A Visit To The Garden Store

We took the short drive to Vesey's Seeds....the spot where Mr. Seventies buys vegetable seeds for the upcoming gardening season.  We tend to go early in the season..... sometimes the seeds sell out!  Every Christmas Mr. Seventies is gifted a certificate to use at Veseys.....he had written his list a couple of days earlier....so off we went!

There was another couple in the store.....about our age...doing the exact same thing!  Great minds think alike!  While Mr. Seventies gather up his seed packages.....I browsed the gift shop....

This sweatshirt is right up Mr. Seventies alley!  So true...

I think this book might be a great Father's Day gift idea....

We have this potato cookbook already (written by an Island author) ....although we don't eat an abundance of potatoes!  A few weeks back....a number of local farmers opened their warehouses - and anyone could fill bags with potatoes.....at no cost!  Mr. Seventies & daughter came home with two shopping bags full!  (although we gave her most of ours......as they eat more potatoes than we do)....

I think this would look awesome in our garden....either the veggie or flower gardens....

I love anything with foxes.....and this garden flag is no exception!  However....I get mine so much cheaper on-line....and have an abundance of them already.....

This is a great garden stand & flag.....I do prefer the flag holders that you push directly into the soil....with our winds....this I suspect would blow over pretty quick.....

At first glance I thought these were painted terra cotta pots.....however they are vinyl.   Still very pretty & available in a variety of sizes and painted patterns.....

By this time, Mr. Seventies had his seeds safely tucked in a paper bag....and was happy to get everything on his list....

In other news.....I popped into Home Sense one afternoon....and came across the Easter bunny/dachshund piece....this time marked down....immediately added to cart.....I only have so much resistance.....

How pretty is this candle vase?  I'm not a huge fan of their candles.....but once burned this little container would be an awesome little vase.....

Home Sense seems to always have an awesome collection of mugs.....and I love anything sunflower....however I have enough mugs on hand to open my own coffee shop.....

In other news.....today we will be given the time to be at the hospital tomorrow for Mr. Seventies surgery....a quick call this afternoon to the pre-surgery clinic to advise us....

I know Mr. Seventies is a bit anxious & that is understandable....but he will be relieved when surgery is over & he is home.  The surgery itself takes about an hour and a half...then an hour in recovery & if all goes well....I'll be able to bring him home.  Daughter is available to assist if I need a bit of help....but I'm not anticipating any problems....

In anticipation of the arrival of Miss Clancy Mae.....I popped into the pet store at the end of our road...and was immediately disappointed how little the worker knew about the dog food I was interested in.  I had gone in to purchase a bag of Oven Baked Tradition....a Canadian company in Quebec that oven bakes its dog kibble.  Most pet foods is cooked by extrusion.....this food is oven baked at low temperature...

Oven baked produces kibble that is denser....so your pet may eat less....but feel full.

I was turned off by the pet store worker's lack of knowledge on the product....and they only had limited bags of adult & senior dog food.  A puppy needs food packed with protein.....and a variety of vegetables, fruits & supplements for growing strong....

I left the store & went directly to Global Pet Foods.....where I not only know the owner of the store....the staff are extremely knowledgeable about the products they sell....most having gone on tours of facilities.  I was not disappointed....the young man I spoke with took the time to answer all my questions (although I was well versed beforehand)..

He asked if the breeder was sending a bit of the current food Clancy Mae is being fed....(I've requested some be sent so I can make the transition)....(most breeders...not all.... feed store brand dog kibble....which is less costly than higher priced brands...they usually have an abundance of dogs & pups to feed).  If however,  none is sent he recommended  mixing a bit of cooked white rice into the kibble....(she is currently being fed Purina Chicken & Rice).....

I chose a small bag to make the transition....... happy that it's small bites for small breeds.  And dense & chewable....I hope she has a good appetite!  Most dachshunds do......Liesel was the exception however....

Also Global has a buyer's reward program....when you've purchased 12 bags...the 13th bag is free.....great incentive...

Mother Nature has decided to go out like a lion.....we have a "Special Weather Statement" issued for Tuesday night into Wednesday.  Snow, ice pellets & freezing rain!  Ugh.  Winter go away. I'm thankful the statement wasn't issued for tonight into tomorrow.....so there is that....

Be sure to join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday & again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday....

Fingers crossed this potential winter mess will be a no show!!  I plan to update tomorrow after we arrive home from the hospital....please keep Mr. Seventies in your thoughts & prayers!

Thank you so much for being here with me....I so appreciate your company!

Til next time....

Spring Is In The Air

We've been having some "spring-like" weather...... sun & blue skies!  We've been able to wear sneakers on our walks....the sidewalks are bare....

The stores are chock full of spring decor. & fashion accessories.....like this gorgeous handbag!  I didn't purchase it.....but it was so tempting....

This adorable piece is giving me Anne of Green Gables vibes.....just needs a bit of red hair under that hat......

A cute candle & it smelled amazing....there was a great selection to choose from....

This looks like a craft project......gone bad!   Just going to leave this pic here....it was made of heavy cardboard material.....enuf said.....

Lovely spring cushions....so pretty....this sweet bunny one caught my eye.....along with the beautiful mint green one...

Oh this pitcher.....wouldn't it be wonderful to use during the summer for cold drinks?  Or to hold a freshly picked bouquet of flowers?

Another questionable piece......makes me go hmmmm.... I really don't think I want my tea served in this mug....

Along with spring decor.....lots of spring & summer clothing available....I've been searching for months now for a pair of leather slides for summer.   These ones from VIBAe (Finland) fit the bill perfectly!  I love their footwear....it's pricey....but good quality leather footwear is.....I can't wait until we can pack away the winter coats & footwear....

I've been crushing on these Sorel sneakers for a while now....gave up my crush....and finally ordered them...I love the colour....and they look so comfortable....(and I'm all about comfort)......

Today Mr Seventies'  pre-surgery appointment at the hospital....these appointments are usually about 2-3 hours long..  We are counting down the days until March 31 - fingers crossed his surgery doesn't get re-scheduled or cancelled....he is quite uncomfortable....

Thanks so much for stopping by today....I hope you have an awesome one!!

Til next time.....

Puppy Update!!!! *Edited*

Seems we either cannot count or suck at math!  Clancy Mae needs to be 10 weeks old to fly....which means an additional few days...since she was born February 7, 2026.  New arrival date is now April 21, 2026!  This little tyke has caused a bit of doxierama"...doxie drama - and she doesn't even know it!  She will be worth it tho!!

Let's just take a minute & awe at the absolute adorable-ness of Miss Clancy Mae!  Look at those precious little paws!  *swoon*

Cannot wait to get my paws on her!  I spent most of one evening....texting...calling airlines....arranging her passage from Ontario to Charlottetown!   Our breeder's neighbour will be taking Clancy to the airport in Toronto....(about a two hour drive for her).....she is also a breeder of Wasties.  She has a new crate (with water bowl) that didn't arrive in time for her to use to ship one of her pups...it's brand new - I've purchased it & the bowl to fly Clancy.  (common practice - the buyer pays for the crate - as we did for Liesel).

To fly Air Canada - all pups must be 10 weeks of age - we settled on a date of April 21, 2026 to have her flown in.  She & her brother are leaving the breeder on the same day!  So many changes ahead for them as they embark on their new lives!!

West Jet has an 8 weeks of age policy - but they do not fly cargo planes into our airport.  They do to Halifax....which would have been fine - except her arrival time was 1:41 A.M. (then a three hour drive back home).  That was not going to happen....so she needed to fly directly here.  Her flight is direct - two hours.  The representative I spoke with from Air Canada was amazing....

I remember when flying Liesel here - one airline had a "possible" - could be longer stop over in Montreal of three hours policy.   I've heard horror stories of pets being left unattended for hours - that wasn't going to happen!  That was not do-able - so we chose a direct flight to Halifax for her.  I'm guessing flight times and availability have changed since then....

As it is....I will be a nervous wreck until she is here...safe & sound!!

Weekend Happenings!!

Ok...the calendar says it's officially spring,,,,but we're not having spring weather!  It snowed on Saturday...all day!  Snowed & snowed!    Not a storm....just snow.....and I'm still full of cold!!!

Yesterday was sunny & we celebrated by birthday at our daughter's house.... our daughter from Nova Scotia joined us!  We had pizza & garlic fingers.....followed by a delicious cake.....and our youngest grand daughter & her Dad made delicious cupcakes....and decorated them!

Mr. Seventies gifted me a beautiful bouquet of tulips....pre-birthday....and just because!!

I received lovely gifts...lavender bath salts, cozy slippers, a spring night shirt.... two Amazon gift cards & birthday cards

The adorable pet stairs arrived....and they are perfect!  Hoping to be able to train the new pup to use them...

This adorable blanket from Temu makes a great addition to our pet supplies....I'm hoping to touch base with the breeder this week.  I know the breeder has two dogs expecting litters this month....that may be keeping her busy....

Not a lot of news from here.....Mr. Seventies pre-surgery clinic is Thursday......looking forward to having his surgery done.....(as much as anyone looks forward to surgery...).   He is not a man to sit around & unfortunately that is all he can do now & six weeks post surgery......

The crocus are up in the gardens.....so there is that - pretty little pops of colour!  Whatever snow we get.....usually melts the same day!

Be sure & join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday and again tomorrow with Joanne at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday.....

It's been a minute  since I've been out & about in the stores.....I know there is lots of pretty spring decor out!!  I'm excited for Bath & Body works to open!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.....I so appreciate you spending your time with me!!

Til next time....

Surgery Update!!

As most are aware, Mr. Seventies has a large hernia that requires surgery.....he saw the surgeon last Friday.  His pre-surgery clinic (about a three hour appointment) is booked for March 26, 2026 (bloodwork, ultrasound, etc).....

And surgery is scheduled a few days later on March 31, 2026......let's take March out like a lion shall we?  We're so grateful to have things move along so quickly!  The surgeon had directed during the six week recovery time.....the patient is to do....nothing.

Have an awesome day & until next time.....

Whine & Cheese

Not the kind of "wine" you were thinking......written with tongue planted in cheek.   A short "whine"......still full of cold.....it kept getting worse each day!    Today may be my "turn around day".   I sure hope.

I'm not wanting Mr. Seventies to get it....for many reasons!  So far....so good.

Mr. Seventies saw the surgeon (and really likes him) ....... he (the surgeon) advised he will  see Mr. Seventies at the hospital very soon.... (day surgery to repair the hernia).    Trying to keep him relatively cold-free til then!!  Fingers crossed....

Anyhow.....on to good news!   Introducing Miss Clancy Mae....(we've named her that).....an adorable red smooth - our new family member!  I had an inkling getting a pup from the other breeder.....was not a done deal.  I had placed a deposit on this little one - and she will hopefully be ours....

Clancy Mae was born February 7, 2026 in Ontario.....where her breeder & kennel are located.  She will be available the first or second week in April....

Wrestlemania with one of her littermates.....sweet little black & tan....they are pretty ferocious, right?

The breeder had planned to get more photos over the weekend....if that happens...I will be sharing.  When we obtained Liesel......I arranged for a flight-  on a climate controlled transport plane (not in cargo on a passenger plane)....her breeder drove the three hours to get her safely to Pearson airport in Toronto....for her flight to Halifax.  (there are now transport flights coming from Toronto to Charlottetown)..  Liesel was in the air for exactly one hour.....her water bowl clipped to the inside of her crate was still full.    Talk about a calm flight.....

I'm hoping Clancy Mae's breeder will transport her to Toronto.....and she will fly directly to us!

The quilted Hippie Van tote bag arrived & I am obsessed!   It is gorgeous & so roomy....look at those awesome colours....

And.....the inside has a soft, waterproof lining....how amazing is that??  Luv, luv, luv this tote!  The quilt set I ordered has been shipped also!

This is not a sponsored post....but if you wish to order https://www.comfotlife.com/

I had ordered during Chinese New Year....but found the company amazing to deal with, very punctual replies....I could have cancelled my order since some businesses in China close down for weeks/days to celebrate...but I was happy to wait.  So glad I did!   I've received confirmation the quilt set ordered.....has now been shipped....

I had enough Air Miles points saved to order two Amazon gift cards......and will be using them to order a set of pet stairs...the height from the floor to the seat cushions on the sofa is 15".....

These steps measure 15.7" high.....should be perfect.....(white pup not included).......

Before I came down with the cold.....I had popped into Pet Smart.....in an attempt of find a kitten harness!  Not easy to find a harness to fit a squirrel size dachshund puppy!  Can you believe prices....for a kitten harness....started at $14.99??  *thud*. That is insane.

I'm not certain this one will work....it might be too big...(no size small available).....but for only $3 I can donate it if it's not suitable.....I came across it at a local discount store....(the bess has to go).   Hoping it can be used for potty breaks....I remember when we obtained Schatzi, our first dachshund....at four months of age!  The only harness I could find small enough to fit her.....was a kitten harness!

What do you think of this happy couple?  There is a shop here, located in Cavendish where you & your spouse or family can don costumes (only western attire available) & have photographs taken.

Now with the ease of the internet....you can do it from the confines of your sick bed!  Propped up with three pillows!   It's easy to do....just add your phots....pick your "theme" and voila!  Many, many themes to pick from.

So easy & fun to do!  I chose this one in a 16 x 24 canvas!  Once ready, the order & pic is sent for your approval.....and then you can order, make changes, etc.   Thoughts?

I loved the one above so much....I decided to order a couple others.....each 11 x 14 in size.....I will frame them when they arrive....I'm crushing on this gunslinger!!

Because pink is my absolute favourite colour.....

I may do a "western" one of me alone....but will see when these arrive....

That is about all the "news" from here!  The weather has been less than desirable ....overcast and flurries & off & on snow most days!  If you have to be downtrodden with a cold....the weather has been perfect!

Join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday & again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday !

Thanks so much for hanging out with me today....greatly appreciated!

Battling A Sore Throat & Head Cold!!!

I've managed to avoid colds & flus so far this winter.....until now!  I woke up yesterday morning....with a bit of a sore throat!

By the evening...I could hardly swallow!!  Tylenol, throat lozenges, fluids & Kleenex are about all I can do!!  My throat is still sore today....but not quite as bad!  Ugh.  I'm not a good patient.

Mr. Seventies appointment with the surgeon has been moved from tomorrow until Friday morning....one more day isn't the end of the world.

The overalls my friend sent me from the mainland arrived....they fit amazing!  Turns out a Junior XL is what I needed!

Hope to have a puppy update in the coming days.....sensing the previous pup might fall through.....I have a deposit on one.  More on that later.

The sun is out today.....we originally had a freezing rain warning issued for tonight & tomorrow...that has since been lifted!

Have an awesome day & thanks for being here today!

Til next time.....

Little Heartbroken - *sniff*

It appears we won't be obtaining a dachshund puppy at this time.  There were only three born into the litter - and three co-owners - all who want to keep a pup.  It's what breeders & co-owners do.

Also...heartbreak - the Mom of these pups died from post birthing complications.....which explains perhaps why the pups were moved - likely to a nursing mom.

We are still planning to add a dachshund....and will be reaching out to other registered breeders for any pups or upcoming litters.

Stay tuned....

Has Spring Sprung?

I think it's too soon to think that spring has arrived....we've been having mild temperatures with rain...and sun!  The snow is melting fast....which is wonderful to see!  I'm certain our snow days are not behind us...but it's wonderful to know warmer days are ahead!

Remember this handbag I came across and shared last week?

I popped back to the store & brought it home!!  Even though I disliked the chain links on the shoulder strap...I couldn't resist owning it!  The strap hooks on to the handbag....and can be removed.....so I thought I would use it without the shoulder strap....

Upon a closer look....I knew if anyone would have a solution....it would be Mr. Seventies!!  He was able to remove the chain part.....and I was able to hook it directly to the bag.....

Now I have a handbag I truly love sans the chain.....perfection!!

I was in need of a new leather wallet....mine had seen better days!  I struggled to find one in the stores that was what I was wanting....I'm not a fan of large wallets, handbags or cell phones!  This one, on Amazon was the perfect size!  It holds essential cards, cash and a zippered change compartment.  (the zipper on my old one was broken....coins continually falling out)....and it fits nicely in any of my bags....

And remember the overalls I purchased at Winners?   I purchased them in a size Large....confident they would be more than roomy.....

I was wrong!  And disappointed..... I opted to return them,  secure in the knowledge they came in XL!  Now purchasing anything in an XL, up until I lost weight.....would have sent me into a mini-depression and onto yet.....another weight loss regime!  I'm over it.

I let that go!  As a rule....a Medium or Large works for me.....imagine my surprise when the overalls, in a size Large..... were too tight!!  When I went to exchange them.....not only had they been moved & dispersed in different areas in the store.....but XL sizes were gone!!!  (someone else has great taste)!

It disappointment me realizing I was not going to have them....until I asked a good friend on the mainland to check her stores there!   And she was able to secure them in an XL!!  And....she pointed out they are in a Junior size....not Regular size!  The receipt clearly shows the size as being a Junior XL.  Took the sting out of being too small!!

She's going to pack them up & send them to me....via bus!  (much cheaper.....and quicker than Canada Post)!!!  She & I have done this numerous times.....

She's searching for a dachshund scarf (she is dachshund Mama to a herd of them).....and it sold out in her area.  I combed the store here.....and either they didn't come in or they sold out.  I will keep looking for her...and if I find one....it will be hers.

I know Mr. Seventies is not up to a trip to the mainland....otherwise we could have made a day trip & met up with her.  But that is not happening until he is back to his old self.

Thanks so much for being with me today.....I greatly appreciate the company!
