Little Bit of an Update

I do apologize for not posting much lately....thought I would pop on and share what is going on.  A little background...without getting in too deep.  I am anemic...due to a couple of auto-immune conditions.  It has been determined, through numerous scopes and testings....my body does not absorb iron.

I take an iron supplement daily....but every now and then...the ferritin blood protein that contains the iron level  will drop dangerously low.....along with the hemoglobin level. (which means you have a low red cell blood count (anemia).

When this happens, I tend to get very sick....and have a number of side effects.  After being so sick during Christmas....I really didn't need this...but such is life.

Treatment for anemia...are iron infusions...done at the hospital.  You would think, because I am an anemic patient these transfusions could be done routinely....but our hospital has changed its policies and protocols...so until your levels dip dangerously low...you are out of luck.  This is where you require an astute doctor...who is watching for your blood work results...and has moved them up to every eight weeks from twelve.

A "rush" order for a two hour infusion has been ordered...I'm hoping it will be within the next few days....and I will start feeling like my old self.  Lately....I move from the sofa...to the bed...and back again!

Today we are getting our first real taste of winter with snow, wind & freezing rain.  Schools are cancelled and a number of businesses have closed.

When my fusion appointment is set...I'll take you guys along for the fun of it!  And I can't wait to get back to my old self....I miss being out and about!

I'll share over at Between Naps on the Porch for  Metamorphosis Monday.

Ravioli Lasagna Crockpot Recipe

I came across this recipe and it sounded easy and delicious to put together!  I didn't make a large pot full....but you certainly could do multiple layers to feed a crowd.

Crockpot Ravioli Lasagna

Ingredients

1 pkg of ground beef, pork or turkey

2 small onions

1 can of pasta sauce (or you can use your own)

Shredded cheeses of your choice

1 pkg of ravioli squares (I chose 4 cheese ravioli) fresh or frozen

Brown meat with onions.....add pasta sauce.

Layer meat mixture in bottom of slow cooker.  Add shredded cheese.  Then place about 1/2 package of ravioli squares. Add another layer of meat/sauce/onion mixture...shredded cheese and rest of ravioli squares.

Top with shredded cheese.  I did add a small amount of water...to keep everything moist.

Ready to be covered & turned on.  Since it was my first time trying this recipe...I only made a small batch.

My slow cooker runs hot...so I cooked it covered...on low setting for 2 hours...then turned it down to keep warm setting for an hour before serving.   Don't over cook.

Happy to report....it was delicious!

New Dream Team

Not only did we end up needing a new refrigerator....I forgot to update on the status of our washing machine!   Last I posted about it...we were having a repairman come take a look at it.

He quickly advised the washer (at 12 years old) was not worth repairing....only to have it break down again in a few short months.  I was a bit heart broken....as I loved that set!  But sometimes it's time to let go.

Our daughter had purchased a new washer & dryer set a few months ago...and has been very happy with its performance.   Mr. Seventies & I headed to a local furniture/appliance store....and picked out a matching front loading LG set.  They were in stock....so no ordering or long wait required...and delivered & set up that very day.  And our old set was taken away....free of charge!

You will notice..they are not sitting on matching bases.  But those have been ordered...and will arrive in March.  At which time they will be delivered and set underneath each appliance!

We are very happy with their performance...and I'm thinking it's time to paint and refresh the laundry room!  It's been 12 years after all!

We've had a few days of freezing rain, ice pellets and rain!  And more in the forecast tomorrow!  It's hard to believe we are in the middle of January already...and we have very little to no snow on the ground!

I'm late to the party but plan to hang out over at at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday

Dusting of Snow-With More On The Way

We had a few centimetres of snow this week...and 10-20 cm expected tomorrow....before turning to rain (hopefully)....I guess it was bound to happen...we have this small amount so far....

Liesel did great seeing the veterinarian on Monday....it is not her favourite place to be!  No idea why she had sores/scabs on both hocks (elbows)....and it must have been itchy as she worsened the area by licking. She's been on medication for the itch....which has worked wonderfully....and we apply the cream twice daily....and pull on a t shirt quickly afterwards to prevent her from licking it off!  This morning we are seeing a vast improvement...she will continue treatment for an additional week and hopeful to have things cleared up.

We have no clue....why or how this got started...especially both elbows.  Fingers crossed it stays cleared up...next course of treatment is antibiotics....

She is enjoying an early morning snooze by the fire....wearing her New England Patriots t-shirt!!

The small order from Bath & BodyWorks Canada arrived...so happy I got in on a few of the sale items!  The dachshund reindeer wall plug & refills I'll tuck away til next Christmas....the soaps and candles were selling at amazing prices!  Can never have too many of either....

That's the last few days in our little corner of the Island.  I have a couple of quick errands to run today...then will hunker down & wait for this first bit of messy weather to pass by.  Rain & snow always makes it messy for getting around.   But such is life here!

Have an awesome weekend!  And thank you for stopping by today & spending a bit of time with me.

Let's Have A January Do-Over!

January started off rough...I'm beginning to feel human again!  It's going to take a few more days...but I plan to get out and about today!  Craving fresh air...it's been two weeks since I have ventured out.

Liesel has a veterinary appointment...a skin irritation....that she is obsessed with licking.  I've kept the area covered with t-shirts...and given 1/2 a Benadryl for a couple of days....so today she will be attended to.

The replacement refrigerator has been delivered....and this one is perfect.  No scratches...and I still want to hug her daily!  Is it normal to love an appliance this much?

Mr. Seventies assisted in hanging daughters new curtain panels.  Not a great photo...they were in the process of removing Christmas decor and re-arranging furniture....but she sent me this photo.  Perfection!  Little back story...one panel arrived with minor damage...not noticeable...but Etsy refunded the total amount of the order.  The seller has advised a replacement panel will be sent as well.  I will get a close up photo when I am able to visit next....

Daughter is extremely happy with them!  See how pretty draperies look when they are measured and hung properly?  Makes any room look bigger!  One interesting note....when we measured for this window...we measured for placement of the rod 4" down from the ceiling.  And ordered the length of each panel accordingly.  However...had the rod been placed in that position....the panels would have puddled on the floor by 4"!  Placing the rod higher was the only option.  This order was a mix up from the get go.  Never had an issue with my previous orders...for our home.  But this one...has been a challenge...

My leather  Manitobah Muklucks arrived before Christmas....and I'm obsessed with them!  Not only are they super comfortable...but very warm as well...and waterproof!!  I debated on the tobacco or cocoa colour....but happy with my choice of tobacco!

I wasn't able to take in any Boxing Day sales....but did do a bit of online shopping sales!  This tunic from Joe Fresh looks so cozy & warm....it will be great for lounging about with leggings or sleep pants.  It is available in red as shown or ivory....the ivory was sold out in my size.

Bath and Body Works Canada was having a great after Christmas sale...I was able to order a few hand soaps, couple of candles and wall plug ins.  Shipping was not free...but for $10 it's cheaper than a trip to the mainland to shop in person....

The Christmas decor and tree are taken down and packed up for another year....thanks to Mr. Seventies. And that is about as much that has been done around our home,  No major snow fall yet...but it's just a matter of time....

It's good to be back...drop over to Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday.  I have a great deal of posts to catch up on there as well!

Till next time....

Good Morning!! Welcome to A Brand New Year!!

I'm going to take a few more days R & R....Christmas here has been anything but enjoyable.  Christmas Eve I felt a cold coming on...and by Christmas Day....I was down & out!  And have been ever since....

I've never had a cold hit me in my throat first....for days I could not swallow...and the pain was excruciating!  Tylenol was all I could take.  I couldn't drink anything or use lozenges for any type of relief...then a cough started.  Again...from my throat.  It is a real mess.  Covid was a cake walk compared to this...(which I tested negative for three times last week).

No fever...so I felt it was viral.  No medical professionals available....massive doctor and nurse shortages.  They couldn't have helped me anyway.  Turns out...it is viral.  And still with me.  The pain & sore throat is about 75% gone....but the cough & runny nose has set in.   And I still feel pretty miserable.

Mr. Seventies (or Dr. Dad) as our daughter calls him....has been taking excellent care of me.  He had a terrible cold about two weeks ago....we tend to share things!!  I think it's in the marriage vows....

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with their loved ones!  I want a do-over!!  At least on the Christmas dinner...I could have been eating the tires on the SUV!  Nothing had taste then....that will be a few more days before my taste buds come back....

See you all again...hopefully soon.  xoxo
