Spring Like Weather Is Over

We have some messy weather coming our way later today and overnight...the usual mess...snow, ice pellets, rain...and winds.  Lately I've been able to wear sneakers when Liesel and I go for walks...so back to icy, wet sidewalks again.

Is this onesie not the most adorable thing?  Of course one is on order for baby girl...

Liesel is a bit obsessed with Peter Rabbit...I had to sneak him on the bed when she wasn't looking...she thinks all things stuffed are hers!

I took a trek around Bed Bath & Beyond the other day....it has been ages since I've been there!  They carry a line of home goods & bedding called Bee & Willow...(I've ordered a couple of crotchet throws...they are gorgeous).  They had a few items in store...but most is carried on line.  I did get Mr. Seventies some Keurig cups...used a 20% off coupon...so these should do him a while!

Our little grand dog Benson has not behaving normal the last few days...his Mama & I were chatting and I recommended she take him to our vet...they will work him in.  We have been long time clients...(having three dachshunds with numerous health issues)...we've spent our fair share of time there!  Benson was attended to and diagnosed with an episode of IVDD...a disc disease common in dachshunds.  Typically, one in four will have a back issue at some time or another.

When a disc or discs in the spine calcify or harden...they swell and push on the spinal column causing pain, loss of movement and in a full rupture...loss of mobility in their back legs.  He was shivering...which is an indication of pain...another symptom...so daughter took him in.   Our fears were justified...during the examination it was determined he was suffering a back episode.  Not time to panic yet...he was prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medication...and will spend his time resting and recuperating.

We are hoping his back won't deteriorate further...in a number of cases...they have flare ups and may or may not have an actual disc rupture.  If a rupture does occur...surgery is mandatory.  So, we will continue to watch him closely.    His parents have a Furbo which allows them to monitor him on their phones at all times!  What a great invention!!

Let's hope things settle down before his little sister makes her debut!

It's Almost Bunny Season

Look what I came upon at Wal Mart!  Peter Rabbit...oh so adorable...

Resistance was futile my friends.  Mr. Seventies brought up my "bunny" tote from the basement store room...I set a few on our dresser.   Said Peter Rabbit is currently in hiding...actually safe keeping from a certain wire hair dachshund who thinks he is a play toy for her!  Because...you know...toys are in short supply around here...

Freshened up the bed with spring colours...if nothing else we can fake that spring is actually near....

We've been having mild temperatures...which in my opinion...is a recipe for snow storms to brew.  And we have one brewing later in the week...mess of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain & rain.  As long as we have bitter, cold temps...it's too cold to snow.  Once it milds up...guarantee a storm will be upon us.  It is...still winter...after all.

The last thing I need is another coat...but this one is on clearance...and just so pretty.  It was available in off white, dark green and this chocolate brown (which is the colour I chose)...

The sweaters from my previous post arrived and fit beautifully...love them both.  One store I seldom shop at is Old Navy (other than to pick up maternity leggings for daughter).  I popped in the other day...and right in front of me were jeans at 75% off.  I sorted through and picked up a pair of $65 jeans for under $19.  They are so comfortable and super soft.  And a cute lightweight sweater.  For the prices (and the quality)...worth the $$.  After meeting a friend for coffee...we plan to check Old Navy out again....

We are on the home stretch for baby grand daughter's arrival!  So excited...we can hardly wait to meet her!  Dachshund big brother Benson is less than thrilled with the changes...dogs know when the dynamics of the house shifts..and he is sensing something is different.  They are doing everything to acclimate him yet keeping him on his schedule..and he is loving having is Mama home a few more days each week.  He will do just fine with his new human sister....especially when she is old enough to drop food!

Going to get out and enjoy this mild weather while it lasts!  Have an awesome day!!

Cold End To The Week

We've had some brutal wind chills the last 2-3 days...thankfully after today we are forecast to have much more seasonal temps.  I am not a fan of extreme cold...not so much for myself..but it is rough on a little doxie girl...who needs to get outside.  We bundle her in an extra layer and carry her out...as her paws will pain if she is left on the snow and ice for very long.

I picked up the furniture slipcovers and they were laundered and pressed to perfection!  So easy to slip them back on...easy peasy.

I'll share some things I ordered...and the mail box key saga continues.  When a parcel is left in the mail compartment....a key is left in our mail box.  Due to the extreme cold....when the key was put in the parcel compartment....of course...it snapped in two...leaving part of the key in the key slot.  Not having an envelope in the SUV with me..I wrapped the broken key & key chain in a napkin, wrote "key broken" and tossed it back in the outgoing mail slot.  We'll see how that works out today.

And don't get me started on our waste & compost cart pick up!  Ourselves and neighbours on either side...set our compost carts out last Wednesday....as is our pick up day.  None were emptied...yet those along our road were.  We alerted Island Waste Mgmt...and were told to leave the carts out.  Monday, being a holiday, we were advised pick up would be Tuesday or Wednesday.  Since Wednesday is now black cart day...we all have two carts sitting out!

Neither were emptied!  I furiously called Island Waste Watch again....and was told the driver claimed the carts were "too far back from the road"!   Not sure if they prefer the Transportation & Public Works snow plow or the City of Charlottetown sidewalk plow to push them around all over the place.....but the carts were six feet from the road!!  Six feet!!  The driver couldn't possibly walk that far to empty the carts!!

We all hauled our carts out further...and there they still sit!  Apparently the black cart will get emptied today....but the green cart not until next Wednesday!

We've have a better chance of seeing Bigfoot than these darn carts being emptied!  Can you imagine if this was the heat of the summer?   BTW - Mr. Seventies has always set the carts in the same spot....never had an issue before.  Maybe a new driver?  Who knows.

On to prettier things...the winter sales continue...and I love the chocolate brown of this sweater...looks so cozy!

I have this one in a light brown colour....and I wear it all the time!  It washes beautifully....so I ordered it in the cream colour...

I have never ordered from Shein before..but know a few people who have and they seem to like the quality and the prices....I chose this pretty tunic to wear with leggings...

This one just feels summery to me...cute to wear with capris.....

I like the high waist of this one....hides a multitude of sins...and flows nicely over leggings...

I returned the ash vacuum for a full refund & picked one up at Home Depot.  Mr Seventies very happy with it....does a great job cleaning out the pellet stove.

That's it for this week!   Have an awesome weekend!!

New Ash Vacuum - A Dud

Our old ash vacuum (used for cleaning cold ashes from pellet & wood stoves, fire places and grills) was in need of replacement.  We picked up a new one...which has features we really like...for one...a light on the attachment, longer electrical cord and hose...great looking piece of equipment...

And that's where it ends!  Since yesterday was a warmer, sunny day...it was the perfect opportunity to shut the pellet stove off and test out the new vacuum!  Plugged it in....and nothing.  Hmm....I triple checked to make sure everything was connected properly....re-read the manual three times...and gave it a second go.  Again...nothing.   There is basically only one way to make sure everything is connected properly....so I was baffled.

When Mr. Seventies arrived home....he went through the steps again.  With the same results...nothing.  Zip. Nada.  No power.  So, back in the box it went...I have my receipt...and will be returning it today. And not purchasing the same vacuum again.  Since I need to pick up an appliance bulb at Home Depot...I will pick up an ash vacuum there and fingers crossed we have better luck.

Baby's girls diaper bag/backpack arrived....this is the type her parents preferred...as it can leave their hands free when on the go with her!  There is so much room for her necessities....it''s well constructed with lots of pockets and durable zippers (and of course....dachshunds) ....front view.....

Back view....long back straps...which are adjustable.  Mom and Dad have given it a definite thumbs up!

The little Princess boxes for her upcoming baby shower arrived as well...I didn't have time to put one together....but they will be perfect for chocolates or kisses for her guests.  The twine for tying up each box is even included!

I dropped our furniture slipcovers off over the weekend for washing and pressing!  They can be done in my oversized washer and dryer...but it's the pressing or steaming out wrinkles that is a b*tch!  And they do such a beautiful job...and worth the $40 to have them do them!  The cushion covers can be done in my machines...they are super easy to zip off and wash & dry.  And require little to no ironing!    My daughter is wanting to have hers laundered as well...I've offered to drop hers off when I pick mine up.  Turn around time is three days or so. Worth the wait....

Yesterday was such a beautiful, much warmer sun filled day....Liesel took full advantage of the sun and propped herself up on her favourite perch....after a morning walk.  She has a "spa" day tomorrow...keep that between us...(actually she has an amazing groomer...and Liesel is very comfortable with her...which makes me comfortable leaving her for an hour)...

Much colder here today...back into the -20 windchills.  Bundle up if it's cold where you are!!

Nursery Wall Reveal

We decided not to have the whole wall be a mural...it was felt it would over whelm the room...so we decided the wall required a focal point rather than the entire wall.  The nursery room is not a huge room...so this was a wonderful compromise.

Friend and artist extraordinaire Martina arrived with projector in tow...and set right to work....

We took a few minutes and decided on the location...

And then she began....I could have watched her for hours....but who wants someone over their shoulder when they paint, right?   In progress.....

And the finished product....we are all "over the moon"!!  How adorable is this?  If you look closely you can see the tiny stars...and I'm crushing on that pink heart!!

The view after we starting putting the nursery back together....baby girl's Mom & Dad are loving the results...and big brother Benson is the "model" for the doxie on duty...keeping a watchful eye.  After Sweet Pea makes her debut....Martina has offered to return and put her name somewhere in the mural....

I love than Benson has his own bed and blanket in baby's room...although for the first few weeks she will be in her bassinet in with her parents.....he has become accustomed to snuggling in her room....waiting...

A comfy spot for snuggling and rocking.....

Our oldest grand daughter Dana had a nasty fall over the weekend down a set of steps...and unfortunately broke a bone in her ankle!!  I teased thank heavens it wasn't her hand...how on earth would a teen text?  lol!  It was fortunate she had her phone....she was able to call her Mom to come, since she was unable to get up or put weight on her foot!  Straight to the Emergency Room they drove and 4 1/2 hours later....she was sporting new footwear on her left foot!

They applied a cast with a walking boot over the foot....but the Dr. advised to stay off her foot for a few days.  Thankfully, she has PD days at the community college she attends and is not required back in class until mid week.  And her boyfriend (also attends NSCC) happened to have a set of crutches for her to use.  On Friday she will have another x ray to see how the bone is mending. Last evening she was feeling better....the pain medication has been helping.

Mr. Seventies and I celebrated post Valentines Day with a dinner date over the weekend.  Downtown was buzzing since it was Jack Frost Festival weekend....and the weather...although cold...couldn't have been better!   We had tried to get a photo of the two of us once we reached the pub....but it was very crowded....but Mr. Seventies snapped this one of me before we left..I'm wearing my leather skirt and leopard booties (which I had to switch to winter boots before we left...). Looks like I have a roll..but it's the band of the skirt...that's my story & I'm sticking to it!!

I joked his wife was not available and she sent me instead!  He seemed okay with that!  We had a fun evening out!

Today is Islander Day...a provincial holiday...most businesses and provincial employees have the day off.  And for now...milder temperatures have returned!

Enjoy your day wherever you are!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Hope everyone has a beautiful, loved filled day!  Mr. Seventies gifted me with beautiful roses, sugar free chocolates & a lovely card.  Liesel & I gifted him with a dachshund mug & dachshund covered heart shaped box of chocolates, the Patriots sign I had painted for him (which he loved) and a card.

We have reservations over the weekend for an evening out.  Never married too long for romance!!

We required vaccinations for our protection and our upcoming baby girl...those were done yesterday. I took advantage while I was out do pop into the thrift store....I'm on the hunt for things to use for decor at her upcoming baby shower in May....and I think these little planters/dishes will be adorable filled with pink candies on the food table.....

And this vintage looking tray....will be perfect for sweets or cupcakes .....

I was searching for little treat boxes and found these ones....and with fifty in a package....I ordered them...they come with the twine to tie up the boxes....great for little chocolates or kisses....

I saw this cooked jar at the thrift shop too....it quacked me up!  (sorry....couldn't resist)...

This would be cute sitting on a shelf...I have a metal one on our mantle....

Before heading home I dropped into Michael's....where bunny decor is in full swing!!  This pretty gal greeted me as I walked in....adorable!!

I'm crushing hard on these boot planters...available in amazing colours!!  Currently things are BOGO...since these were $49.99 you would get another item of the same value free...

Of course...my heart skipped a beat for these cushions...the bicycle basket flower filled cushion is gorgeous....and I love the pom moms on the other one!

And of course...bunny cushions make my heart swoon!!

I think this one is my favourite...it has a vintage look feel to it!  But I would be hard pressed to pick just one!!

Remember the photo I submitted for the doxie contest where members were required to post a photo of themselves wearing their Doxies of the Maritime swag!  I submitted a photo of me wearing my Valentine t shirt swag....

I won the contest!!  Some doxie swag...with a new Irish Doxies of the Maritimes t shirt in honour of St, Paddy's Day!  The items are currently in the mail on their way to me!!

Dachshund Rescue of Atlantic Canada was holding a jewellery fundraiser...and I chose this adorable necklace (designed by Betsy Johnson....love her off the wall designs!!). Again this floated around the mail system for days and days....it was shipped from a neighbouring province....should not have taken nearly two weeks to arrive.  But it did arrive and I am very happy!!

And speaking of mail....I mentioned a few days ago about the clothing subscription box that was supposedly delivered on January 21, 2020....well it showed up the other day!  Oh the story it could tell!  No idea where is has been all this time....

Anyhow, since my first experience was not a positive one....I cancelled my subscription..and while the clothing I received was okay...(with the exception of a pair of jeans....no where near my size I had given).....the only things I kept were these awesome sneakers!!  I love the thick soles....and they are so comfortable!  Not to mention leopard print....need I say more?

And lastly I want to show off my pretty Valentine nails!!

Tomorrow morning the dachshund wall mural will be painted in grand baby's nursery!!  So excited....I'll share photos next week!!

Have an awesome weekend!  Stay warm...it's bitter cold here today!!

Browsing Home Sense

Yesterday it snowed here all day...flurries and the roads were slick later in the day.  I had an appointment in the morning...so took the opportunity to check out Home Sense...bunny decor is in full swing!!  How cute is this little guy....chillin'...

I'm crushing hard on these guys....may have to have one.  Who doesn't love carrot races?

Oh my gosh this wreath!!  I'm on the fence about getting this.  On one hand...the front door feels naked...spring is a long way off.  On the other hand...this wreath is giving me Easter vibes.  And Easter too is not until April...and until then...(and likely after) we will still be in winter.  I don't want to have this beautiful wreath outside in the elements....it wouldn't last a nano-second.  And I would want to put it o the door.  See my quandary?  Going to mull it over....as I currently have a couple of pretty spring wreaths...

Beautiful faux tulips...ridiculously over priced at $24.99!!  I know I didn't (and wouldn't) pay that for the ones I currently have.  I'm going to have a look at Michael's...which is a great spot for home decor...especially during sales and using coupons!

I loved the colour of this chair...it looks gold...but it was actually had green undertones..

I played around with these for a while...(you're welcome Home Sense).....some pretty bling on the clearance cart.  A couple of candle holders, mirrored box, glass perfume bottle and sparkly dish.  When I finished....a customer came along and put it all in her cart...each piece was marked $7.00...she thought I worked there!  No...just me...being weird.

I love this coffee mug...I have a friend who drinks wine...this would be perfect for her!

And look who arrived!!  Miss Patooty....you have no idea the precious memories she stirs up!  Mr. Seventies recognized her the minute he saw "Tooty"!   She was our daughter's favourite toy...especially when Tooty was naked with her tuft of hair missing!   Now her baby girl will hopefully love her as much as her Mama did...

Liesel was convinced she was for her!  It's going to be a challenge to keep toys around with two wiener dogs waiting in the wings to snatch them away....

Our neighbour came with his snow blower the other day and blew out a great path and trail for Liesel to get around in!  Girl be up to her little ears in snow out there....now she can romp and jump without getting buried!

Hope you have an awesome day!!  More snowy weather on the way!

Introducing Our New Grand Puppy

Our daughter and her family in Nova Scotia had to say good bye to their beloved lab mix, Abby a few months back.  She was such a beloved, gentle girl...but with her age and rapidly declining health, the hard decision to let her go peacefully was made.   Abby had been adopted from their local animal shelter as a puppy.

Our grand daughter Dana was visiting the shelter and it was love at first sight!  And the rest is history...so introducing Miss Stella....seen here on her way for a play date at the dog park!!

Cuteness overload or what?  She is currently nine months old and reported to be very sweet and gentle.  The shelter suspects she is a lab/whippet mix...and needed to put on some weight..but she is not an over sized girl.  The grand daughters love lavishing her with affection...and Stella is more than happy to indulge in play and snuggles!  Welcome to the family Stella!

Pretty quiet week here...my Doxie Lovers group is holding a contest...photos of each member wearing the group's swag!  We participate in various fundraising events to benefit dachshund rescue...this is my Valentine t-shirt from last year!

I happened to be at physiotherapy and Emily, one of the physiotherapists snapped this photo of me for the contest.   Can't believe I'm still smiling after an hour of exercise, stretches and biking!
The prize up for grabs is a goodie bag of treats with this year's St Paddy's t-shirt...for dachshunds who can't hold their licker!!

And will share a t-shirt Liesel ordered for her Mama...(perhaps an upcoming birthday prezzie?)

It says "Heart Disease Warrior" Unbreakable. A great fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke campaign don't you think?  February is Heart and Stroke Month....awareness is crucial.  I live with heart disease...(which is hereditary).  Due to great medical care and modern life saving procedures,  I am alive today when my Mom passed at age sixty two and grandmother at age fifty-eight from heart disease.   Way too young...but research, education and treatment has come a long way!!  Can I get an Amen.

Let's see...oh yes..the weather.  It sucks.  Freezing rain and wind warning in effect today...but it's winter in February...in Canada.  Nuff said.

Next week is Valentine's Day!!  Mr. Seventies & I have reservations to our favourite restaurant and pub for date night!  Anybody else doing anything special for Valentine's Day?

In the meantime, have an awesome weekend!!
