Cold Temps Have Returned!!

After a few days of seasonal weather.....we are back in a deep freeze today!!  Good news - it will be sunny!  There are no snow storms in our long range forecast....that can change quickly though....

Mr. Seventies has a buddy on the Island today, his grandson is in a hockey tournament....we have plans to meet up with him & catch up.  Always nice to meet up with old friends.

I haven't been too far this week....I placed my red toile bedding on our new bed.....I had dropped it off late last week for laundering....as it is too bulky for my washer & dryer to handle.  (the comforter is quite heavy as well).  We have one main laundry service downtown....they do a wonderful job either laundering or dry cleaning.  In the past there use to be 2-3 other laundry services.....but they closed...

Another neighbour came across the same dachshund I picked up at Winners (currently on the bed)....and came so close to buying it for me!  When he was telling Mr. Seventies about it....he was advised not to worry....I was way ahead of him & had purchased one already!

I love when friends & neighbours are on the lookout for me!  They are as excited as we are.....awaiting the arrival of our pup....(who is officially 4 weeks old now).....

After picking up the bedding.....I popped into one of the thrift stores....not much caught my eye...I picked up this baking dish for daughter in Nova Scotia.  She is moving into a new home in the country (not a new build) later in the month.  It's an adorable rustic home....two storey, three bedrooms, two baths....all appliances included....along with a snow blower & lawn mower in a storage shed....

On her last visit....I sent two large boxes of things for her home....she is excited to get moved in!

I regret not getting this squat pitcher....would make an adorable flower vase....(not that I need more of them)...

I have a thing for bee skeps...this one was no exception.....although I left it for someone else to love....

Remember when barn stars were all a thing?  I still love them....have three small ones on the pool deck wall....but the thrift store is asking way too much for this one....in my opinion - it should be priced at $3.99.....not $7.49.....

This adorable jar was exactly what I was searching for....to use as a treat jar....when I whip up a bath of home made dog biscuits.....(my extent of baking fyi)......but it was marked on the bottom not food safe...ugh.  So cute.....

An adorable gingerbread mug....I've got so many Christmas (and dachshund) mugs.....I don't need any more.....but this one is so cute....

It's only February.....but my thoughts are turned to summer....and with warmer clothing arriving in the stores...I hope to get out & about and do some "browsing"..... I do know of a couple of pieces I hope to pick up....wide leg denim capris being top of my list...

Since losing weight....(and I am not vain in any way).... I don't like showing my upper arms!   I know that no one else cares.... it's a me thing.  Same with my upper thighs.... which is fine....I'm too cold and not comfortable wearing short, shorts....but my arms I prefer 3/4 or long sleeves..  Silly, aren't I?

How about you?  Are you longing for warm, sunny days?  When it's easy to slip on summer footwear... forgoing winter wear?

Thank you for being here with me..... I so appreciate you stopping by!  Have an awesome weekend!!

Til next time....

Not As Advertised & Other Stuff

Welcome to a brand new month!  Happy Groundhog Day!   If that rodent sees his shadow - he's ending up in my crockpot!!  (jk).

We're slowly trudging through winter....it's very windy today..... we dodged a storm that had the potential to dump a mess of snow!   The system went a bit south of us....we're still having high winds....(not out of the norm for here) .......

When I ordered our new bed frame & headboard from Amazon....after reading all the reviews & measurements.....I was confident I had found exactly what I was looking for!   This is the photo from Amazon.....advertising the frame.  Notice how tall the headboard is....the measurements given stated it is 41" in height.....

Um...no it is not.  Now....I'm okay with the height of the actual headboard....the bed arrived fine...with all the parts for putting it together....and it was easy for Mr. Seventies to do that.

The actual bed....again....I'm fine with it & we are very happy with the quality....and a box spring is not required!  Took me a couple of nights of trying to step on a foot stool.... (no longer required).....

And how about that stuffed dachshund ....... I noticed a couple at the mall carrying it & of course I had to ask where they found it!  I should have known the answer .......Winners!!  Definite add to cart.....

Back to the headboard.... I reached out to Amazon to advise that it was "not as advertised".  Did I want to return it?  As in take it apart & box it back up?   No, thank you!  So....Amazon gave me 50% back of the price!  I like it even better now!!

I had this quilt set on hand....because it's lightweight I put our down comforter underneath....(along with the electric blanket....don't judge...it's been very cold here).......the sun came out just as I was taking the above photo....

I forgot to share my find at the thrift store when I last visited.....this was $5.49....with $1.00 off coupon....(I ran it through the dishwasher) & tucked it away for next fall.  Crazy original price sticker on the bottom.....

Now, I have two Stanley water bottles....and what a pain they are!!  I'm constantly knocking them over (when filled with ice water)......and even with a cover.....water leaks out.  So, while I was busy vacuuming out the pellet stove....I didn't notice the bottle had been knocked over & water spilled on the family room area rug!!  It took three old large bath towels & my hair dryer to sort it out.....but I'd had enough.

Stanley & I have since parted ways!  Since I had a substantial amount of Amazon gift cards....I ordered not one....but two Yeti bottles.....one in red...the other in navy!  I ordered the child's size (don't judge)...they are 12 oz. and perfect size!  And unlike Stanley, fit in the cupholder in the SUV!!!  And leakproof!!

I love this tumbler so much, with its flip top - no external straw required, I ordered the same size.  When one is in the dishwasher....I still have one available!

The navy Yeti and the following items....I used gift cards for.  I've mentioned many times how I use airmilesshops.ca to collect air miles when shopping at participating stores....then use those air miles for e-vouchers....there are a number of stores on line (Amazon, Bath & Body Works, Simons just a few where I have used e-vouchers) ......

I ordered these cushion covers (20 x 20 inch size) to freshen up cushions in the family room....

And a couple of items our new pup will be needing.....paw protectant to protect little paws from the copious amount of road salt they spread on the sidewalks!  In past experience...... road salt is brutal on paw pads!  Before going for walks, during the winter it's best to apply a coat of protectant....then wipe paws when arriving home.....

It's difficult to gauge how big our pup will be when the weather turns cold next fall.....I'm hopeful this pretty size Small Royal Blue sweater will work....

I had planned to get out & about today, but with the north winds making it feel much colder....I'll wait until tomorrow....

Be sure to join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday and again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday.....

Have an awesome day wherever you are & thanks so much for being here!!

Spring Has Arrived At Home Sense

After spending four days in the house, due to storms and cold temperatures.....it felt good to have a chance to drop into Home Sense after a rescheduled hair appointment....(due to snow day & storm)....I was getting a bit "shack happy".....

There's a mix of spring, Easter & St Patrick's Day decor pieces on the shelves....so let's dive on in....

This cute hoodie was still available.....and at $4.00 I picked it up!   If it doesn't fit our pup next holiday season....I'll donate it to dachshund rescue....maybe for a fundraising auction....

Home Sense currently has the best selection of wicker totes and baskets....I don't need any....but if I did...this one would have been added to cart...it is a good size tote....and I'm obsessed with the scallop edges on the top....

These heart shaped baskets would be perfect filled with Valentine treats.....available in a pretty mauve colour as well...

How adorable would this bunny be on a front door?  I considered it....but with our winds...it wouldn't stay on the door for long.....

This pretty wreath was $29.99.....not a bad price....

I acquired mine last year on FB Marketplace for $10!!

I had a feeling someone or something was watching me....and when I looked up a gaggle of geese were keeping a watchful eye.....do they not look like they are on duty?

I've been seeing similar pretty lamps all over Tik Tok and Instagram....some are chosing to make their own with some heavy duty glue....my favourite is the tea pot lamp....would look so cute on a kitchen counter...

I wanted this jewellery box so bad....but the sticker shock brought me in to reality.....$24.99!  It's just the right size to set on my dresser....to store my earrings, necklaces & rings.  *sigh*.  I left without it...

What a beautiful enamel covered casserole dish....so pretty.....

I suspect this gorgeous Smeg kettle was a pretty mint colour....the box was sealed with an anti-theft alarm attached.....it's the type of kettle you put on your stove.   I prefer the cordless kettles.....

This beautiful bone china travel mug is gorgeous....there is a flip top for easy travel.....being bone china it is perfect for keeping tea or coffee hot!  My issue is the size.....I prefer a smaller mug....I do well to manoeuvre my Stanley mugs also .......

And you know I saw "dog bed" when I came across this beautiful, feather cushion!  I'm so tempted to pick up a unique bed for our pup.....but know full well we need to survive the puppy chewing stage!

In the bedding section, I found the most gorgeous set of embroidered sheets....only in King size!  Disappointed.....but I'll keep checking from time to time in case they bring in the Queen size.....

And the wallet matching my beautiful new tote arrived!   It's already in my purse being used & I've gotten compliments on it already....I didn't need or want the strap & was able to snip it off....

Our new bed arrived!!  We spent one full day dismantling the four poster bed & setting up the new one.....I'll share photos next week!  We both love it....Mr. Seventies admitted he never liked the four poster bed!!  Who knew?  He's much happier now ......

There are very cold windchills here currently..... I plan to bundle up & visit Inspired Living later today....if you are interested I'll take you along!  Lots of spring decor there I bet!!

Thanks so much for being here with me today.....greatly appreciate your company!  Have an awesome weekend.....

Until next time.....

Snowfall Warning, Dyeing Real Touch Tulips & My Doxie Finds Arrived!!

What can I say about the weather here?  We've gone from bitter cold windchill temperatures to an extended snowfall warning...with winds!  (what would a storm be without winds?).   We may get more or less snow than forecasted.....just another day in paradise!  We are, if nothing else....a hearty bunch!

I found this awesome down coat in a local shop here.....40% off and perfect coat for the cold temps!  I'm well bundled to go from a heated house....to a heated SUV!

I''m 5'7" and it falls about my mid calf....and am obsessed with how warm & cozy it is!!  (that's two hats on my head!!).  Mr. Seventies advised I would need my warm coat as we headed out to daughter's for supper!

When I brought out my previously dyed real touch tulips....I hadn't thought the dark coral/orange dyed ones would bleed into the blue....next time I will store them separately.

While browsing Michaels, checking out the various colours of liquid dye....I had an inkling I'd choose black.... so that is what I went with....only one bottle of dye was required....

Once the mixture was heated & extremely hot....I dunked the tulips in....usually a couple at a time....

Keeping them in the dye bath for 3-4 minutes......giving lots of time for them to absorb the new colour.... then on to paper towel for drying....(I let them sit for 24 hours....turning them from time to time)...

I was a bit worried the black with the dark coral/orange would look a bit too Hallowe'en....but then remembered I love Hallowe'en....and I love the colour combo together!  If I come across more real touch tulips at the thrift stores.....I will buy them & dye them with more "spring like" colours....

What can I say about the quality & awesomeness of this tote bag from a seller on Etsy!   It is gorgeous....so happy I ordered the matching wallet..(it should be arriving any day now)! The tote is available in three sizes...(I chose the large size)....and with white or black handles...there is a longer strap included...and the tote has a zipper closure....

These were Temu finds.....but I also came across the bag on Etsy as well...how adorable is the dachshund purse charm?  (sold separately).....

The dachshund cookie jar I ordered has arrived!!  I couldn't be happier with the size & quality....even though it is giving off Christmas vibes, I'm leaving it out to admire for a while.....

It's currently snowing here.....but nothing is shut down....I expect the worst will be overnight...(when the winds are due to pick up)....we've almost got January 2026 in the books!

Be sure and join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday & again tomorrow with Joanne at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday!!

Thanks so much for being here with me today....I hope you are safe from any snowstorms where you live....do be safe!

Til next time....

Winter Wonderland!

We're back in a deep freeze friends!  -29 C windchill here with a risk of frostbite warning!   Yikes!  It was very windy last evening....calmer this morning, but winds are forecast to return later today!  It's winter-in Canada!  Enuf said.

We received about 29 cm  (about one foot) of snow....we had very little before this storm.  Let's hope it warms up a bit & has an opportunity to melt before we get any more...it's a light, fluffy snow....

Mr. Seventies shovelled off the pool deck floor .... it helps eliminate melting snow from laying on the deck boards...... he also keeps our walkways clear ..... the driveway is too big a job.....we've had an awesome guy hired for years to blow that out.  Plows are usually used for roads and parking lots.

Large tractors with snow blowers attached are the norm for clearing residential homes .... some have small snow blowers of their own....but we have a great contractor hired the last number of years....he comes early morning & usually two-three times afterwards to keep us cleared out!  Snow removal usually cost anywhere from $400-$500 per year....very worth it!!

Our bird feeding station had to be cleaned off as well....we have one little squirrel who is obsessed with trying to get at them... and not having much luck!

He/she  is able to push the cover to the side & crawl in....it's pretty cute to watch....

Our holly shrubs covered in snow....

Thursday weather forecast is calling for a snow-rain mix.  Go figure!  My adorable dachshund cookie jar arrive - and I'm obsessed!!  I don't care if he is decked out in Santa & sweater....he is going to sit on the counter!!

Look at this adorable bag, purse charm & wallet that also arrived!!  The cutest finds....ever!!

The stores are selling tulips and Home Sense & Inspired Living carry "real touch tulips".  (so expensive too).  Which made me bring mine out...(the ones I picked up at the thrift store last year).  They were originally dirty white in colour....and I dyed them!

Some of the orange dye rubbed off on the teal ones.... I plan to re-dye them!  Not in teal this time....but black!  Stay tuned - fingers crossed they turn out!  Mr. Seventies thought they were "neat" as is.... not the look I'm going for though....

January is slipping by..... our dachshund pup is now 16 days old!  I don't want to bother the breeder & request updated photos..... but I may just have to!  I know they have grown... usually it's at this age they open their eyes!  Cannot wait!!

Thanks so much for being here today!  I hope it's warm & sunny where you are....

Til next time....
