Monday Catch Up

We've been out & about to garden centres...and working around the yard & gardens. Mr. Seventies had a few yards of compost delivered and spent a couple of days getting it spread in the flower and vegetable gardens. He decided to till the veggie garden...it finally stopped raining for a few days.  We have potatoes & onions planted so far....

We took a short drive to a beautiful garden centre and country market...Mr. Seventies picked up a couple more perennials....while I browsed the market area...first beautiful item to catch my eye was the gorgeous hummingbird cushion...

And only that our back entry is too small...this adorable hooked mat would have come home with me...it would have fit if it was laid vertically...but that isn't the look I wanted...

And of course....bees are everywhere and on everything it seems...adorable...and the little bee covered glasses...I didn't even notice the wall decor in the back...with a large bee in the centre...

And this cute planter was so tempting....

I'm crushing hard on this platter...which was available in two sizes...this was the larger of the two...(and bottles of honey available of course)...

How cute are these owl cushions?  Would look so cute sitting on a bed...or sofa...

I had a chuckle when I saw this adorable sign...hopefully I'm fairly good at both!!

I decided to join Mr. Seventies in the garden centre...I took a couple of videos...a gorgeous water fall...with fish in the pond...and I've tried numerous times to upload them from my phone to share...to no avail.  I've resized the files, attempted to email them, upload them...and nothing is working.   And....I didn't get photos...which sucks.  But I did get a couple to share...this beautiful gazebo...oh and the fragrance of the flowers was amazing...

The garden centre is huge....with flowers and plants both indoors and out...you can see the water fountain in the background in this photo....

This is an indoor plant...I thought it was so interesting...and pretty...have no idea what it is...

We decided to venture to a green house in the city...which was having a sale...with a bountiful selection of annuals, potted flowers, perennials, trees, shrubs and so on.  I spotted a gorgeous two coloured peony (its a double bloom)...but Mr. Seventies said we had no room left in our gardens for another peony...since we have four already.

I left him to peruse the perennials while I went inside to check out the annuals...and before long he joined me...carrying the peony!  He said we'd make room for it since I loved it so much!!  I pulled out the photo stake before he planted  it...how gorgeous is this going to be when it blooms?  Beautiful pink and coral...and love that it is deer resistant...although we have no deer here.....lol....

While Mr. Seventies was planting our new addition.....I picked a pretty bouquet of tulips...

Mr. Seventies plans to extend the garden along the walkway off the pool deck...there are so many varieties of tulips now....and it would be nice to have a few more....

We are watching the long range forecast for next weekend...cloudy and warm is what we need to stain the outdoor decks and steps.  And get the pool opened for the summer...

Another project on the horizon is re-doing the front walk....the large walking stones have settled...and we've decided to lift them & place them on the crushed rock area of the drive...and the new ones we set in that area last year...will move to the front walk...we need to pick up two more...for a total number of eight stones needed.   Sand is needed to spread under each stone...so rather than purchase umpteen bags of it...we will get a small trailer load of sand brought in.   I'm pushing to hire this work out...but Mr. Seventies is again....pushing back...wanting to do it himself.  I'll ask our son-in-law to come be a strong back and help out...I know he won't mind at all.

And lastly...I've had a real struggle to find suitable sandals this year...I've ordered a couple of pair...and returned them.  As much as I am not a fan of Birkenstock...I ended up with these ones.  The have a soft footbed...and don't make me feel I have Freddy Flintstone feet!!   The colour is khaki..and I like that they don't have the wide strap bands.  I have sandals for dressier wear..but need something for slipping on and getting out & about.

Miss Liesel has a spa appointment this morning....I'll run a few errands while she is "enjoying" her treatment.  She has an amazing, gentle, patient groomer...a perfect fit for Liesel.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day wherever you are!!

Only Took 30+ Years!!!

For our Azalea to finally bloom!  Usually these shrubs are easy to grow...we somehow got a finicky one!  It has taken years for her to finally show off her colours!!   I see them everywhere...and had planned to pick up one in orange...but shied away from doing that as this old gal took her sweet time in blooming!!  We are thrilled to see her in all her glory....

I've considered getting a Cricut machine but am hesitant to venture into that world!  My oldest daughter has one....and has made some interesting decor items....including a beautiful window for her sister as a wedding gift.  Going to give more thought to getting one....in the meantime...this decal is now proudly displayed on my new vehicle!  (bit of an obsessed Outlander fan...in case you hadn't realized)...

Also have this one....but will hang on to it for now...I might just add the dragonfly to a window...(I have it in white as pictured)...

And a couple of cute pieces I picked up...I love this cute top...perfect for wearing with denim capris...the style is very flattering...and the colours are so pretty...

And this comfy dress/top is so me!  It is so soft...and can be worn on it's own or with capris, leggings or jeans...very casual....

Today is going to be warm and sunny...looking forward to a beautiful day!  Made the decision to have my hair cut short for the summer...I did this last year as well.  Much easier to keep...and my hair grows fast...so if I decided to grow it out again...it won't take long....

Hope you have an awesome day...stay safe wherever you are!

Happy Victoria Day Weekend!!

A long weekend...although the weather is going to be a bit unsettled.  But today....today is beautiful....sun is beaming...and forecast to be 21 degrees!  In previous years...this was the weekend we opened the pool and got it ready for summer.  Since the temps are forecast to be cooler...we plan to wait for a week or more to get it operational.

The flowers, trees and shrubs are coming to life...things are slower blooming here on our fair Island...the tulips have given me numerous beautiful bouquets though...

I love to pick fresh bunches...Mr. Seventies planted a large number and variety of them for picking!  Such a beautiful bounty of colour...we have people stopping to admire every day!

The azalea is working so hard to bloom!  We've had this shrub for 35+ years...out of necessity it has been moved around a few times...in an attempt to find the right spot for it to flourish.  Most we see are covered in blooms..maybe in a few days more blossoms will come out...

I want to share a few things I have ordered....I couldn't pass up on these cute earrings...

And this is the perfect summer cover up...and tie dye is my thing...and...it has pockets!

Not that I needed another dress...but this one I really love...the buttons are off to one side!  It is so soft and comfortable...

I've struggled to find sandals that won't cause pain in the ball of my foot.  Birkenstocks are usually recommended...but I find them to look awkward...and I feel like Freddy Flintstone with them on.  I ordered a pair of Vionic sandals...that are reviewed to be comfortable for problems such as mine...so fingers crossed.  I prefer sandals that I can slip on my feet...as opposed to strapping or fastening them....

The deck stain we use is on sale...Mr. Seventies has asked that I pick up a gallon...and daughter is in the market for a new laundry team.  Most stores...have a waiting time...one place has an August 5th delivery date!!   She has asked I come along today while she sees what is available...with free delivery.

I hope it's a great weekend where you are!   Thanks for stopping by....

Full Day Outing

Since the weather has finally turned around and we are enjoying warm, sunny days...we took advantage and enjoyed a road trip around the Island.  We are currently open for on Island travel only...and not in lockdown.  We still adhere to all safety protocols when out & about....

The first stop was a favourite greenhouse Mr. Seventies enjoys visiting...and usually comes home with 5 or 6 new perennials.  This visit was no different...here he is just getting started...

We were there just at the right time as the greenhouses were stocked fully...this section is just for perennial plants and shrubs...with another area devoted to annuals and vegetable plants and seeds...

I left him to peruse the greenhouses...and ventured into the attached gift shop...oh they had some really great pieces....check out this adorable garden flag...and it was on sale.  I already have a new one for this year...but now wish I had picked one up....

I seriously contemplated getting this tin sign...it was only $14.99!!  My problem .... where to hang it once I had it home?    I'm trying to keep the less cluttered vibe going in our home...

And who doesn't love an adorable family of garden gnomes?  These are just too cute...

Mr. Seventies thought this sign was appropriate...and with my "bee thing" (as he calls it)...it was tempting...

I fell for these planters....hard!  There were not cheap...but were on sale...for 20% off!!

After our visit to the green house....we decided to stop and grab some lunch at the cutest retro diner...definately a blast from the past!!

The exterior which is just getting the outside prepped and ready for the summer season...they are replacing the outdoor eating space with picnic tables and seating more from the time period....

Booths were so bright and colourful!!  And the staff were so friendly...

Remember the old tunes selector...put in your change...and your selection would play on the jukebox?  These were "just for looks"...but Mr. Seventies enjoyed browsing the song selections...all songs we were familiar with....

A few of the song choices?  Do you remember any of them?

Everything was so bright and clean...and it was fun to see all the retro decor pieces...like Betty Boop....

This particular sign has significance to us.  Did you know this brand....formerly Estabrooks tea (produced coffee as well)....is now Red Rose tea?  I have an antique tin I picked up a while back from a junk shop....it's rusty on top...but the tin itself is clear...and is identical to this one...

We remember when gas station pumps looked like this...and an attendant would come out and pump your gas...no self serve back then...

And the most important part...the food was delicious!  We thoroughly enjoyed our blast from the past!!

We arrived home late in the afternoon...and look who followed us home!!  I wasn't sure where to set them...but Mr. Seventies likes them sitting here...and since they are ceramic we don't want to place them outside....

With the sun and warmer temperatures....our gardens are coming to life....isn't it amazing how things survive over the winter?

Tulips are opening up...and our Bridal Wreath Spirea is budding...as are most trees and shrubs...we are about a month behind the other Maritime provinces...as far as everything blooming...

Switching gears a bit...look at this cute little honey pot I found...at Wal Mart!  Adorable...it sits on my kitchen window sill...ties in with my whole Outlander obsession...if you follow the series....

And lastly...the other day...as I sat enjoying a cup of tea...I happened to notice a dog roaming loose on the property across the road.  At first I thought there must be a person with the dog...but after watching for a couple of minutes....I quickly realized he/she was unattended!  I watched in terror as it headed towards the road!

I quickly grabbed my sneakers, flew out the door...and pretty much stopped traffic to get across the road!  I shooed the dog back...and he skittered away...but still roamed back and forth between two houses.  I thankfully had thought to grab my cell phone...and called our local shelter to report the dog...all the while standing on the side of the road to make certain the dog didn't attempt to cross it.

Just as the animal control office was arriving...the dog ran in back of one of the houses.  The officer and I suspect the dog lived in the housing development in back of the house where he took off to...so he was going to search the area.  I'd never seen the dog before...he was an adorable black cocker spaniel with a cute frosty muzzle...he was definitely someone's pet.

I didn't see the dog again...and the officer called to say the dog was safe and sound at home...he had snuck out when the owner's door didn't close quick enough behind him.

All is well that ends well.  There are no second chances for animals and pets on our road...it's that busy.

It's going to be another beautiful day here on our Island!  Hope it's the same for where ever you are today!  Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Our New Ride

After 10 years of faithful service....we said goodbye to our much loved SUV.  Even though it was in excellent condition....and low mileage...we decided it was time to upgrade.  I've been watching & waiting for a good deal on this SUV...and my patience paid off.

We picked up our Mitsubishi Outlander late in the afternoon & at the dealership chuckled at the sign hanging on the mirror...

It just so happens, as I've mentioned before...I'm a huge fan of the television show Outlander.  Where I come from...it's tradition to name your vehicle....so let me introduce you to James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser....(Jamie for short).....

He is incredibly handsome...just like my favourite character in the show....lol...

Crushing hard on the leather interior...and you can seat 7 passengers...of lay the back two seats down for additional cargo space...and I'm looking forward to using the back up camera when needed....

Now this is new to us....push button start...can you tell we are not "car people"?  Some folks are...needing to trade vehicles every 3-4 years (My Dad was like that)...that is not us.  Mr. Seventies has always left the acquisition of vehicles to me.  He doesn't have the time or the inkling to get involved...and assures me that if I'm happy...he's happy.  That's not to say he is not involved or kept in the loop every step of the way...as I'm more comfortable going over things with him....he knows I've done my homework...and know what I want...and how to achieve it....

And oh...the Outlander drives like a dream...during the test drive it was like I'd been driving it forever.  The Outlander is bigger than our previous SUV...but doesn't feel cumbersome or too much vehicle to handle.  We hit it off famously...

I ordered a protective mat for the cargo area...and winter mats for the floors.  The floor mats are in...picking them up today.  The cargo mat will be in later next week.

In other news...I had my first Covid vaccine yesterday...so far so good.  Little soreness in my arm..but other than that...no problems.  I had the Pfizer vaccine....whereas Mr. Seventies had the Moderna.  We were both advised mid August the second dose will likely be administered.

I did get asked, by a relative in the US..why the long time in between doses...and to answer that...Canada does not manufacture the vaccine.  We rely on other countries for our supply.  Our health officials felt it was better to give all residents at least the first dose...rather than wait until 2-3 doses was available for everyone.  Since some residents...in other countries are refusing the vaccines...supply may become more readily available for us.  Their loss-our gain.

The sun is out here...I picked a beautiful bouquet of daffodils yesterday...and Liesel is excited to have her car seat installed in the new SUV.  Won't be long until her nose art will decorate the window!

Have an awesome day & be kind to one another!
