New Home Decor Shop Visit

My neighbour and I visited a new local home decor shop on Friday.  While it was lovely, items well displayed...both she and I admitted it wasn't our "cup of tea"...so to speak.  I'll let the photos speak for themselves...

While it looks like a large shop....the door you see on the left, under the awning is the opening...and the shop is located on the bottom left corner.  The remainder of the building is used for other avenues...we think dance classes (currently closed)...and possible other available retail space.

There was nothing that really appealed to me...but I can certainly see where a certain clientele, designers and home stagers would be suited for what the shop carries.  And the prices...again just my opinion....over priced.  Not certain if you can see those little white square items on the left side of the table...those are candles.   With tax about $20....each.

If you are into greys and browns...and pottery...there is an "earthy" vibe to the shop...then you'd be right at home.  I'm pretty certain Home Sense has nothing to worry about.  But to each his own.  There are some who have a strong dislike for Home Sense, Winners and Marshalls.   Noted.   I'll stay in my lane....

Upon leaving the store...we headed to Home Sense.  Ahhh....like coming home.  I picked up the mug from a previous post, for my oldest daughter...and my friend picked up a gorgeous fabric & leather cushion for her new leather set on order!  The set was ordered before Christmas...with a six to seven month wait period.  How crazy is that?  Once it arrives....I've warned I will visit to drool over it.

We then popped into Winners....and I came across a small leather backpack/purse...on clearance.  I've had two Coach leather backpack bags over the years....and love that I'm able to sling on my back...as opposed to hanging off my shoulder or across my body.   It was available in two colours...I chose the reddish pecan colour....or there was a brown one available as well.  And a leather change purse was included...

And the back straps are fully adjustable...just by sliding the buckles.  And the bag is buttery soft leather....and the perfect size.  I don't carry a lot when I'm out & about...wallet, cell phone, mask & small container of Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer....

Now Simons online is more my jam!  Anyone not familiar with Simons...they are a Canadian company...with brick & mortar stores...as well as online.  Since we don't have a physical store...online is my only option.  I've ordered over the years...and have always been very happy with my items.

And currently they are having a sale...and I came across a basket I've been wanting for a while now.  I've seen them in shops here...but not at the price I was eager to spend for the size I wanted....until now...great basket to hold extra throws....

And speaking of throws....this one is gorgeous!  It comes in a variety of colours... I ordered the mustard colour ...does it not look incredibly soft and luxurious?  Velvety...I'm such a pushover for throws.....and cushions....one can never have too many of either....

And speaking of cushions...pretty spring time flowers!!  These are actual cushions...fibre filled.  I will be zipping off the covers and replacing the fibre with my feather cushions...they will be much softer and plumper.  The reverse side is a cream colour...

I am in need of some pretty, spring colours after dealing with our third snow storm this month!  It was windy and wild here Saturday...with an additional 37-40 cm of snow added to the ever growing mounds we have now!  Some areas of the Island lost power with the high winds...and visibility was zero...and plows were taken off the roads until late Saturday night.  Yesterday was clean up day...and again...our sidewalks are buried.

Tomorrow is a brand new month, right?  Happy to say bye-bye to January...although I admit it did go by rather quickly...for January.

Thanks so much for spending a little bit of your day with me!  Restrictions are eased here as of today...schools are re-opening at least for the time being.   Have an awesome day wherever you are today!!

Early Valentine Gift

I was chatting with Mr. Seventies....and in conversation I mentioned the velvet bench for my vanity room.  And after considerable thought...I decided it was perfect and planned to pick it up.   I even showed him photos on my phone...to give him an idea of what I intended to purchase.

To my surprise...he stated it would be an early Valentine present from him to me!  Heck, ya!   Beats roses (although I do love those too) any day!!  As I was heading to Home Sense...I was hoping the bench I wanted would still be there...as they had two in my preferred colour!

As I rounded the corner, in the store....my heart sank.  The only bench on display was a dark, olive green one.  I had left my decision too long....that's the way it is at Home Sense.  Second thoughts do not guarantee second chances.  Since I was in the store...I decided to browse about...and around the corner...up on a shelf no less...look what if found!!

I was doing such a happy dance...(in my head, of course)!  It was meant to be!!  It was sitting next to a navy one...which I liked as well...but it was much smaller....

Sometimes...the stars line up....and things work out as they were meant to be!  It was early evening when Mr. Seventies brought it in from our vehicle and set it in my room...I snapped a couple of quick photos...lighting is not great...

I need to centre it on the rug and under neath the window a bit better....but I am loving it!!  And it matches with the colours in the rug!   Since the room was painted and new base mouldings and lighting installed, I haven't done much more with the room.  I've been waiting to find that just right piece.  A couple of other small decor items are needed...my neighbour and I plan to scope out the new home decor store that opened a few days ago.  Maybe I will find a couple of pieces there....

And the walking boots I ordered arrived and they are so comfortable!  I couldn't be happier...they are easy to slip on & off....have great traction and are just what I was searching for.  Due to the cold temperatures, Liesel and I haven't had gotten much walking time in...but I've worn them out & about...and give them two thumbs up.  They are Clark's if anyone is interested....leather outer...and while not lined...I'm able to wear a thicker sock and my feet are toasty warm....

Another thing I picked up, while at Home Sense...was an adorable mug.  There was only one...I'm hopeful they will bring in another...so I can gift one to each daughter.   Oh that Karma...she's a witty one!!

And how about my adorable Valentine nails?  I have a new nail tech...and she is an absolute doll!!  I show her photos of what I have in mind...and she is game for anything!!

And....it's almost the weekend!  You know what that means, right?   Another winter storm is forecasted!!  It's been a couple of weeks...so let's end January with yet another Nor'easter!  This one predicting more rain & ice pellets....along with snow and winds.  So a real mess is headed our way!  The weatherman is predicting we will get less snow than other parts of the Island.. I'm going to hold him to it!

Have a great weekend where you are and thanks for stopping by!  Take care of one another & stay safe out there!!  Until next time....

Wednesday Catch Up

I've had a couple of chances to use the new little waffle maker....and it is awesome!  So easy to use....and the waffles are delicious!  It came with a recipe booklet...and various ideas for other uses...such as heart shape omelettes...and cookie dough waffles...cannot wait to experiment!  I made a batch for grand baby...so easy to freeze and pop in the toaster for breakfast or a snack!   From one batch I was able to make ten waffles!!

The other day, while waiting for prescription refill, I popped into Home Sense...since it is close by.  And that is never good...as I always fall in love with something.  I've been looking for a bench for my vanity room for months now....and I am crushing on this one so hard....(there are two stacked in this photo).....and there is an olive green one as well.  The mustard colour is gorgeous...more so than in the photo...I'm strongly considering getting one.  Mr. Seventies insist I wait until my birthday...but they will be long gone by then...and we all know things never last in Home Sense!    The only minor drawback....the top does not lift for storage inside.  But I'm mulling it over....

And of course, Valentine sweetness is everywhere!  An adorable mug and cover (and I did not purchase)....but who doesn't love a doxie...riding a bike?

I've been crushing on these lamps for months!  No really....months.  Waiting for them to go on sale.  They haven't.  I pulled the trigger....and ordered two! Is anyone else like that?  Sometimes I don't think twice...other times I need to really want something! If they were unavailable...then it wasn't meant to be.  But...they were saved in my wish list and available long enough!!

It was necessary to order from two different websites...but I had a gift card for one site...that helped a little...as they are a bit on the pricey side!  But they are perfect....26" in height and darker shades as opposed to white for the family room.  And the ginger jar shape...and a worn, rustic feel to them!  Cannot wait for them to arrive!

And.....yet another "special weather statement"....also known as a potential snow storm...for the weekend!  It would be awesome if the system went to the south of us...and missed us altogether...but I'm doubtful that will happen.

I'm hoping you have a wonderful day!  Thanks so much for stopping by...I've added a follow button at the top of the page...since google discontinued the subscribe feature.  Let me know if it's working...I'd love to have you hang out with me for a bit!!  Stay safe!!

Just January

Is it just me....or does January seem to be dragging on forever.  It is one of the coldest, darkest times of the year and I'm always looking forward to February.  It's a shorter month and a step closer to spring!   Although spring here is just a day on the calendar.

Okay, enough with the grumbling...it hasn't been all bad.  Look at the adorable waffle maker I purchased (curb side pick up)!!  Mr. Seventies was a bit skeptical...we made a batch over the weekend...and they were delicious!  The included recipe states it will make four waffles...but in reality it makes double that!  We just love it.  I plan to put together a batch for grand baby...they can be frozen & popped in the toaster!  Much tastier (and healthier) than the frozen ones sold in the grocery store.  And they are heart shaped!!

Due to rising numbers of Covid here and restrictions in the stores....I haven't been out and about much the past couple of weeks.  Even shopping for necessities is a bit more challenging...as the grocery chains cannot offer pick up...shortage of staff.  This is not disclosed until you get your order done...and attempt to check out and available times for pick up....are not available.  A call to the store & it was explained due to staff shortages.  I recommended they place that fact on their website!

When restrictions are in place....either Mr. Seventies or myself will pick up the things we need.  Such is life at the moment.

With the break in cold temperatures...we've managed to get out with Liesel for a couple of short walks.  I've been struggling to find winter footwear for walking...that isn't heavy but still provides warmth and good traction.  I came across these boots from Clark's...so I ordered a pair.

A couple of features I like...they appear to have a good tread, leather construction...and although laces are available...easy open and closure with a zipper.  I ordered the Burgundy colour...and will update my findings once they arrive and I have a chance to test them out...

And doesn't Liesel look impressed with her snood?  I mentioned previously she panics when outside in the wind, during storms.  We attempted to wrap a small scarf around her head...but that was a huge fail.  I think she will wear the snood and be okay having her head & ears protected during snow storms.  During colder months...she has a variety of wraps, hoodies and sweaters...and if is okay with wearing them.  I'm very pleased with the thick knitted quality....

And lastly...you know I have a thing for cows.....and sheep.  I couldn't resist this adorable canvas...call me crazy.  It's adorable and whimsical...and I'll share when it arrives where it will be displayed...

No storms in the forecast yet...let's hope we get a bit of a reprieve for the next week or so.  Wouldn't mind a January thaw in the meantime.

Stay safe where you are today & I so appreciate you spending a bit of time with me.  Have an awesome day!!

New Wardrobe Pieces

The corduroy Ensley quilted jacket I ordered...arrived the other day.....and there isn't anything I don't love about this jacket!  The fabric is the softest corduroy...and the fit is perfect. Underneath the buttons...are snaps that give the jacket extra closure and two generous pockets.  Most of the time....I have great success ordering clothes & footwear online.  I do know folks who don't and must try everything on first...but trying on clothes in a small dressing room is my least favourite thing to do!  And online...the world is a shopping mall!

Blundstone came out with a new boot colour...Blueberry!  I saw them online a few months ago...and I did not order a pair.  I should have ordered them then, as they have been difficult to find in my size!  Mainly sold out.  I'm a huge fan of these boots...owing two pair...one in black and the other in Burgundy.  I've been crushing hard on the Blueberry ones...and finally have been able to order them!   I cannot wait for them to arrive!

This adorable tee shirt arrived in the mail a few days ago!  I tried to order it...but it was sold out in my size a.  A fellow dachshund enthusiast in New Brunswick (and also a friend) sent it to me!  How cute is it?  She is Mom to four dachshunds...one who happens to be named Charlotte!

I order quite a bit from Shein....and have great success!  Their quality and pricing on the items I have ordered have been amazing.  Again...I'm really good at choosing my size...depending on how I want things to fit...this gorgeous sweater looks awesome with jeans or leggings....my go to pieces.  Because it is a roomy fit....I sized down...and it fits beautifully.  Very soft & cozy...with the cold days we've been having.

This sweater is the softest sweater I've ever felt!  And the colour is so pretty...I like to pair this with the white puffer vest I purchased a few weeks back...

Remember the black jeans from an earlier post?  They come in other colours...and since they are such an amazing fit...I decided to get a dark denim blue pair...and they fit at nice as the black ones!

Please don't think I'm crazy for ordering this next piece...but who doesn't need a bit of whimsy in their wardrobe!  And grand baby loves to count the mushrooms!  I wear a tee shirt or cami underneath...I just couldn't resist the mushrooms!!  Think of it as an ugly non Christmas sweater.  But I luv it!

This wrap piece is going to be perfect for light spring and fall temperatures!  Photos don't do it justice...it is so pretty and a great weight and fit!

And this just about describes me to a tee (shirt)...and I'm looking forward to warmer summer days when I can wear this with capris and shorts.  Just a fun tee shirt...and the colour is so pretty...

And this is a ribbed dress...since I'm fairly tall I add a wide belt & wear it with skinny jeans or leggings.  And it has pockets!! Who doesn't love pockets??  The photo does not do this justice...it looks fantastic on and is very comfortable...

So those are the pieces I have collected in the past few weeks.  The Merino wool cap I shared a few posts back is on it's way...I'm excited to receive it.

We're having a twenty four hour reprieve from the cold then we head back into the deep freeze for a couple more days!  Liesel & I have not been able to get out for a walk since last Friday.  Our sidewalk is finally plowed...but covered in ice.  My friend wears grippers on her boots for walking!  Ya...any day I need grippers to walk...I'm not going.  And it's been too cold to enjoy walking anyways!

Hope you have an awesome day!  Please stay safe...we are in the midst of a semi-lockdown with cases of Covid on the rise daily.  Another reason I prefer to shop online...it's safer.  Thanks so much for stopping by & spending time with me!  See you again soon.

Jenny Lind Wood Bed Frame

Look what arrived.....from Wayfair...nearly one week early!  The new Jenny Lind bed frame for the guest bedroom!  I was excited when tracking revealed it was to be delivered the end of last week (as opposed to earlier estimated arrival of January 20, 2022).

Since it was late in the afternoon....we stood the box in the hallway...to tackle setting it up the next day!  The box was a bit battered....but everything inside was well packed and nothing broken....

As awesome as this bed is...it did not come without it's challenges putting it together.  Mr. Seventies is a pro as putting anything together...and this bed frame caused a certain amount of frustration.  Partly due to the wrong size wrench accompanying the bed...intended for use to put it together.  A very specific width of wrench is required...and the one sent...was too small.  And the wrench Mr. Seventies had in his tool box was too thick.  But, having the patience of a saint...he prevailed...and after about four hours....the bed was together!

And I'm so in love with it!  I am going to remove & replace the sign over the bed...but in the meantime....

I couldn't be happier with the quality of the frame...and it arrived in perfect condition....always a chance something could be damaged in shipping.  Don't let the rays of light fool you...it is not sun but lighting...

And all this done...while we had, yet another raging snowstorm going on outside!  Two huge storms within a week of each other.  The Island basically shut down for about 24 hours....the bridge to PEI was closed to all traffic (and that only happens when winds are high & visibility is poor)....and all road plows were pulled off from Friday night until Sunday.

Some areas lost power....we were prepared but fortunate ours remained on.  And as luck would have it....we had severe windchills on Sunday...making it difficult for anyone needing to shovel.  Mr. Seventies had the walks to shovel...and waited until it warmed up a bit in the afternoon.   I'll share a few photos I took of the 40+ cm this latest storm dumped on us...

After the front walk was cleared out....

The steps from the pool deck to the back yard...completely buried....

After Mr. Seventies cleared the steps and walkway....

Due to the high winds of 100 km/hr or more...there was a great deal of drifting...this is our side lawn....I'm standing in the driveway....

And sidewalks are currently non-existent...it will take days for them to be cleared out...this photo is taken looking up the road from the end our our driveway.  When our snow removal contractor came to blow out the driveway (in a huge tractor with a blower attachment)....it was slow going.  He does an amazing job every winter keeping our drive cleared out...coming around numerous times...blowing snow away after the road plows have gone by & pushed it into the driveway as well.  The sidewalk is buried underneath all the snow!

And this snow in the pool...is what we will be swimming in come warmer weather...so thank you Mother Nature for that...

The holly wreath Mr. Seventies put together in December is still thriving at the back door....we left it up...and it is covered in snow....

They were asking people, once the storm had passed to stay at home and give snow crews time to clear roads and parking lots.  Our neighbour, used his snowblower and blew a path and area for Liesel...she is very thankful to him for doing that.

We have two areas now cleared out for her...she was such a good girl when being taken outside during the storm...she is very scared of the wind...and panics.  She wears a sweater or wrap underneath her harness...but I'm hoping once of these adorable snoods will calm her fear a bit....if her head is a bit covered.   Or she may hate me for life...either way...will give a snood a try....

So, that's the latest installment of Snowmageddon 2022!   Here's hoping we get a bit of a reprieve from Old Man Winter for a few weeks at least!

I have some awesome clothing pieces to share with you...I spent a couple of days doing a major purge and closet clean out...and you know what that means?  More room for more clothes!!

Have an awesome day & thanks so much for sharing a bit of time with me.

Another Blast of Winter On It's Way!

If nothing else...we Maritimers can always talk (and complain) about our weather!  We are forecast to get walloped again...another snow storm is a coming!  Overnight Friday and most of the day Saturday...25 to 35 cm of snow with 100 km/hr winds.   Nothing to see here folks...just a good old fashioned storm.  Good we are a hearty bunch!

Storms put people in a food buying frenzy..it's like we are never going to eat again!  I think it stems from years ago...when there was  not the snow removal equipment we have now....if a storm dumped a vast amount of snow....power outages were a common occurrence for long periods of time and it took much longer to get roadways and homes cleared.  So people tended to stock up pre-storms!   And that still carries true today....along with making sure our cell phones, tablets & laptops are fully charged.  I purchased a battery operated radio a couple of years ago...to keep updated in the event of a power outage.

See?  We can always chat about the weather!  And...the current temp, as I type...sits at -20 below....with a windchill of -27 C.  It's been cold for the past couple of days...but it will have to warm up to snow.  So...there is that good news.

Despite the cold....Liesel and I did a bit of retail therapy and browsing...she's not a huge fan of shopping...but it's good to get her out and about since it's too cold to go for our walks.

Liesel spotted a new toy she was very excited about...not that there's a toy shortage in her toy box!

I could not resist picking up this statue for my nephew & his wife...who have two French Bulldogs!  They have recently moved from Ontario & currently building a new home in Nova Scotia.  One of their beloved Frenchies had surgery last week...and sadly lost her left eye!  Daisy already required extensive back surgery (twice) when they resided in Ontario....and thankfully fully recovered.

The eye loss was due to an ulcer...which may have been the result of an injury while playing with her brother Dozer.  Daisy is a very rugged, rough & tumble kind of gal...she loves to wrestle and play.   She is currently recuperating from surgery (albeit it wearing a cone to protect the eye)...and doing amazing.  I couldn't pass up on this....with only one available!!

Please keep Daisy & her family in your thoughts and prayers. We are a family of dog lovers...if that was not evident...they are very important members of our families.

It was tempting to pick up this Rae Dunn bowl for Liesel.....had it been smaller!  Good heavens..she could swim in this bowl!  But it is so cute....

And in keeping with the dachshund goodness...how about this adorable mug..and socks!!  The were a set..an adorable mug...and socks!  There was a time they would have gone in my cart...but we have an abundance of dachshund mugs...and dachshund everything.

I thought this little sectional was perfect size for a small space!  Not everyone lives in a mega-mansion with huge rooms...and finally they are making furniture for those with smaller rooms and condos!  It was the cushions too that I fell in love with!! (pun intended).

And this chair...the prettiest shade of green.  Hard to capture in a photo...they also had two of them...and they are gorgeous.  The legs aren't red btw...that is wrap to protect the mahogany stained legs....

And Valentine goodies are making their annual appearance!  How about these gorgeous heart shaped baking dishes?

Oh I wanted to pick this up for grand baby!  How adorable is this little crate & puppy set?  The tag stated it was for visits to the vet!  The age range was older than she is so I didn't purchase it.  As well, her fur brother, Benson would have torn the stuffed toy to shreds.  All plush toys need to be kept out of his paws!

I love that Liesel can tag along with me to stores that allow dogs...and Home Sense is just one of many that allows them!  The list of stores is growing...and we are very happy to see that.  We would never leave her unattended in our vehicle.  If she can't come in,  she stays home or one of us stay in the car with her.

I have a couple of small clothing orders on the way....Joe Fresh was having an amazing sale on sleep pants..and with Covid and staying home more....one can never have to many sleep pants!

Have an awesome day....maybe if they talk enough about this storm....it will miss us altogether!  Wishful thinking....
