Thrift Store Visit 2.0 & Checking Out Home Decor

Happy Wednesday, all!  I hope your week is going well...the weather has improved here the last day or two!

Daughter & her new husband put an offer on a home, outbidding another buyer & were successful in their offer!  The sale is pending a home inspection....if there are no issues....they hope to take ownership the first of March!  The home is in a rural area...concerns me a bit...(I need the white of city lights)....a  security system will make a great house warming gift....

Let's continue on with my visit to the thrift store....just a few things that caught my eye....these cookie cutters were in a bag for $3.00.....I purchased them...two Christmas trees, a ghost, a star....and who wouldn't love a lobster shaped cookie?

This bowl was originally from Home Sense....I know because I had previously purchased one in a mustard colour...and used it for Liesel's water bowl...I still have it so I don't need this one....

This tea pot from Tim Horton's coffee shop is a collector's item...and while I am a tea drinker....I don't really need a tea pot...

A couple of times a year....usually Hallowe'en & Christmas....Tim Hortons will put out holiday mugs....such as this one....priced at $2!  Add to cart....yes please

A shopper in the store saw the mug in my cart & stopped to inquire how much the mugs sell for at Tim Hortons, when they are available.   I replied more than $2 for certain!  Usually, they sell for $14.99....or thereabouts....

Tarts!!  Not in any scent that I like though....so I didn't grab them....tempting as it was....

I did pick up this piece of folk art....for the outside pool deck wall....and although it was priced at $13.99...it scanned at checkout for $6.49....score!!  It has a secure wire on the back....all ready to hang!

How cute is this adorable dachshund case?  I didn't open to see what treasures it held inside....crushing on those roller skates!!

While I was out....I stopped into Inspired Living...they are still clearing out their Christmas decor...this overpriced tree ornament is adorable....but even at 50% off....is still pricey....

Now, you know I fell hard for this guy.....and he danced & played music!   Cute as he was....I resisted..

Mr. Seventies was surprised I didn't come home with this!  Does this man not know how much money I save him when I don't buy everything in sight??  Geez....

I don't know what to say about this canvas....who doesn't love a couple of goats in a bathtub?

Couple of cute cushions....they were on 50% off....they did carry a good selection of pastel Christmas ornaments & decor....

This one is cute....and so true!   Nothing better than an awesome nap!!

I'm loving this pretty footstool!   The last thing I need is another piece to trip over...it would even look pretty in a bedroom....

I love the smell of coffee....not that I drink it...Mr. Seventies does...this candle, which I did purchase...smells amazing under my light...(rather than burning it....it sits on a wooden base with a pretty light over top.....melting it).

It's soy with wooden wicks (I have no luck burning wooden wicks btw)....it currently sits on the kitchen counter & smells amazing...

Lastly, did you ever not read cards thoroughly before purchasing?   I had picked up this pretty card a few weeks ago in anticipation of daughter's wedding.  Imagine my surprise when I went to sign it....and actually read the front of the card!!  Thankful I had time to pick up another one...

While a beautiful & a great card....daughter's spouse is a male!  They had a great chuckle when I shared this with them...

Note to self - in the future.....read cards carefully!

Thanks bunches for sharing a bit of your day with me!

Til next time....

We Had Us A Hitching!!!

What a wonderful time we had as our oldest daughter & her long time beau were married on the weekend!  High winds almost threatened our travel plans (when winds reach a certain speed...the Confederation Bridge, which connects us to the mainland)..... can close to all vehicle traffic!  While it closed to high sided vehicles (buses, transport trucks, trailers).....it remained open for regular vehicles to cross....much to our relief!

The wedding had a "western theme".....they were adorable & we couldn't be prouder of their journey!

Sarah....our beautiful bride....on her happiest of days....

Saying their vows....they are such a great pair....we couldn't be happier for them....

As the afternoon wound down....and the sun was just about to set....they headed outside for some photos....

Congratulations Sarah & Steve - many happy wishes for a long & loving life together!!  Dad & I are very proud!

And if our weekend wasn't wonderful enough.....look what landed in my in box!!  Puppy pics!!!  Are your ready for some absolute adorable wiener pups??  One week old...two little reds....and one piebald boy!!

Heart be still!!  We'd be thrilled to have anyone one of them!!!

I will share another day the rest of my thrift store finds, as well as a browse around Inspired Living & Winners....

Look at the great finds & ordered....on Temu....two adorable throws & a mat for underneath water & food bowl.....my guest bedroom closet is filling up with puppy paraphernalia!

And I want to share my Etsy finds.....originally I just ordered the tote....but since I had a gift card....I decided to order the matching wallet!  Cannot wait for them to arrive....I'll share when they do....(the tote handles were also available in black...I prefer the white)....

Thank you for visiting with me today....my heart is full of love!  Even the snow-rain mix & winds outside cannot dampen my mood these days!!

Please join me later today as I'll be sharing over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday and again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday!!!

Come Thrifting With Me

It's fun to spend some time browsing a couple of local thrift stores...wanna come along? I'm breaking this post into two parts....rather than overload you with a lot of photos!  A number of platters on the shelves....

The prices were reasonable....and there are a few to pick from....loving the apples on this one....such a fun piece....

This wintery snowman one is adorable....lots of uses for this sweet platter....

I have no thoughts on what this set could be used for....maybe they are better served using separately...what do you think?

Can you say add to cart?  This small harness hopefully will work for a bit.....it should be okay for a puppy.  It closes with velcro....which I'm not a fan of....but it will be a "beginner" harness....should work and be strong enough to hold a little pup.  I find if overused, the velcro tends to lose its hold...last thing we want is the harness giving way & have a pup on the loose!

I think the price was $3-$4 at the most....these retail for $39.99 & up!!    It's in new condition - I don't think used....

And the first warm little jacket....also sells for $39.99 & up!   The ones I found to compare it to had hoods....I prefer no hood....

A pretty mint green throw....one of many we will need!  Everything is freshly laundered & ready to use!

This little video brought me to tears!  Before Christmas, Atlantic Canada Dachshund Rescue had a post where you could purchase, on Amazon...various items a dachshund in rescue might enjoy for Christmas!  From the list of dogs in their care, I chose Beanie...who is a very special senior girl...battling kidney failure.

I ordered a couple of Beanie's "wants" & had them shipped to her!  Her adoptive Mom sent me this video...Beanie enjoying one of the toys I sent!  Now....here's where the waterworks started.  Notice the red & white blanket Beanie is snuggled on.   I recognized it immediately - it was Liesel's!   I asked Beanie's Mom where she had gotten the blanket - she confirmed it arrived with Beanie when she adopted her!!!

Oh my heart!  The rescue president confirmed Beanie had indeed received Liesel's blanket.....along with a couple of other doxies - the blankets went with them to their new homes....as they enjoyed them so in foster care!

Our precious Liesel...paying it forward!

Moving right along....these crates were just set out as I was browsing around...$9 for the smaller one and $14 for the larger one!   Excellent prices....

I don't know why I didn't buy this cute dog dish....having a couple of spares is always a good thing!  I should have picked it up....it's the perfect size...ugh.

I'll end this visit here....will share a few more things I saw....it was a perfect time to roam about....the stores weren't overly busy....

We have a busy weekend coming up.....daughter in Nova Scotia is being married to her long time love.  A very, small intimate gathering....we'll motor over along with daughter here & her husband....

Thanks so much for spending time with me today!!  Have an awesome weekend!!

The Puppies Have Arrived!!!!

The puppies made their grand entrance yesterday morning!  Three of them!!  A red girl, her brother -also red & another brother...a tan & chocolate pie bald!!  They are healthy & doing well!

Now....there is a chance the pie boy....if deemed show quality at his eight week evaluation...he won't be placed in a companion home!  *insert my sad face*.

I've inquired if we could be considered for the red girl (would also happily accept either boy or girl).  Since Mama Dachshund is co-owned (two breeders have rightful ownership - giving both access to the pups)....our breeder will confirm if she is available.  I haven't heard any further updates...hoping photos will soon be available....

Oh...I don't want to get our hopes up....if it is meant to be....it will happen for us!   Paws crossed!!

A Brand New Year!!!

It's good to be back!  I'm hoping everyone had a beautiful Christmas....and belated Happy New Year!!  We had another wonderful Christmas...we enjoyed Christmas Eve with munchies & exchanging gifts with daughter & family....as always we recieved too much!  One piece I was gifted was this beautiful cardigan...in the softest & prettiest colour....

Along with fleece lined black leggings....so warm & comfortable!  And gift cards!!  I love giving & receiving them.!  We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Christmas Eve.....followed by a delicious dinner with all the fixins' at daughter's house on Christmas Day!  New Year's Eve we enjoyed pizza & garlic fingers & rang in the New Year before granddaughters bed time!!

One item Mr. Seventies gifted me was a rechargeable hand vacuum....I love this thing!  So handy for those small clean ups when I don't want to bring out the big vacuum!  It's so handy sitting on the charger in the kitchen...

Did anyone take in the after Christmas sales?  I went out for an afternoon of shopping.....picked up a couple of things......this adorable doxie cushion at Winners...(also available at Home Sense)....

And....how cute is this dachshund candle?  It looks great on the mantle opposite to the one in white....

While not purchased locally...this beautiful cookie jar was an Ebay find!!   And why yes....I did order one.....I'll share when it arrives!

These Christmas kitchen towels were on clearance at Wal Mart....for $3.99!   I tucked them away until next Christmas.  We only just took our tree down on Saturday....I could have enjoyed it longer....but it was time to pack it up & put away....doesn't the house feel empty when all the decorations are gone?

While in Home Sense....I came across this adorable piece...yes it's a chair for a toddler.....but it would make the most cutest dog bed!   Right??  Even Mr. Seventies agreed!

I only saw two issues that prevented me from bringing it home.....while it's adorable....it's also "chewable"....and we know how puppies love to chew!   So that and how on earth could this be laundered?  Getting it washed & dried would be a huge issue!   If he can't be easily washed & dried....it's not a good idea....but I wanted to get it!!

We are calling 2026 the year of the dachshund!  Our breeder advised our pup's Mama is due January 10, 2026!!!  (calculated from when she was bred).   As with any expectant mother....that is an approximate date.... we're sitting on pins & needles until the puppies arrive safe & sound....(little excited)......

I have a set of five of this exact reindeer mugs!  This one at Home Sense was marked down to $4....I now have a set of six!!

Our weather has turned really cold....with bone chilling windchill temps....I am so not a fan of the cold!  I have to dress in layers in an attempt to keep warm!

Please join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday and again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesdays!

Thanks so much for spending time with me....so much to look forward to in 2026!!

A Couple of Purchases

Can you believe Christmas is in three days?  We're looking forward to spending time with family & enjoying Christmas with our grand baby here....it's wonderful to see the excitement in her this year.....

We needed to replace our ash metal canister vacuum.....the old one's hose was being held together with duck tape...it was time for a new one.  I reviewed various models online and this economical one has great reviews & available on Amazon....it's a bit smaller but works really well for cleaning out the pellet stove.  It is bagless...and made of metal in the event of vacuuming  up a hot coal...that is usually not an issue as we let the stove go stone cold before cleaning it out....but better to be safe than sorry....

In the winter we use our crockpot....a lot.  Have you discovered the liners for them?  Genius invention..I find .they work really well.  I was skeptical in the beginning....but after using them a few times I'm sold!

Talk about easy cleanup!  I wasn't able to find them in the stores here & rather than spend time fighting traffic & the crowds I ordered these ones on Amazon....

And talk about sticker price shock!!  Inspired Living was having a sale on their Christmas inventory....not a huge sale - 25% off....when I saw this cute dachshund I wanted it.  The price - $74,99!!!  *thud*.

Even with 25% off....it was still over priced!  And it weighs about as much as styrofoam....not a heavy, stuffed piece at all.   I left disappointed....and empty handed.   The store was full of shoppers.....checkout was lined up....no spots left in the parking lot either....I honestly didn't see any 'big deals.....

My wins from the recent dachshund rescue auction arrived....is this hot water bottle (included inside) not adorable?  I also won a calendar from Atlantic Canada Dachshund Rescue in a draw....this is the 25th anniversary of the rescue group working in the Maritime provinces....with myself being a founding member joining the group all those years ago.

Myself & a few other members worked hard for 12+ years here rehoming dachshunds in need....fostering...transporting...fundraising & placing them in loving, new homes.  I retired from the group a number of years ago.....but have recently rejoined to assist with home visits for potential adopters, reference checks, transports and fundraising.  I won't be fostering again....since I think one pup will keep us busy enough.....but never say never....

This adorable felted tree ornament is hung on our tree....wouldn't I love to have about half a dozen of them....

And with that my friends.....I'll peace out for today!  It's currently snow squalling out there....Mr. Seventies & I have appointments today & tomorrow.....and a couple of last minute errands to take care of.....

Have an awesome day & thanks so much for visiting with me .....

Please join me later today.....I'll be sharing  over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday....my last link party for 2025!

My Auction Wins

A dachshund rescue group held an online auction recently.....and I was the highest bidder on three items....(all for great prices)....this beautiful, handmade snuggle sak with no reserve bid.....for $20!   These normally sell for $40 & up....gorgeous soft fabric & a generous size.....

This was Liesel's snuggle sak....not used as she was not a burrower.....most dachshunds are....our Schatzi loved to crawl to the bottom of hers & snooze for hours....Liesel not so much....for some reason I kept it.....

This adorable hot water bottle cover is also another win.....and will be arriving any day....so cute....

Along with this felted tree ornament....can't wait to hang it on the tree...

I was happy to help out the fundraising online event...the group shared they raised around $1,700....money to help vet dogs in their care....

I'm dipping my toe back into the dachshund rescue world....not as a foster home....but there is so much "behind the scenes" help needed....calling references, home visits for potential adopters, fundraising and assisting with transports of dachshunds to get where they need to go.....whether to a foster home, vet visit or the Atlantic Veterinary Hospital for care....

I chose not to foster this time around....(having fostered a number of dachshunds in recent years).....that may change down the road.....but we will be busy in 2026 with our new arrival...puppy & obedience classes, house training & getting our pup settled in.....we may visit fostering again.

I was a previous "foster fail".....needing to adopt our last foster dog.   It happens to pretty much to most who foster...there will be that one dog that comes in ...  Xena our first wirehair was eight years old when we came to foster her.....and she never left.

Having fostered many dachshunds before her.... sending them on their way to their new homes....once Xena arrived....we were then a three dachshund home!

I wouldn't take back any of my rescue & foster experiences..... this time around I'll be happy to help out behind the scenes.

We didn't get as much snow as forecasted on Monday....still a messy, windy day!  The next few days look milder....with no storms lurking about....

I greatly appreciate you spending your time with me....
