughter's neighbour has a yard full of them every year....and we always stop for a photo session with grand daughter!

How can you not smile & wear a happy face when you see these?  Okay, I'll share only a couple...and then we will move on....

I love me a red truck!  Heck, I even love me a green truck!  And I'm really loving both of these....

I think I might have to have a set of witches legs!  So cute to stick along the front walkway!

And this huge black pumpkin...it lights up!  So spooky...and would look amazing as part of an outdoor display!

Who doesn't love a skeleton cushion?  I sure do...and love how the legs hang down!  I'm holding back on purchasing cushions....until I see what I have in my totes!

This one at Michaels is a definite maybe...

I popped into Michaels briefly....and they had additional decor set out!  Yup....I sure do love fall!

And who doesn't need pastel witches boots in their life?

Or a set of spooky candles at Home Sense...that light up!

One thing I've noticed at Home Sense...are the price increases.  The stack of white pumpkins I shared last week....were $99.99 last year.  They are currently $129.99!  That's quite a jump in price.  I find they don't discount their pieces by much either...maybe only a couple of dollars!

This adorable piece was discounted on Poshmark...and is currently making it's way to me....

I can't wait to decorate for fall....waiting for September and when I'm feeling better!  I did put this little arrangement together...using the white glue to resemble water....nothing fancy and I could have been more precise with my arrangement of picks....but not bad for my first go...it will likely find a new home with one of my girls....

An antique shop in Summerside is hosting an estate sale...date has not been announced yet...but I'm hoping it's after our SUV goes back in the shop the middle of September (parts ordered).  Look at all this gorgeous-ness!  Mason's Pink Vista - just happens to be my collection of dishes!  I have a great many pieces and place settings....but I'd love to snag this large soup tureen & stand!  It's right in the centre of the table!  And I'm so wanting it!!

I have a number of the serving pieces & platters...along with the coffee and tea pot.. the small soup tureen shown here....and numerous cream and sugar sets...

This pattern is still in production...but some of my pieces were produced years ago....others are new...
it's wonderful to know I can always still add pieces....

My friend & I hope to attend the estate sale...depending on location and date of the sale!  The one thing I wish I had...was a huge cabinet to display my Masons'.  If I had a dining room...I'd have a cabinet for sure.  Maybe in my next life....

I have to share Mr. Gardener Extraordinaire with his winnings....complete with a stake to advise everyone he won Best Garden Selection.   And was gifted two containers of Miracle Grow to boot!

Mr. Seventies removed the steps from the pool in preparation for closure & began the draining process.  August was certainly not a pool month....but we had our fill in July!

And with today being Monday...please drop over to https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for  Metamorphosis Monday.

And two additional link parties tomorrow....https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire Me Tuesday...and also with Lyndsay at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for Tell It To Me Tuesday.

Liesel & I are going to spend the day recuperating.  Thanks so much for hanging out with me...and until next time....

I'll Just Lay Here With My Head on My Toys!!

Liesel is still on the down low for the next couple of days, at least.  We do allow her free time...and have furniture barricaded with cushions so she is unable to jump.  And she has been busy sunbathing on her blankie in the afternoons...

Heavy rains forecasted here for the weekend!  And we're hearing rumblings about tropical storm Franklin, middle of next week.   Hoping this guy veers off our path!

Have an awesome weekend!

Our Gardens Won Runner-Up!!

We have been advised our gardens won Runner Up in the city Beautification competition!  A representative is dropping off our "prize"...

I'm very proud & happy for Mr. Seventies....he loves his "English" style gardens...as do I!!

It's Time-Already

August has been a bust....weather-wise.  It's been rainy, overcast and temperatures dropping low over nights to single digits.   Pool days have come to an end for this year....and with that realization Mr. Seventies will be closing it this weekend.  That entails draining most of the water out, removing the steps, unhooking the pool pump and wintering it in the furnace room.  The solar blanket needs replacing next year...the current one will be cut into strips and be put in the waste (it is sadly not recyclable).

The patio furniture will remain for a while longer....if days remain warm enough to enjoy being outside or a storm is forecasted...

So this happened this week....an arthritis flare up...... we treat with rest in the x pen and pain medications....

She is resting comfortably...the difficult part is keeping her quiet when she wants to get moving again...but we'll give it another day or so to settle the inflammation down.  Before long....she was snoozing away.....

I couldn't resist these adorable mugs...on Poshmark.  I'll use them when I set up the fall coffee bar...along with the witch cauldron mugs I have packed away....

Are you ready for some fall decor?  It's finally out in full force in the stores here....even Wal Mart has a small, pathetic selection of it.  But they are trying nonetheless...I came across a few pieces there...

These weren't bad...but not soft and squishy....as I thought they would be....but cute just the same....

These pieces were not great quality....but at least Wal Mart here is making an attempt....

Then I dropped into Home Sense....where Hallowe'en and fall goodness has exploded.....much to my delight!!   I'm crushing on this ghost....it lights up!!  Love!  Wish he would fit on my front steps...but my wagon of gnomes, stack of pumpkins and a live fall mum usually occupy that area.  We still need access to the front door after all....

O my gosh!  The height of this stack of pumpkins was amazing!!  Oh to have a large entryway!!!

And finally a beautiful assortment of fall cushions....I was saddened to discover they are not down filled...but pretty all the same....

I could have taken photo cushions for days....there is that large an assortment.   Don't want you nodding off though...

These ghosts are pretty awesome....and I'm loving the white!  We grew white pumpkins one year....they are called Lumina.  Pumpkins tend to overtake the vegetable garden so we stopped growing them...and usually hit a pumpkin patch instead....

Beautiful selection of table runners and place mats....these are a couple of my favourites....

And look who I came across!  Gus the Mummy....I have him in my stash....along with his big brother Marvin....

Even Count Dracula has made an appearance this year!!!

And this frog's face is so cute!  I'm thinking he might just be Prince Charming waiting to be kissed!!

I had dropped the cover to Liesel's glass treat jar...on the granite counter...and it shattered into a zillion pieces!  I knew its replacement would not be glass.. I came across this one....it holds her snacks perfectly....and I don't have to worry about breaking it.

There was a huge assortment of amazing smelling candles....I'm good with a great selection of candles and tarts already.....

And lastly a couple of adorable mugs!  How awesome would it be to have your morning coffee or tea in one of these?

I hope I didn't bore you to death....but I just love fall and Hallowe'en!  The "ber" months are my favourites!

The sun is out in full force today....it will be difficult to keep a wire hair under wraps and on the down low.  She is currently giving me stink eye....trying to guilt me into allowing her out of the x pen!  Not going to happen....this afternoon I'll let her out and she can bask under the front window in the afternoon sun!

Thanks so much for spending time with me today!  Are you excited for cooler days and sweater weather? I dropped off three bags of clothes at the thrift shop...proud to say I've lost fifteen pounds...and things are starting to be a bit baggy and loose.  I went through my winter clothing...and with the exception of needing a couple of tops....I'll be good for a few months with what I have.

Have an awesome weekend everyone!   Til next time.....

An Unexpected Find!!

Happy Monday!!  We shared a wonderful week with our youngest granddaughter from Nova Scotia!  We shopped til we dropped, went for lunch a few times...enjoyed a visit to the hair salon...and even though some days were overcast...we spent hours hanging out on the decks and swims in the pool!  And youngest granddaughter was pretty smitten & entertained by her older cousin!  We lit the fire pit a few nights....and  toasted marsh mellows!

For her return home, the Confederation Bridge provides a shuttle service from PEI to New Brunswick...she & I took the shuttle across where her Mom was waiting to pick her up.  When an adult accompanies a minor across the shuttle (a requirement)....there is no charge for the adult and only $4.75 for granddaughter!  Compared to a $50.25 bridge toll...that is a bargain.  We had to wait less than five minutes for the shuttle to arrive & take us across!  And after picking up two passengers on the NB side coming to PEI...we turned around and headed back within ten minutes or so.   An enjoyable visit had come to a close....

I have to share my latest find!  I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a four poster bed.  We had one a few years ago...but it was more a "country" style...large & chunky and took up a lot of space in the bedroom.  Imagine my surprise...when I came across just the bed I had been dreaming of on FB Marketplace...at a steal of a price!  I mulled it over in my mind for a couple of days before sharing with Mr. Seventies.  To my surprise...he was on board with purchasing it!

I made arrangements to check it out....it's a genuine, antique four poster bed...in immaculate condition.  Most I've come across are pretty banged up and usually some DIY'er has attempted a poor paint job.   But not this one...it was in the guest bedroom of an older couple, who happened to be downsizing....and I was immediately in love!

Our neighbour and friend has a truck & trailer...so he, Mr. Seventies and our son-in-law made the twenty-five minute trek through traffic to pick up the bed.  The had five furniture blankets and tarps on hand to wrap the pieces and secured them with strapping.  Once it arrived home....Mr. Seventies and son-in-law got to work setting it up!  As with any four poster beds I've seen....it is much higher than traditional beds....and our mattress is very thick...thank goodness a stool accompanied the bed!   And we are fairly tall people!

I am thrilled with my latest piece of furniture!  Friends have a similar bed...and it is quite high as well...that just adds to the charm!!

I also found these adorable pots at a thrift shop!  I think they originally were filled with yogurt..I've seen them in other provinces...but not here.  I thought they'd make adorable Christmas pots...since they have trees on them...at one time I think they may have had wooden tops....but I'm happy to have found them...and three of them no less!

The night temperatures are definitely cooling down...it was time to put the electric blanket on the bed...already!  I suspect our time in the pool is coming to a close for this year....but we'll leave it open for another week or so.  Usually once the overnight temps dip low...and we have cloudy days...the water cools off quite a bit.  And when the days cool off...I have no desire to take a dip.

Our SUV is going in for repairs tomorrow.  Not sure what the problem(s) are...but driving back from Nova Scotia a couple of weeks ago...it began making a racquet!  At first we were thinking muffler or exhaust....but now we're pretty certain that is not the issue.  Whatever it is....I'll be glad to have it repaired.....and quiet.

So that is a brief update my friends.  And since it's a brand new week...that means a few awesome blog parties to attend!  I love blog parties....reading about what others are up to...and looking at some beautiful homes and re-dos!  Join me later today at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for  Metamorphosis Monday .

And Tuesday drop over to Marty's blog https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire me Tuesday and Lyndsey at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for Tell It To Me Tuesday!

I've hope you've had a wonderful week...thanks so much for spending time with me!  Feel free to leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you.

And...just a heads up....the fall decor is finally arriving in stores here....and I will be checking them out during the week!  Can't wait!!

Til next time.....

Followed up with a trip to the hair salon for a quick trim!  Tomorrow we are on the hunt for school sneakers....and may visit a thrift store or two!  This kid loves to shop!   Warms her Mimi's heart!
