Family Room & Outdoor Fall Decor

The evenings are shorter now....it's dark much earlier.  And September is slipping away.  We're enjoying spending time in the family room...with a bit of fall decor.  Along with a few great smelling candles...

I hung the strand of pumpkins around my cabinet...along with my Hello Fall sign... it  holds dear memories of when my BFF and I spent an evening at a craft class painting them.   It weighs on my heart it will be four years next month since she passed away so suddenly....

Decided to hang this fall garland across the mantle...the pellet stove hasn't been turned on yet.  I'm still working on Mr. Seventies to switch it out to a propane fireplace...it's not looking promising for this year!  I have this vision in my head of a gorgeous mantle....along with switching the stove out to a fireplace,  No muss...no fuss.  Just flick a switch...and instant ambience and heat.  No bags of wood pellets required.  I'll keep working on him...

Mr. Seventies gets credit for the outside display....complete with corn husks....he took down the dragonfly though...put it in storage until spring...

The price of pumpkins this year!!  $5-$6 a piece!!   Crazy...next year we are going to grow them in the vegetable garden again.  Other years they usually sell for $2 or so....but like everything else...they have just about doubled in price!

We didn't do much at the back door....I hung a fall wreath....and this adorable fall flag....

Wal Mart finally brought in a small supply of tarts...these are two of my favourites.....Pecan Waffles and Banana Toffee Pie!!  They smell as good as they sound...

Stores are busy here....setting out Christmas decor!  I'm going to enjoy fall while it's here though.   I am crushing hard on these candles though...at $34.99 each...there was no way I was going to pay that price.  But...they are mummies....*sigh*

Looking forward to my nephew & wife's visit this weekend.   She & I will browse a couple of shops....one is a Christmas store that I've never been in...looking forward to that.

Have an awesome weekend and thanks so much for stopping by!  Til next time...

Liesel's Amazing Groomer!!

Since taking Liesel to her new groomer a few months back....we couldn't be any happier with how caring and thoughtful she is when working with Liesel.

Since Liesel fears clippers and scissors...she is hand stripped.  Which is the proper technique for grooming any wire hair breed of dog.  Most groomers either cannot or won't do it....but this is Liesel's preferred way of being groomed.  She fully relaxes...and hand stripping...contrary to how it sounds....is not painful or hurtful.

Trimming her front legs, paws and nails is a bit of a challenge....since Liesel is arthritic in both shoulders and front legs.

I give you, what we affectionally call...the "slingshot"!  A safe & secure hammock...which causes no stress or pressure on the chest and upper body....and no moving or turning of legs to trim!!   Meghan (our groomer)....shared how this method works & Liesel totally relaxed...and having an odd treat or two snuck in...

It only takes but a few minutes to trim her legs, paws and nails...to complete her grooming.  And she always smells amazing after her bath!!

It is less stressful for both of us when Liesel is being so lovingly cared for.  And looking all adorable at the same time!!  Everyone always comments how sweet she is....

Today...is forecast to be a gorgeous fall day...so a walk is definitely in the plans.  My nephew & wife plan to visit from Nova Scotia this weekend...after Hurricane Lee caused us to cancel a couple of weeks ago.  We are looking forward to their visit....and will dine out at a local pub during their stay.  Daughter & son-in-law will be joining us as well.

I hope fall has arrived in all its glory where you are!!  Have an awesome day!!

Kitchen Decked Out For Fall

Since fall is officially underway....the kitchen is outfitted for the season!    I'm still waiting for one cute piece to arrive....this adorable tea pot...it should be an adorable addition to the coffee/tea bar area....

I love seeing my Gripstand bowls!  I think I'm up to fourteen currently.   There were a couple advertised on FB Marketplace a few days ago....but they were from China.  Not true Gripstands from England.....

The coffee/tea bar area with an assortment of spooky mugs!  The Keurig coffee maker (our second one)...up and died.  I think from lack of use....I'm not a coffee drinker...and Mr. Seventies only likes a coffee now and then,   We decided not to replace it...he is perfectly happy with instant coffee...but usually prefers tea as well....the kettle may be updated in the coming weeks...

And Marvin the Mummy is back this year...with a couple of Mummy friends joining him...the kettle is on for a cup of tea in my mug....

I added a few fall stems to the bottle from the thrift/junk shop dropped off a few weeks back...

And a couple of decorative pieces in a small niche near the pantry.....

My fall tart warmers and candles keep the house smelling amazing!  I use two in the kitchen...the candy corn warmer and the all wrapped up mummy one....keeping Marvin company....

I ventured to the Red Barn Bakery....it's located in Ebenezer...(yes that's what the area is called).... it's a bake shop run by an Amish family.....I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to locate it.   I need not have been concerned...it's very visible with a huge sign close to the road way...

The loaves of whole grain bread were cooling in the pans....and the dinner rolls were still in the oven!  Talk about fresh!  I didn't realize they accept cash only....and sales are written down by hand.  Not a concern....I had time to run a few errands...pick up some cash...and it gave my order plenty of time to cool and be ready when I returned.   I suspect most of our whole grain bread will be purchased there from now on!  It is delicious and very filling...

I'll share family room photos...ready for fall as well....and Mr. Seventies has the front entry looking very welcoming....complete with corn stalks!

Liesel has a grooming appointment this morning.  While having her dental last week....I was able to browse a couple of stores....and they are gearing up for Christmas already!  Well...the big day is three months from today...have you started your shopping yet?  I'll share a sneak peek later in the week...

Monday and Tuesdays are my favourite days....as I get to partake in blog parties....and keep up with what other bloggers are up to!  Join me today at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for  Metamorphosis Monday

The weather is forecast to be beautiful here this week.  Liesel has a grooming appointment today...and I have a few errands to run!  This afternoon she and I will take a walk about the neighbourhood.

Have an awesome day & thanks for sharing part of it with me.   Til next time....

Touch Of Fall In The Air

The past few days the weather has felt very fall like!  The evenings are darker much earlier....and the mornings are later getting lighter.   It's put me in the mood to do some fall decorating!  I've been puttering away at putting decor out...going through boxes and totes.   If the weather co-operates Mr. Seventies will set up a fall display...complete with corn stalks & potted Mum.

The raccoons have been helping themselves to our corn in the garden...and I'm okay with that.  As long as they leave enough for us to have a few good feeds....we don't mind sharing.  Today is the type of day that calls for a beef stew in the crock pot!  There is an Amish bakery called The Red Barn not far from us....with the most delicious rolls and whole grain breads!  I hope to visit there today...

I used an Air Miles e-voucher and placed  a small order with Bath & Body Works....I love that it costs me 0 dollars...and their room sprays were on half price!  As was the three wick candle....it smells amazing!! I'm still holding out hope they will open a brick and mortar store here!

And remember the Grinch statue I shared at Costco?  My friend & her hubby were in New Brunswick...and since they have a membership...they made a stop there.  Unfortunately, all the Grinch statues sold out.  Another friend has been keeping an eye on their website...her husband orders from Costco all the time...(free shipping for orders $100 or more).  He planned to add one for me to his order when they came back in stock.

Imagine my delight, when my friend Elaine in New Brunswick....sent me this photo...she was shopping at Costco.  She asked if I wanted one of these.  Um...yes please!  They just received a new shipment...and she placed one in her cart for me!

Rather than mail it ....my friend, Judy and I are planning a day trip to Moncton in October. I'll pick my the Grinch then.  (We had originally planned a trip to Maine...but opted to stay a little closer to home!)
I'm happy my friend in Moncton was able to pick up "Holiday Grinch" for me!!

I decided to place the scarecrow mat at the front door!  I would have preferred it placed in the kitchen....but so would Miss Liesel.....and I'm not about to let her possibly use it for a pee pad!  She likely wouldn't...but I'm not going to take a chance.   It's safe at the front door....as she is unable to do steps...and there are five to go down to the door.

And the wreath I ordered on Etsy...is gorgeous hung in the front entry!

Thanks so much for spending a bit of your time with me today!  Busy couple of days ahead with appointments and errands to run.  Wishing everyone an awesome day!!

Main Bath - Done For Now

Hurricane Lee was pretty much a no show here...which was a relief.  It was blustery...and rainy...but nothing we haven't received before.  No trees down or damage to anything on our property....and we didn't lose our power.  So...all in all...we escaped this storm.

The main bath is put together.  I kept it simple.   To refresh your memory....a couple of before photos...

There was some patching and sanding required prior to applying two coats of fresh paint.  I'm very fortunate Mr. Seventies is such a great painter....and awesome at keeping our home and property looking tip top.  He is a do-er...not one to let others do what he is capable of doing....and  he enjoys it.

I am loving the new colour....(Milkweed Pod from Behr).  Mr. Seventies did an excellent job hanging the cabinet.  It's quite heavy...with three shelves inside for storage.  And the doors are soft close.  I don't think knobs or handles are necessary....I love the simplicity of Shaker style.

At first glance I thought the cabinet was hung a bit high...(I wasn't home when it was installed).   But I'm fine with it...and thankfully tall.  (I noticed one shade on the light fixture needed straightening....Mr. Seventies had removed the shades for painting & cleaning)....and I didn't notice one shade needed to be moved upright a bit.....done.

The new hamper arrived...from Amazon - it's a bit smaller than the previous one....which is perfect.....and it sits under the cabinet.  Over the weekend I asked Mr. Seventies to install a twelve inch towel bar on the wall above it....large enough to hold a hand towel or face cloth....

I like the bath caddy...it holds the essentials close by....

I don't have any wall decor....if I run across something I absolutely love....I will pick it up.  The cow canvas that was on the wall over the tub.....no longer fit the colour of the room.  I put it on FB Marketplace and within thirty minutes....it was sold.  Appears I am not the only cow lover in town!

Since we use a gate across the hall....to keep Liesel from having access to the bath and bedrooms (that's another story)....I am able to place my bath mat on the floor.   She has a thing for mats...and needs to not have access to them....

The view facing the shower and door of the bath.....

And there it is!   It's not a huge bath... I don't feel the need to clutter it up with a lot of "things".  It's very easy to maintain and keep clean...I'm very pleased with the results.

Mr. Seventies brought our fall interior fall decor up from the storage room in the basement.  I'm staring at two very large boxes and a couple of totes!   I hope to tackle decorating for fall/Hallowe'en today!

I plan to spend one day this week...checking out Inspired Living and Home Sense...hope you can tag along.

Be sure and check out the awesome link parties at a few of my favourite bloggers!  I'll be joining Susan later today at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for  Metamorphosis Monday.

And tomorrow with Marty at https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ for Inspire Me Tuesday and Lyndsey at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for Tell It To Me Tuesday!!

Thanks so much for stopping by....I appreciate you hanging out with me!   Til next time....

Remnants of Hurricane Lee

Another wet & windy weather system is going to impact our weekend weather.  Forecasters are advising it won't be as devastating as Fiona was last year, but many here still have tarp covered roofs....awaiting repairs after one year!

Mr. Seventies has been busy putting everything outside away, the patio furniture, outdoor fire pit and my Edison and bumble bee lights taken in for the year.  The pool is drained down & the pump disconnected & stored in the furnace room.  The propane tank to the grill will get topped up today.  We have batteries and a battery powered radio in the event we lose power.  With clean up around the Island from last year stilll uncompleted....more trees and debris could cause power outages.

Miss Liesel is undergoing a dental cleaning this morning!  So no breakfast or water for her until afterwards.  She's never had any extractions...so let's hope the trend continues.  She will be dropped off at our vet clinic....they will call around lunch time to update and if all goes well...she should be ready to come home by mid afternoon.  She is currently searching for her water bowl...but we had to take it up as she needs to have no food or drink from 8:00 p.m. last evening...

This adorable 20" piece I'm crushing on....is available at Costco.  For those who aren't aware...we do not have Costco here....the closest location is in Moncton, New Brunswick.  My friend and her husband are currently in Moncton, taking in a concert and will pick it up for me!!  I can't wait to get it when they return in a day or two!!  I do have another friend who orders from Costco frequently...so that was also an option...but I was afraid it may suffer breakage in shipment!

And this adorable set is on it way to me!!  A set of Mummies from one of my favourite sellers on Poshmark!  I hope to bring out the fall decor this weekend....a good, stormy weekend to do just that...the smaller pieces are salt & pepper shakers!

Mr. Seventies hung the new shaker cabinet in the main bath yesterday!  It looks amazing and its wonderful to have extra storage.  It's a very heavy piece and I was impressed he hung it by himself....and it is sturdily hung.  The doors are soft close...I love that.

I hope to share photos of the bath on Monday...and invite you to check out my blog on Monday!  Sadly, a visit with my nephew & his wife planned for the weekend has been postposed and we'll reschedule for another weekend.  They are due to get winds and a good soaking in their area of Nova Scotia as well.

Have an awesome weekend....and til next time...

Main Bath Refresh

Mr. Seventies has been busy the past few days painting the main bath.  It was in much need of freshening up....and a bit of prep work was required....(towel bar, light fixture, wall plug covers were all removed)....

It's been about five years since we did a full bath renovation....and it was time to say good-bye to the teal walls....

I felt the door had "yellowed" when in fact when we replaced all the mouldings and added mouldings to the doors....they were painted a creamier white than the white in the bath....

The new paint colour (remember...it costs $107 or so for the gallon)....is Behr Milkweed Pod....and I'm very happy with the results.  It didn't take long to chose this colour....it was the second one I actually looked at....my first choice I felt was much too dark....

I'll only share a couple of sneak peek photos....as Mr. Seventies only finished the second coat late yesterday afternoon....

Rather than go with one of the cabinets I posted earlier, at Home Depot....I ordered this white shaker styled one...fully assembled from Kent Building Supplies.  I should hear today if it is actually in stock & we can pick it up.  Inside are two shelves....we went with the 24" wide x 30" high cabinet....perfect to hold shampoo, body wash, and other bathroom essentials.  It will need a couple of knobs or handles for easy opening.   Fingers crossed it is in stock....

The current teal clothes hamper will need to be replaced...and I've been searching for weeks for a solution,  Most wicker or canvas hampers....do not have a water proof lining.  Not that we store wet laundry....I feel more comfortable with a vinyl hamper and found this white one on Amazon.  It will sit behind the door....under the wall cabinet....

Once I have the bath pulled together....I'll share a few more photos.  It's raining here currently....Mr. Seventies pulled the onions from the garden and laid them out to dry for a few days.  They received a good rinsing & drying....before being set in the shed for storage.  He brought a couple in the house...and shared a few with the neighbours.  Our corn is still not ready....so much for the early maturity variety we chose!

We're keeping a close eye on a storm system that could bring winds and rain by next weekend.  Sounds like it could be Fiona 2.0.  (Fiona was a category 2 storm).   The current one is Hurricane Lee.  My nephew and wife are due to visit then...but we will all be watching our weather forecast...they could battle the same storm where they live.  We plan to be better prepared....Mr. Seventies has put most of the outdoor furniture and items away, the fire pit will go in the storage shed....and the propane tank for the grill will be filled.  In the event we lose power...at least we will have something to cook on and boil water for tea and coffee!

Marty, at https://www.astrollthrulife.net/ is hosting fall home tours this week...I'm really excited to see some beautiful homes decorated for all.  I haven't even started yet!   Soon though....

And tomorrow join Lyndsey at https://perfectlyimperfect-lwl.com/ for Tell It To Me Tuesday!!!

That's it for today peeps!!  Thanks so much for stopping by....I so appreciate your visits!   Til next time....

Paint Prices-Sticker Shock!!

I picked up a gallon of paint for Mr. Seventies to give the main bath a refresh!  I near fainted at the checkout - almost $107 (with tax) for a gallon of paint at Home Depot!!  *thud*.  Nothing fancy or unique about it...just regular paint!    I should have set it down and walked out once I rang it up at the self check out...but I think I was in shock.  I'll share the colour at a later time.

Home Depot has a scanner....when you scan the back of a paint chip....it will give you co-ordinating colour suggestions!  I love that machine!!   I used it when we repainted the entire interior of the house before the new crown mouldings were installed.   I'm not a one and done colour gal....I couldn't have the same colour....on every wall....in my home.  The all whites, beiges and greys...don't do it for me.

I certainly will appreciate this paint more when it's on the wall!!  While it was being mixed I browsed their Hallowe'en section....some pretty scary stuff going on in there (besides paint prices)...the short, creepy guy on the left...was really scary!  I could see little ones being terrified of some of this stuff!  He scared the bejezuz out of me!!  He moves and talks with a really, creepy voice....

I noticed a shopper carrying two of the skeletons shown on the far right!  And this guy...not a fan!

The witches legs in the cauldron were kicking!!  That's a bit more my preference...

Another reason for my visit to Home Depot....was to check out the pre-built upper cabinets for behind the main bath door.  Storage is severely lacking in the bath and a wall cabinet would hold a few towels, wash cloths, shampoos, shower gel, bath items, and such.   I found a couple in different sizes...

Or this one.....but I do prefer...if there is room the larger 30" cabinet.  I'll have him attach handles as well. Mr. Seventies will need to measure and choose the size that works best...

Anyhow, once I picked my jaw off the floor & purchased the paint...I headed for Winners...to calm my nerves...(from price fright)....

I am crushing so hard on this cushion....as hard as one can crush!   But I showed great restraint....and set it back...

And while there...I found a bath tray...I had been searching for one for a while now!  And this one fits perfectly across the bath tub....to hold loofahs, sponges, bath bombs, oils, & all sorts of potions!  I centered the rubber stoppers on each end...and they hold the tray perfectly in place!

And no visit to Winners would be complete without a browse down the candle aisle!  I was not disappointed!

I don't really need another candle...but this one smells so amazing....I couldn't resist!

Showers expected in the forecast today!  It was so windy yesterday....and last evening...we decided to forgo lighting the fire pit.  Friday...the temperature is supposed to climb to 29 C (or 84 F). Warm for this time of year.....especially when the overnight temps are so low.  The pool is draining...that signals summer is over for us.

Grand dog Benson (also a dachshund) is having an IVDD flare up and heading to the vet this morning for a check up.  Pls. keep him in your thoughts and prayers....little guy just celebrated his tenth birthday last week!

Have an awesome weekend peeps!!!  And til next time....
