Our Little Heart Warrior

Well peeps...I'm going to admit...it has been a very few tense filled days...but all has gone exceptionally well!  While grand baby Annabelle was being transported from our hospital to the IWK last Tuesday...via ambulance...she suddenly began choking...very seriously!  The EMTs determined to turn back to our hospital...and Annabelle and her Mom were flown to the IWK by the Life Flight plane...about a 25 minute flight....as opposed to a three-four hour ambulance ride.

One of the amazing EMT allowed me to board the ambulance...at the airport and give Annabelle and her Mom a quick kiss for good luck....and let me tell you...my heart was breaking...putting my heart and soul on that plane was one of the most difficult things I've gone through.  My son-in-law was already on his way via motor vehicle...to meet them at the IWK...

The ambulance and plane...getting their precious cargo loaded and ready to take off...

Our little rock star under went open heart surgery...July 2, 2020...her three month birthday.  A very long day in the OR...as she was taken in a little after 8:00 a.m. and her surgery was finished around 5:00 p.m.  Slow and steady was the motto of the day they said.  Can you imagine the number of surgeons, OR nurses, anethesiologist...the amazing skilled crew that placed our grand baby on by pass equipment...so the very large hole in her little heart could be patched?  True miracle workers...

A 6 mm hole is considered "large" by cardiac standards....Annabelle's was 17 mm!  To say she was a sick little baby girl, is an understatement!

Her parents have put in a long and difficult struggle since her birth in April...all leading up to this surgery.

We are very happy to report...she aced the surgery and is recovering beautifully!!  Since the Maritime provinces had opened up for inter-provincial travel...we drove to Halifax to spend a couple of days giving support to our daughter and husband.  Unfortunately, we were not able to see Annabelle in the hospital...but cannot wait to hold her in my arms soon!

Two days post-op!  Her colour is so much better...and each day she is removed from tubes and machines...and has moved from ICU to a Unit...

And look!!  My little Grumpy Cat...is a Happy Cat!!  An adorable little smile...and how about those bright, baby blues!!  She still has her feeding tube in...and will for some time yet...but it's just a matter of time before she is able to feed normally!

When she is discharged from the IWK...she will return via ambulance to our hospital where she will receive continued care.  We don't have any confirmed date of her discharge or return to PEI....but we hope it won't be too long.  Understandably, they won't discharge her until they are 100% certain is is fully on the road to recovery.

She has some beautiful guardian angels keeping watch over her...both great grandmothers, a great Aunt...and my dear friend Christine who passed in 2019....never having the opportunity to meet Annabelle.  But they are all there with her...there is no doubt in my heart about that.
