Upcoming Main Bedroom Refresh

As February is winding down, that signals it's time for a bedroom refresh!  Anyone else like me...and feels the need (or urge) to switch things out and freshen things up?  Surely, it can't just be me....

I've had this photo stored for ever now...and it's long been my inspiration.  I've been obsessed with red & white toile for a very long time....and love everything on this bed...

This stunning set, consisting of comforter, shams and bedskirt...has also long been on my radar.  But peeps...it was so expensive!!  The most I've ever spent on bedding.  But...the heart wants what the heart wants!!  I finally....after months of indecision...went ahead & ordered it!  Gulp.  It only hurt for a minute...and I have no regrets.  In the warmer months, I plan to use a white Matelasse coverlet...and lay the comforter across the bottom of the bed...

I will just make price adjustments elsewhere...like on cushion covers.  I have an idea for a neck roll cushion, if I decide I want to place one on the bed  These are 20 x 20....and match the bedskirt. I would have preferred larger...26 x 26...but they weren't available...so I compromised...if I decide I want more oomph....I'll order another set....and use three in front of the shams....

For the rooster cushions...I chose these covers in 18 x 18  size, I think will look amazing.  I prefer the lighter background rather than the black shown in the inspiration photo...

I plan to source bedroom decor at thrift stores, Home Sense & Michaels.  So that is the direction I'm going in for our bedroom refresh.

Liesel continues convalescing in her pen in the family room.  Yesterday was a bit of a setback...she was much more sore and immobile than we'd seen in previous days.  We suspect she may have over extended either her paw or shoulder in her bedtime crate the night before....as we heard a loud yelp during the night.  She had been down to receiving one pain medication twice daily....we've increased to an additional medication for the next few days.  We plan to see how she does the remainder of the week.....if we don't see or feel she has improved....we will touch base with our veterinarian.  We've been advised that injuries and conditions such as hers....can take weeks into months of healing.  There is also the option of doing some acupuncture to alleviate her discomfort.

Finally we will be heading into March!  Which means just another month of winter here & spring is just a day on the calendar!  But the days are getting longer...so there is that.  I'm sure we will have a few more snowstorms yet before we have another winter in the books.

I'm looking forward to shopping for the replacement for the wood pellet stove!  Excited to see what is available and options for switching from the pellets to propane!  And...I'm working on Mr. Seventies to have a heat pump installed.  The perfect spot for one, what I consider to be an ugly heat vent...is at the end of our hallway.  Our main living space is small enough...a heat pump would provide additional heat in the winter months...and air conditioning during the summer months.  For now...I've just put the bug in his ear.  At one time there were incentive grants available for anyone having heat pumps installed...not certain if that is still available but will look into it and the criteria.

A heartfelt thank you for stopping by & visiting with me today.

I'll be hanging out and sharing over at Between Naps on the Porch later and A Stroll Thru Life on Tuesday!!

Liesel Update

Just wanted to pop in with a quick update on our girl.  It became apparent quickly she would require a larger area to safely recuperate and move around with a bit more ease than her crate.  While her crate(s) are medium wire size...with her limited mobility it would have been difficult for her to get situated comfortably.  I ordered an x pen through a local pet supply store and picked it up a couple of days ago...

This morning she is able to put a little weight on her leg...although in the photo her full weight is on the right leg.  We are seeing improvement...as the veterinarian advised....but another 9-10 days of rest and recovery are required.  She is hurting less...with pain medications...and is more comfortable.  She is back to sleeping in her crate in our bedroom at night...and spends her days in the x pen.  With a bit of snuggle time with Mama on the couch...she still requires physical cuddles and attention.

My dear nephew and his wife have said good bye to their French bulldog, Daisy.  Poor little one had undergone two back surgeries...and lost an eye in January due to a herniated retina.  She began showing symptoms of yet another back issue...and they made the difficult decision to let her be at peace.  They are beyond devastated...and baby brother Dozer will be lost without his big sister.   Sometimes we have to put our own wants aside and remember what is best for our fur family members.

The cold temperatures have returned with bitter windchills and winds.  I could hear the wind roaring during the night...but our snow has melted a great deal!  Fingers crossed no storms in the forecast yet.

With Liesel requiring all of our attention...I've done little in the way of home decor or shopping.  I do plan to do a bedroom refresh in the coming weeks...the evenings are getting longer and I can't wait to shed heavy bedding....and warmer clothes.

Hope this post finds everyone well today.  Thanks so much for stopping by & spending a bit of your time with me.

Events Of The Last Couple of Days!

It's been a worrisome few days here with Liesel...after a short walk the other day...she began to display lameness in her front left leg and chest area.  She was still able to walk, put weight on it...but with a limp. By bed time, she was in a great deal of pain...and unable to stand, yelping & shaking.  I administered pain medication before midnight...to get us through the night.

Very early the next morning...she was being attended to at our veterinary hospital.  With Covid restrictions, we were not able to accompany her inside...but rather they came to our vehicle and retrieved her.  She was sedated, x rayed and blood work done.  The x ray revealed osteoarthritis in her left shoulder and joint in her leg.  (bloodwork was excellent).   We were able to bring her home, with two pain medications and she is on strict rest for the next fourteen days.  The x ray showed a "hazy' spot on the joint...a follow up x ray has been ordered for one month to see if that is anything of significance.   Her appetite is not great...but we're able to keep her hydrated.  We should start to see an improvement in 3-4 days.  It's heartbreaking when your fur-kid is sick...but we are doing all we can to get her well and pain free.

A few days before Liesel's episode I popped into Home Sense....the Easter decor is not as plentiful as other years...but I'm crushing on this carrot door decoration!   Easter here can be wintery....with winds...so I didn't see this as lasting on our front door....as it's very lightweight...but it is adorable!

And bunches of carrots....and carrot garlands...

And a few Rae Dunn pieces...I do love the birdhouses!!  I think the Home one is my favourite...

Along with a couple with Welcome....

And adorable treat filled mugs...great gifts....

And an assortment of great lunch/snack bags!  These are very well made...and would be excellent for packing a lunch for work or travel....

I'm in love with this bunny statue...and the butterfly on the nose!  A-d-o-r-a-b-l-e!!

As I mentioned, there wasn't an abundance of Easter decor...I'm not big on decorating for Easter.  I have a few of my cherished bunnies.  I'll have Mr. Seventies retrieve the tote that holds them in a few weeks.   We're still a few weeks away from celebrating....

One event fast approaching is grand baby's birthday!  There is an amazing local lady who makes delicious cookies in just about any shape or theme you can think of!  When I saw these ones...I knew I had to order a dozen for a certain birthday celebration!  This is a sample photo...the ones ordered will be personalized.  You have to get your order in very early...as she fills up fast...so I was sure to get an order in well in advance....

And....from PEI to you...

It's a long weekend with stores and work closed for many to enjoy a family day!  I hope you celebrate wherever you are!  We planned to share with family here...but suspect with Liesel not feeling her best...we will have a quiet day at home!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

New To Me!!

Let's just preface this post by advising I do own a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.  Have had it for years...so long in fact....there were only a few basic colours available then.  There is nothing wrong with it...it works like the day it came out of the box...and along with the stainless steel bowl...I have a glass one as well.  Which comes in handy when mixing up more than one recipe.  But it's red.

There is really no reason I "need" one in a different colour...except when I saw this...on FB Marketplace...in the colour Apple Green... (I have been obsessed with finding one).    Or Buttercup Yellow...neither of which are available....either out of stock...or not selling anywhere currently...in store or online.

I stumbled across this beauty...on FB Marketplace...in New Brunswick.  Minor hiccup.  It's located in New Brunswick...

Just to give you an idea how hard it is to find this gorgeous colour...check out this listing on eBay!!  Keep in mind...my location is Canada...$1,014.84 is the price in Canadian funds.  Not to forget the $177.68 for shipping.  The seller accepts offers....but I guarantee if offered $200...it would be declined fairly fast...

So when I came across the listing....it put the wheels in motion.  I have a friend in the same city where the mixer was being sold.  One quick message to her...and she was on board with meeting the seller...and just like that...it's in her vehicle...one step closer to me!  She reports it is in immaculate condition...barely used.  I have all the attachments, bowl guard & cover and various attachments...so none of that was needed.  Isn't it beautiful?

Rather than package it...and pay through the nose to ship it through Canada Post...(it weighs about 25 pounds)...she is sending it via bus!  If shipped in the morning....it arrives here later the same day.  I will receive a call to pick it up at the bus depot!  I've sent many parcels and packages to my daughter in Nova Scotia (and vice versa)...and it's a great way to ship and receive items!  For less money or comparable...

So, in case you are wondering the cost of this beauty?  Less than $200!  Even if shipping cost is $50...it is still worth the price!  And I will pass my current Kitchen Aid to my daughter in Nova Scotia (daughter here has one).  Everybody wins!  And I owe a debt of gratitude to my friend...when travel is completely safe...she and I have a full day of shopping & dining out planned!  Oh...and she is proud Mom to four dachshunds, Fergie, Charlotte, Grace and Bijou.  Another reason to love her to bits.

It's the little things people...and this fun colour mixer makes me so happy!  I swear it has more power than my first vehicle.

No post would be complete without grumbling about the weather...so here goes.  On top of this latest snow accumulation...we now have a "Special Weather Statement" in effect for tomorrow night into Friday night.  And it's coming in rain...and freezing rain.  20-40 mm of rain.  And 80-110 km/hr winds!  Enuf said.

I've said many times...I don't think this Island was meant to be inhabited!  When we get winter....we really get winter!  I'm so hoping for a long, hot, dry summer!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!  Feel free to leave a comment...I'd love to hear from you!

Stormy Valentine's Day!!

Wishing everyone a day full of laughter and love!  And..we are getting another snow storm!!  There is a snowfall warning in effect forecasting 15 to 25 cm and winds to pick up around noon time.   Such is life on the East coast!  Winter is in full force...lots of wind and precipitation!

But that's okay...it's Valentine's Day!  Mr. Seventies gifted me a sweet bouquet of ivory roses...my absolute favourite colour!  These ones have a bit of pinkish tinge to them...which makes them even prettier.  And they were accompanied with a beautiful card...and chocolates!  Not to mention my bench he previously purchased for my vanity room...me thinks he spoils me!

Not to worry....he's enjoying his Valentine treats of Hershey kisses, chocolates...and his favourite liquorice!

My blueberry Blundstone boots arrived...and they are amazing!  So comfortable....they are suede leather...which I love as my other pairs are plain leather...

I've been in need for a pair of walking sneakers and couldn't be happier with these ones!  I always look for ones that have a memory foam foot bed.  I'm currently wearing my old ones, when weather permits and the snow has melted enough...I'll start wearing these.   It is coming...right?

And I ordered this pretty peplum spring tee...anyone else dreaming of warmer days??  The embroidery is just so colourful....

I came across a couple of pretty cushion covers for the main bedroom....I have feather fillers for them...and am craving anything spring right now....

And this beauty, is adorable.  Perfect to set on the bed with the embroidered one in the previous photo...

And I can't resist sharing another little beauty...she was just laying with her toy...looking all adorable.  I love the expression on her face....

Schools, government and businesses are currently delaying opening or closing altogether for the day...most I presume are waiting to see if the winds pick up.  Snow is one thing...but when it starts to get blown around...visibility decreases rapidly....and no one likes to be caught on the roads when that happens.

I hope you have a lovely Valentine's Day!  We plan to spend it snuggled by a warm fire.  Thank you for stopping by....great to have you here.

Sharing today over at Between Naps on the Porch, Metamorphis Monday!

Feeling A Bit Sheepish

Remember the adorable sheep canvas I ordered a little while back?  This one...

So....this arrived in the mail the other day....an empty envelope sleeve.  Not certain why it was empty....but nonetheless there was nothing inside....

I went back to the listing....and peeps....it pays to read those thoroughly....as clearly it states...

Size: Each Canvas Panel Is 50cm X 70cm (19 X 27Inches), Total 1 Panel. Panel does not include a frame.

I didn't catch that last part...I highlighted it here.  Somehow I missed that!!

Since the envelope was empty...the seller refunded immediately.  I dodged a bullet...so to speak.  I will be more vigilant in the future....and read listings thoroughly!!

Lesson learned.

New Family Room Lamps and Winter Coffee Bar

The new family room lamps arrived....and although ordered from different shops....appeared on the same day!  How is that for timing... considering delayed deliveries with storms and bridge closures. Maybe I should purchase lottery tickets?

And....the order from Simons arrived...and I couldn't be happier.  As expected, I switched out the fibre fill cushions inside the covers for feather ones....the covers are amazing quality with the hidden zipper.  I folded the throw over the sofa....it is so soft and luxurious...and huge!  I haven't set the basket I ordered out yet...will do that in the coming days.  Before my order arrived, I washed and dried all the feather cushion inserts...so they are fresh and clean before being covered.   The turquoise covers I had previous....

I've been on the hunt for a tray for a bit of a winter coffee bar....and look what I came across on FB Marketplace!!  Exactly what I had in mind!!

We like having coffee pods, tea bags, sugar,  and mugs all in one spot!  These brown pottery mugs I previously purchased are perfect size!  They are my favourite...and although not dishwasher safe...they are microwave safe.  Mr. Seventies is using his dachshund Valentine mug gifted from a few years ago....it holds a large mug of coffee!!  And since it's still winter....the pottery snowman mugs still get called into service!!

Yesterday, we had rain....on top of all the snow we have!  Makes for a mess of slush for sure.  Just hoping we get a breather from storms for a while.

I made a fresh batch of heart shape waffles...each batch gives me 13-14 waffles!  Once they are cooled...I store them in zip lock bags in the freezer!  So easy to pop a couple in the toaster to add to breakfast or for a snack!  I'm loving my little waffle maker!!  I made a batch earlier for grand baby...she enjoys them as well!

Today is grocery order pick up!  Grocery shopping is my least favourite thing to do...to order on line & pick up...is perfect for us.  What was old is new again....as a child, I remember my mother calling in a grocery order and it being delivered in brown paper bags & boxes.  Just the way ours are packed now.  (Plastic bags have been banned here for a few years now).  Delivery is available for a fee....but since the store is 3 km from our house....it's not a big deal to stop & have them set the order in the back of the SUV.

I'm planning to get out & about in the shops in the next few days....before the weekend.  Valentines Day is Monday.....have your shopped for your sweetie yet?

Have an awesome day wherever you are.  Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Walloped Again!!

Mother Nature is not giving us a break this winter!  It started snowing Thursday evening...and didn't stop until Saturday evening!  The winds were not as fierce with this snow... as it was not a Nor'Easter which is a storm that travels north from the eastern seaboard.  Usually bringing with it high winds.  This was a westerly storm...less winds...but packed a powerful punch of precipitation.  Some parts of the Maritimes had hours of freezing rain and ice pellets....we received snow.  Lots of it.  About 50 cm worth...

Another shot of our side lawn...the snow banks are dangerously high....making it hazardous for driving...having to inch your way around them before pulling out into traffic....

One of Liesel's paths to an area Mr. Seventies shovels out for her....

And to the left of that path....the vegetable garden is buried under all that snow....

Our neighbour uses his snow blower to clean out an area for Liesel on the other side of our property...he is such a great guy to do this for her.  He does one for their dog, Luna as well...so he continues on to our property and blows out an area and path for her....

Needless to say...everything came to a standstill for a couple of days.  I've been hearing reports of low stock in our grocery chains...likely everything will be restocked over the next few days.  We did get to enjoy an evening with grand baby & family....along with a delicious meal of spagetti & meatballs.

Today Liesel has a spa treatment...and while she is being pampered I will run a couple of errands.  Other than that....life has been pretty quiet here at our Seventies Split.

I hope you have an awesome day & really appreciate you stopping by!  Stay safe.

It's Friday!!

And yet another weekend snow storm!!  25 to 45 cm snowfall warning.  It started snowing last evening...and will continue until tomorrow.    While snow and wind are the norm...freezing rain & ice pellets are a whole other mess...and they are in the mix as well.  Gotta love it here....

On the bright side...we don't have concern for falling iguanas.  Just saying....

I stopped into Michael's the other day...expecting to see a plethora of Valentine, Easter and spring decor.  Huge let down...the shelves are mostly empty.  I'm assuming it's a supply issue...and the store is taking advantage by reorganizing the shelves.  In the meantime...very little to check out...

Remember when I had these canisters in pink?  Before the shelf in the main bath came crashing down and smashed them all?  They are back in a pretty cream colour...and when they go on BOGO or sale....I'll pick up a couple...now that Mr. Seventies has the shelf safely secured to the wall.  Last time, one of the actual hangers on the back of the shelf left go...lesson learned.

And this adorable little bag would look cute on the shelf as well...am considering it when it goes on sale...

I'm pretty certain our location of Home Sense is the least stocked store in the Maritimes.  A friend and fellow dachshund owner is a huge shopper at Home Sense...and she posts amazing items she picks up at her local store...and when I check here...we have nothing.  For example...Valentine decor in our store...consists of about six red wreaths, a few tea towels and the odd mug or two. Yawn.

And Easter...I'm thinking it's the fact it's early yet is the reason for the lack of decor.  One little area...consisting of two shelves...housed Easter decor.  The odd bunny or two (and you all know I love bunnies).  Only items to catch my eye were these adorable ducks...

Would be adorable to use in a table scape setting, if you are into that sort of thing.  Nothing I love more than a beautifully decorated table...

I am planning to do a winter tiered tray and coffee area...but am having difficulty finding what I want.  I've been on the hunt for a metal farmhouse tray...rarer than hen's teeth around here.  I'll keep on the hunt...there is one that may be suitable I came across on FB marketplace....

That's about it for today...we're going to hunker down and barrel through this storm.  The winds are picking up...schools are closed...roads and visibility are becoming an issue.

In the meantime...we're going to have a great weekend & wish everyone the same!  Thanks so much for stopping by!!
