Lets Talk Tarts !!

I am literally obsessed with wax tarts!  There...I've admitted it..my secret it out!  I'm sure I am not alone...with so many scents and tart warmers being sold!

I have a couple of warmers...still sad the snowman warmer arrived broken...but it is still useable.  I was fortunate enough to purchase this adorable truck warmer from a lady who was clearing out some of her older Scentsy stock...for the low price of $20.  For safety reasons...I only use electric warmers. How adorable is this warmer...with removable pumpkins on the back?  You lift them off and set a tart in & then set the pumpkins back.  Or you can leave them off...you can even switch the pumpkins out for a Christmas tree..and there might be others...but I just love the pumpkins!

Personally, I find that brand of tarts way too expensive...and the scent doesn't seem to last!  BedBathandBeyond was clearing out some of their tarts online...6 tarts in a package for $1.99!  Did I jump on ordering them or what?  Yes I did.  Six packages of Apple Cider Donut....smells heavenly...

And spiced pumpkin swirl...(sticker says $2.99...but I paid only $1.99)...and I ordered 6 of these!
Scentsy is coming out with a new tart warmer....you'd think I'd be super excited it's a dachshund tart warmer!!  While cute....it is kind of....blah!  All white?  Just isn't appealing to me...so I won't be ordering one any time soon.

The best place (and cheapest) I have found to purchase tarts...is Wal Mart!  These are are my go to tarts...by Scentsationals.....Warm Applie Pie...

Maple Sugar Pie...by far my #1 favourite scent...it smells just amazing and the scent lasts a long time! (have this one in my warmer right now!)

Cinnamon Sticky Buns...I buy this scent because it is one of the few Wal Mart carries that is sold in packages of 12 as opposed to the normal 6...and people think I've been baking up a storm when they come in!

Apple Butter Crumble...anything apple and spicey is going to smell amazing!!

Mulled Berry Cobbler..sounds good enough to eat!  I usually use this one in the summer months..a real melting pot of berry scents!

The price of these tarts is usually $3.49 for 6....compared to $4.99 and up in other stores.  And Wal Mart always has a great selection!  I tend to pick the "food" related ones...lol.

Remember yesterday when I wrote of Anthrolopologie in the US no longer shipping to Canada?  Occasionally,  I turn to Ebay...dozens of sellers on there carry the brand...and I found exactly what I was looking for.  A beautiful Anthrolopologie spring quilt...in a couple of months I will be putting lighter bedding on in the master bedroom...which happens to be Lazybones Rosette quilt (from Anthrolopologie) in white with white shams & Euro shams.  I was wanting something pretty and spring like to lay at the bottom of the bed...and break up all the white.  And this gorgeous quilt fits the bill!

If you've never seen the jersey quilts from Anthrolopologie...this is the white Rosette quilt.  It is so soft and I love that it's stretchy and hangs beautifully on the bed.   I also have it in pink...which will look awesome with the above quilt I just purchased.

Going to be a bit of a snotty day weather wise here.  Little bit of snow, freezing rain and then rain.  Then we will be back into the frigid temps again.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

A Few of My Favourite Things

Sorry, I've been MIA the last few days....I was having technical difficulties signing in to my blog.  All good now....

Most of our snow is gone...we had a couple of days of messy, rainy weather...now we are in a polar vortex...so it is cold out there.  I'd rather have the cold than snow...any day.

Mr. Seventies and I were out and about on the weekend...first stop was to drop off our recyclables.  Though they are picked up once a month, on Saturday mornings you can drop them off...great if you have a few bags and cardboard piling up!  First picture shows Mr. Seventies putting blue bags in the proper bins.   Besides the blue bags, we have two large carts...one for compostable materials (green cart) and another for waste (black cart).  They are emptied on alternating weeks...for example tomorrow is "green cart day".  Mr. Seventies wheels the car to the end of the driveway...and Island Waste Management will come along and empty it.   Plastics and papers are kept in blue bags...and picked up one a month...but we usually drop ours off...as it is not far from our house.

Recycling is huge here in PEI...we are...after all... an Island.  Putting garbage into our soil contaminates not only our soil, but our drinking water as well.  So, very little is considered trash.  What can't be recycled...is sent to the Energy from Waste plant, which converts it into heat...for our hospital, businesses, nursing homes and private homes.

So there....all you wanted not to know about our recycling program!  Now onto the pretty...I thought I would share a few of my favourite finds...this sign is farmhouse simple..

And this one gave me a chuckle....

I am so crushing on this lamp...there were two...one is behind this one...I just might have to pick it up for the downstairs family room!  Of course, I didn't think of that at the time...just that I really loved how it looks like it's made of little logs...and the square shade is a awesome!!

And I have a thing for baskets...and these are no exception!

I don't know about you, but I find this time of year..the stores are conflicted on putting out certain stock!  Some have Valentine decor, which is a non event for me as far as decorating goes.  It's a bit too early to have Easter things out...although I see a bit here and there.  Again...a non decor event for me...and it's way too early to even think about summer decor!   After the overload for Christmas decor...January is such a let down!

I did discover a couple of adorable mugs...which just happen to show my favourite breed....

And speaking of my favourite breed...look who I met out doing some shopping...why it's none other than Miss Chili!!

She is new to Prince Edward Island...having been adopted through a rescue in Texas....(yep...ya'll read that right)...she was brought up by many transport volunteers.   She is wearing the cutest sweater and vest...not yet acclimated to our cold climate...but doing awesome otherwise.  And an abundance of personality...

And finally...a quick rant!  I recently discovered Anthrolopologie (in the US) no longer ships to Canada.   When I inquired as to the reason...I received a canned response about shipping beauty products and larger objects (furniture) was somehow restricted.  Okay...neither of those I have ever ordered...but I have ordered bedding through them....many times!  And now...it's no longer available for shipping?  Ok...no problem...I can spend my $$ elsewhere Anthrolopologie.

Wishing everyone a great day!!

The Urge to Purge

With all the chatter on the Internet about getting things organized...it has struck the urge to purge in me!  After all...there are only so many bedskirts, comforters and household things you can use!

I have spent the better part of this week sorting...putting things into three piles...things I use and can't part with, things to sell in the local classifieds and another pile for the goodwill shops.
And I went through our clothes closets...and if I didn't love it or wear it in the last 6 months...out it went!  The SUV was full of goodies for the goodwill shop!  We have what's called a Mission store, it's run by volunteers and the prices are really reasonable.  (it previously was called Bibles for Mission...but it was shortened to the Mission Store). They were thrilled to get my bags of "stuff".

I feel like my home can breathe!  One lady dropped by to pick up an item...and she sweetly complimented by saying we have a beautiful home!  What a dear she was..she said she admires our home whenever she drives by!  Who knew?  This old Seventies split appeals to people!  *fist pump*

On other fronts...I clumsily took a short tumble down the back steps...just a couple of steps...and I didn't break anything.  Only bruised my good knee and my ego!  Thank goodness Liesel heard me calling Mr. Seventies...she barked and alerted him to a noise outside!  Just me...sitting in a pile of snow!  Nothing a good soak in a hot bath didn't cure.

Mr. Seventies is having a tooth extracted this afternoon.  Sadly, a root canal could not save the tooth...as it was discovered a crack was in the tooth.  It's a back tooth...so not feasible to do an implant...but still sad to lose a tooth.  Speaking of implants....I had my last implant finished yesterday.  Two oral surgeries and seven months later! Done and done.

We've had one messy storm...and another mess on the way...this one is mostly rain.  Which is fine with me!  Prefer rain to snow any day!

So, that's my news.  I haven't been out and about much...my friend and I are thinking of painting a pottery piece on Friday.  There's a choice of making your own piece or painting a piece previously made.  The shop is called the Happy Potter...looking forward to checking it out!

Here's to the rest of your day being awesome!!

Baby It's Cold Outside

Another very frigid day on our fair Isle!  Bitter cold temps...with even colder windchill!  But...it's winter in PEI!  We grumble about the weather...but it is a beautiful place to live!

When I was in Home Sense the other day, I spied a cozy throw...and since I have gift cards...it seemed like the right time to pick up another throw!  I had a difficult task choosing a colour...as they had gray ones, off white ones and snowy white ones.  I wanted faux fur...and when I spotted this particular one...it was perfect!  It has navy undertones with gray....win-win!

The family room felt barren...with the huge table gone from the middle...so I pulled one of my wicker trunks into action...

It's just big enough without over powering the floor space..happy I was able to use what I already have as opposed to purchasing something else.

You are able to see it works perfect in front of the love seat and across from the sofa!

I want to share the handbags I had ordered from TSC.  I absolutely love them!!  Both are perfect size...and have long straps for carrying over body...and the coral bag can be carried by the short handles!  They are buttery soft leather...and will age beautifully.

Mr. Seventies is out and about today...picking up a few items...we are preparing for yet another winter storm...apparently Sunday overnight and into Monday.  It could be a real mess...as they are forecasting snow, freezing rain and then perhaps rain.  A mixed bag of misery.

So stay warm this weekend and have a great one!!

Throwback Thursday

I thought it would be "fun" to share some photos from February 2015...when we received 84 cm of snow!  A huge storm is forecast for this Sunday night and into Monday....potential for 30 cm with this one!

This is our SUV...buried in snow!  Mr. Seventies needed to trudge his way through the snow and tie an orange ribbon to the antenna on the roof...so our blower contractor would not hit the car!
Snow plows are used mostly for our highways, businesses and main roads....private contractors use tractors with blower attachments to clean driveways.  Once behind our SUV was cleared out...Mr. Seventies moved it out of the way so the rest of the driveway could be cleared.

After the snow was cleared out...and quite a bit of shovelling still needed to be done!  Wow...those are some snowbanks.  Mr. Seventies needed to shovel the banks at the end of the driveway down...just to be able to pull onto the road!

So much snow!  It was very dark....kind of spooky in the downstairs...as snow covered all the windows...and we could barely see out the large family room window!  Being able to shovel a path to the front door didn't happen right away!

The pool and deck area....you can see the pedway is fully blocked with snow!

Good times!  Not.

Back to present day...I ordered a second pair of Blundstone boots.  I have one pair currently, in black...but have been crushing on the red stone colour.  Seldom do Blundstone go on sale...but not only did I find a good price on them...but an additional 10% off for signing up to the site!  That's a $24 savings right there....and free shipping to boot!!  (pun intended).

Since Mr. Seventies and I spent a day purging clothes closets...I ordered some new tops and t shirts as well!  I ordered this one in the mauve colour....to wear with leggings and skinny jeans.

Empire waist style of tops are good for curvy gals like myself!

And this cute top...again the higher waist is flattering and will look great with jeans!

The two hand bags I ordered previously arrived yesterday...and they are even nicer than the photos!  I love them both, they are perfect size as I do not like to carry a large bag or tote but just the essentials, wallet, cell phone and small change purse.  I'm not one to cart around my whole life in my hand bag! I switch them out often too...so it's not a pain to move everything from one bag to another.

I'll post pics of the bags....and a faux fur throw I picked up at Home Sense the other day.  By the sounds of the impending weather....it will come in handy!

Things Are Just Ducky!!

Finally 99% recovered from our miserable (is there any other kind?) colds.  Let's hope that's it for this winter.  Do you get flu shots?  We sure do...I'm a firm believer they work.

Since cabin fever was settling in...I managed to get out of the house for some much needed retail therapy!  And look who I found in my travels!  I didn't let her get away this time...I quickly set her in my cart!  I know she's not the bunny canvas I fell head over ears for...but this cutie comes in a close second!

After seeing her a few weeks back....I returned to see if she was still available. With no success...I presumed someone else out there with my quirky taste had snatched her up!  But...I suspect she was moved to another location...as I stumbled upon her in a totally different section of the store!  So...she came home with me.  I hung her in the main bath...I wasn't sure if she would clash with my cows...but they all seem to be playing nicely together!

And I couldn't resist these cute dish towels....a pack of two for under $8.

Is anyone a fan of Rae Dunn?  Nice pieces...but a little too plain for my taste.  I'm more of a Pioneer Woman style....lots of patterns and colours...but a number of people like the more simplistic touches,

I must say I am disappointed in the selection of decorator cushions in the stores these days!  I'm still searching for a couple for the master bedroom...but have found nothing.  Nada.  I do love these soft white ones though...but not what I'm looking for.

While recuperating from the cold...I did some browsing on the Shopping Channel...(never a good idea).  I checked out the clearance section...and found a couple of beautiful leather handbags on sale.
And yes...I ordered this gorgeous olive green one...its a cross body...which I really like.  Or it can be slung over my shoulder.  It's not big and bulky...just the perfect size for holding my cell phone, wallet, keys, etc.

I couldn't resist this pretty coral crossbody bag as well...perfect for summer use...

This one has the choice of using the handles or the longer strap for across the body or shoulder.  When purchasing handbags, boots and shoes... I stick with leather.  When treated and taken care of...leather will last for years!  Leather protectant spray is a must!

That's about it for now...we're into cold wind chills again the next couple of days...other than running the odd errand or two...plan to stick close to the hearth.

It's That Time of Year!!

Cold and flu season!  I  apologize for being MIA the last few days.....Mr. Seventies and I have been sick with colds!  It's good to share stuff like that.  Mr. Seventies came down with it first...then it was unavoidable that I caught it.

So its been Vicks, Neo Citrin, lotion Kleenux  and throat lozenges for us the past few days.  Thankfully, we are both starting to come around.

Be back next week...we have a few days in the forecast with cold windchills.  I'll be snuggled up beside a warm fire!

So Then This Happened

Another stormy weekend...yesterday we had another messy day...not much snow...but high winds...just enough to blow around what we did get. And...another mess in the forecast for tomorrow night into Wednesday.  Gotta love winter in PEI!

The snowman tart warmer saga continues....to refresh your memory...after I received him...he went on sale...from $29.99 to $9.00.  I contacted Bed Bath and Beyond and they credited me the $20 difference in price.  I thought all was good!

Until I opened him on the weekend...

A huge piece broken off!  Both boxes used in shipment were in perfect condition...but somehow it arrived damaged. I contacted the store again....they quickly offered a refund...as at $9.00 the warmer sold out quickly!  Of course it did!  I'm disappointed...but stuff happens.

Since the break was on the back side, Mr. Seventies was able to glue the piece in place...and the warmer is useable...but I'll be checking to see if it comes back in stock.  Doubtful...but you never know.

And speaking of Mr. Seventies...he is suffering with a "man cold".  Enuf said!

I'm out and about today....I'm searching for another cushion for the master bedroom.
I put my Waverly Sancturary Rose set back on the bed...but it is lacking one or two decorator cushions.  There were three options that co-ordinate with the set...the striped cushion is one of them.

The neck roll (this pattern is the reverse side of the comforter and shams) is unavailable..
And I really don't care for the third option....

I should be able to find something I  really love and fits in with the colours oft he comforter...maybe even a couple of cushions.  Right now...the bed just seems bare...I don't want to add another set of shams or Euro shams....

Wish me luck!!

Winter Wonderland

Happy Friday!!  Winter has hit us early and hard this year!  With the exception of mild, rainy weather before Christmas...we've had some snow days!  And meteorologists are forecasting not one but two storms on the horizon!

With that, I decided to take a few photos of our current winter wonderland!

The pool is completely snowed in!  This is the first year we have used a pool cover...and I guess it is doing it's job.

View from the small deck...

Nice little snow drift at the far end of the driveway....

The front lawn...always looks so barren this time of year....

This is the empty field behind our house. (land is up for sale...about 5 acres I believe)...it's been empty since we moved here in the late 80's).  I remember when the trees on the right were planted...you could step over them!  About twice a year, during the summer the land owner cuts the field down so it doesn't get overgrown.  Just wish he would wait until after the lupins have come out!

Mr. Seventies has always dubbed our home "Rabbit Hound Inn".... a few years back a friend made up this sign for me to give him.  We put it at the back of the house....lest we have tourists in the summer looking for a room for the night!

It's currently snowing...seems to be a pattern.  Remember the adorable snowman tart burner I ordered?  It has arrived and is as cute as anything!  And after I ordered it...the price dropped from $29.99 to $9.00!!!   A whopping $20 price drop!!

I contacted Bed Bath and Beyond and the customer service representative is going to credit the $20!  I mean...if it had been $4-$5 I would have not bothered...but $20 is quite a price drop!  And BBB were more than obliging...very happy to say!  The other burner is still the same low price of $14...it is a fall theme one.

On that note....have an awesome weekend!  Hopefully we won't be "snowed in".  A few winters ago...2015 I think...we received 84 cm in one storm alone!!  We dubbed is "Snowmageddon".  I'll share those photos at a later date!
