Snowfall Warning, Dyeing Real Touch Tulips & My Doxie Finds Arrived!!

What can I say about the weather here?  We've gone from bitter cold windchill temperatures to an extended snowfall warning...with winds!  (what would a storm be without winds?).   We may get more or less snow than forecasted.....just another day in paradise!  We are, if nothing else....a hearty bunch!

I found this awesome down coat in a local shop here.....40% off and perfect coat for the cold temps!  I'm well bundled to go from a heated house....to a heated SUV!

I''m 5'7" and it falls about my mid calf....and am obsessed with how warm & cozy it is!!  (that's two hats on my head!!).  Mr. Seventies advised I would need my warm coat as we headed out to daughter's for supper!

When I brought out my previously dyed real touch tulips....I hadn't thought the dark coral/orange dyed ones would bleed into the blue....next time I will store them separately.

While browsing Michaels, checking out the various colours of liquid dye....I had an inkling I'd choose black.... so that is what I went with....only one bottle of dye was required....

Once the mixture was heated & extremely hot....I dunked the tulips in....usually a couple at a time....

Keeping them in the dye bath for 3-4 minutes......giving lots of time for them to absorb the new colour.... then on to paper towel for drying....(I let them sit for 24 hours....turning them from time to time)...

I was a bit worried the black with the dark coral/orange would look a bit too Hallowe'en....but then remembered I love Hallowe'en....and I love the colour combo together!  If I come across more real touch tulips at the thrift stores.....I will buy them & dye them with more "spring like" colours....

What can I say about the quality & awesomeness of this tote bag from a seller on Etsy!   It is gorgeous....so happy I ordered the matching wallet..(it should be arriving any day now)! The tote is available in three sizes...(I chose the large size)....and with white or black handles...there is a longer strap included...and the tote has a zipper closure....

These were Temu finds.....but I also came across the bag on Etsy as well...how adorable is the dachshund purse charm?  (sold separately).....

The dachshund cookie jar I ordered has arrived!!  I couldn't be happier with the size & quality....even though it is giving off Christmas vibes, I'm leaving it out to admire for a while.....

It's currently snowing here.....but nothing is shut down....I expect the worst will be overnight...(when the winds are due to pick up)....we've almost got January 2026 in the books!

Winter Wonderland!

We're back in a deep freeze friends!  -29 C windchill here with a risk of frostbite warning!   Yikes!  It was very windy last evening....calmer this morning, but winds are forecast to return later today!  It's winter-in Canada!  Enuf said.

We received about 29 cm  (about one foot) of snow....we had very little before this storm.  Let's hope it warms up a bit & has an opportunity to melt before we get any more...it's a light, fluffy snow....

Mr. Seventies shovelled off the pool deck floor .... it helps eliminate melting snow from laying on the deck boards...... he also keeps our walkways clear ..... the driveway is too big a job.....we've had an awesome guy hired for years to blow that out.  Plows are usually used for roads and parking lots.

Large tractors with snow blowers attached are the norm for clearing residential homes .... some have small snow blowers of their own....but we have a great contractor hired the last number of years....he comes early morning & usually two-three times afterwards to keep us cleared out!  Snow removal usually cost anywhere from $400-$500 per year....very worth it!!

Our bird feeding station had to be cleaned off as well....we have one little squirrel who is obsessed with trying to get at them... and not having much luck!

He/she  is able to push the cover to the side & crawl in....it's pretty cute to watch....

Our holly shrubs covered in snow....

Thursday weather forecast is calling for a snow-rain mix.  Go figure!  My adorable dachshund cookie jar arrive - and I'm obsessed!!  I don't care if he is decked out in Santa & sweater....he is going to sit on the counter!!

Look at this adorable bag, purse charm & wallet that also arrived!!  The cutest finds....ever!!

The stores are selling tulips and Home Sense & Inspired Living carry "real touch tulips".  (so expensive too).  Which made me bring mine out...(the ones I picked up at the thrift store last year).  They were originally dirty white in colour....and I dyed them!

Some of the orange dye rubbed off on the teal ones.... I plan to re-dye them!  Not in teal this time....but black!  Stay tuned - fingers crossed they turn out!  Mr. Seventies thought they were "neat" as is.... not the look I'm going for though....

January is slipping by..... our dachshund pup is now 16 days old!  I don't want to bother the breeder & request updated photos..... but I may just have to!  I know they have grown... usually it's at this age they open their eyes!  Cannot wait!!

Thanks so much for being here today!  I hope it's warm & sunny where you are....

Til next time....

Let's Go Shopping on a Snowy Day!!

It's a winter wonderland out there today....but nice & cozy inside snuggled up by the wood pellet stove. It began snowing here late last night...it has just about stopped as I'm typing this.....schools are closed for the day....and surprisingly there is not much of a wind!

Before we begin our browse around Home Sense....I ordered this candle from a seller on Etsy....and she tucked in a "free gift" - doxie charging cable for my iPhone!

The charger cord has a number of jacks....it can be used on various iPhones....depending on the model...and one fits my phone perfectly!  I can use it to charge my phone on my laptop....we also have a charger sitting on the kitchen counter where you set any model of phone or ear pods on for charging...

During my trip around Home Sense....look what I spotted!  Add to cart....immediately....

Look at this adorable holiday hoodie....marked down to $4!!  It was added to my cart so fast!  It wasn't a big investment, size XS....in the event it doesn't fit our pup next holiday season....I'm only out $4!

Our pup is 15 days old today!  I so want to ask the breeder for any updated photos....but don't want to be a PITA (pain in the a$$)....

How awesome is it to  have a neighbour who fuels your dachshund obsession!  She came across this at Home Sense a few days ago....and purchased it for me!  (she had to apparently....there was only one in the store)!  Mr. Seventies asked if I was going to bake....(I detected a hint of sarcasm in his voice).....these would be awesome ice cubes!!

Some beautiful cushions....this one had me at hello....and it was feather filled....not foam or batting....

Foam and/or batten filled cushions are a Pet Peeve of mine....(that on not closing the toilet lid!)....maybe it's just me....moving on....look at this piece of pretty perfection....

What makes this kitty cushion more adorable.....the tail that hangs down!  We've never owned a cat...Mr. Seventies is allergic to them....some bother him more than others!   Go figure....but look at that little tail!!

I'm crushing on this pretty pink checked cushion....adorable....it would be so cute on a bed.....and could be used year round....

I have a dear friend on the mainland....who recently lost her little "Mexican"....(as she lovingly called her)
how adorable is this piece?  She is also Mama to a standard wire hair dachshund....when I first met her a few years ago....she had three standard wire dachshunds.....and one little chihuahua....her fur family is down to one sweet wire boy....

Luv this....adorable toast & jam....strolling hand in hand...

I still have a passion for anything bunny....and one driving a car was almost too hard to pass up....

This adorable set....dish towel and scrubbies....is so cute!  I could never use the dachshund scrubbies though....I wouldn't want to dirty them up....so not practical for me....

When I left Home Sense I needed to pop into Wal Mart.....and came across some dachshund stuffies...for only $3.98 each!   I picked up a couple of our younger grand daughters....

And in other news.....we are on the hunt for a new bed frame & headboard.  As much as we love the four poster bed....its height is becoming an issue.  Well, to be perfectly honest...I suspect our new pup may end up in the "big bed" with us....and there is no way I would risk a fall or jump off the bed!   Could be instant back trauma....

It sounds crazy to say that is the reason why we are "downsizing" to a lower bed frame....but it's the truth..    Daughter recommends a plush headboard with padded frame....this one from the floor to the top of the frame (not including mattress)...is only 12 inches.....no box spring is required....but that would depend on the comfort for us....we're just beginning our search.... this particular one has great reviews....

Join me later today with other bloggers over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday and again tomorrow with Joanne at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesdays.....

Thanks so much for spending a bit of your time with me....greatly appreciated!

Thrift Store Visit 2.0 & Checking Out Home Decor

Happy Wednesday, all!  I hope your week is going well...the weather has improved here the last day or two!

Daughter & her new husband put an offer on a home, outbidding another buyer & were successful in their offer!  The sale is pending a home inspection....if there are no issues....they hope to take ownership the first of March!  The home is in a rural area...concerns me a bit...(I need the white of city lights)....a  security system will make a great house warming gift....

Let's continue on with my visit to the thrift store....just a few things that caught my eye....these cookie cutters were in a bag for $3.00.....I purchased them...two Christmas trees, a ghost, a star....and who wouldn't love a lobster shaped cookie?

This bowl was originally from Home Sense....I know because I had previously purchased one in a mustard colour...and used it for Liesel's water bowl...I still have it so I don't need this one....

This tea pot from Tim Horton's coffee shop is a collector's item...and while I am a tea drinker....I don't really need a tea pot...

A couple of times a year....usually Hallowe'en & Christmas....Tim Hortons will put out holiday mugs....such as this one....priced at $2!  Add to cart....yes please

A shopper in the store saw the mug in my cart & stopped to inquire how much the mugs sell for at Tim Hortons, when they are available.   I replied more than $2 for certain!  Usually, they sell for $14.99....or thereabouts....

Tarts!!  Not in any scent that I like though....so I didn't grab them....tempting as it was....

I did pick up this piece of folk art....for the outside pool deck wall....and although it was priced at $13.99...it scanned at checkout for $6.49....score!!  It has a secure wire on the back....all ready to hang!

How cute is this adorable dachshund case?  I didn't open to see what treasures it held inside....crushing on those roller skates!!

While I was out....I stopped into Inspired Living...they are still clearing out their Christmas decor...this overpriced tree ornament is adorable....but even at 50% off....is still pricey....

Now, you know I fell hard for this guy.....and he danced & played music!   Cute as he was....I resisted..

Mr. Seventies was surprised I didn't come home with this!  Does this man not know how much money I save him when I don't buy everything in sight??  Geez....

I don't know what to say about this canvas....who doesn't love a couple of goats in a bathtub?

Couple of cute cushions....they were on 50% off....they did carry a good selection of pastel Christmas ornaments & decor....

This one is cute....and so true!   Nothing better than an awesome nap!!

I'm loving this pretty footstool!   The last thing I need is another piece to trip over...it would even look pretty in a bedroom....

I love the smell of coffee....not that I drink it...Mr. Seventies does...this candle, which I did purchase...smells amazing under my light...(rather than burning it....it sits on a wooden base with a pretty light over top.....melting it).

It's soy with wooden wicks (I have no luck burning wooden wicks btw)....it currently sits on the kitchen counter & smells amazing...

Lastly, did you ever not read cards thoroughly before purchasing?   I had picked up this pretty card a few weeks ago in anticipation of daughter's wedding.  Imagine my surprise when I went to sign it....and actually read the front of the card!!  Thankful I had time to pick up another one...

While a beautiful & a great card....daughter's spouse is a male!  They had a great chuckle when I shared this with them...

Note to self - in the future.....read cards carefully!

Thanks bunches for sharing a bit of your day with me!

Til next time....
