No Cost Witch's Broom

Mr. Seventies & I put together our version of a witch's broom......to set it at the front door for fall & Hallowe'en......

If you remember, this one at Home Sense......and while I loved it....I couldn't see paying the $50 price tag.....I knew it would be easy to put one together for my Seventies Split.   The inspiration broom....

Mr. Seventies had this old snow shovel that had seen better days & was no longer being used....since we would be needing a handle.....it is perfect.....

First task was to remove the banged up shovel end....you can see it was bent and the screws were very rusted....but Mr. Seventies was able to remove that part....

Thanks to Hurricane Fiona in 2022, we still have an abundance of branches stacked behind the storage barn.....we've been using them up in our fire pit, along with a number of fallen trees cut up & placed there....

We decided on a length & Mr. Seventies got busy trimming them to size.....

We were liking the way it was taking shape.....we used medium gauge wire to attach the sticks to the handle....

The pine needles will continue to dry up and fall off.....and those that don't will be trimmed......

All finished.....and housed in the storage barn until fall....I added a pumpkin bow I had on hand....remember the broom won't be coming inside....but stand at the front door.  I'm wondering if the handle should be painted...or left rustic.....as is...

All in all,  I'm happy with my witch's broom!  I picked a bouquet of gladiolas....and while placing them in the vase....noticed an earwig moving around in one!  So....this arrangement is not in the house...if there is one earwig....there are more & I don't want them inside!   I set the vase on an outside end table....and have enjoyed it out there....dam earwigs!!

I have been wanting a set of these ghost buckets for two years now!  Only two issues....first issue... they sell out really, really fast....and the second issue....the company Mud Pie in the US.....and does not ship to Canada!  Bummer....

But....I checked on Amazon Canada....and Mud Pie presumably sells there.....and with Prime I don't worry about shipping costs!  I quickly ordered a set....fingers crossed they will arrive later this month!

My neighbour & I have been obsessing over this peek-a-boo cat cushion on Pottery Barn Canada!  Neither of us wanted to pay the inflated $134 price tag!!   I found the exact same cushion....same amazing quality....for $35 on Simons (Canadian company)!  I shared my find with her.....and we quickly each ordered one!  Both arrived within days....and we're very happy.....I might have to put it out a bit early....

In other news....we had an amazing family weekend.....with daughter and family visiting from Nova Scotia!   And look who she brought with her!!  My new grand-dog!  My daughter works in an animal shelter....there has been a hoarding situation.....with numerous chihuahua & chihuahua mixes surrendered......and this little guy found his forever home.....daughter fell hard for him!!

Introducing 10 week old Oliver!!  He is recovering from numerous infected flea bites....dear little man!  He continues to be on antibiotics....along with medicated baths.  He has received worm, flea & tick preventative....along with medicated baths!  He has has a healthy appetite all things considered....and is feed every four hours!  He has his own little car seat.....and is being trained to sleep in his crate at night. He is microchipped.....and will be neutered in the coming months....

Oliver is just one of many the shelter has taken in....he & his sister came in at the same time.  She was absolutely adorable....more of a long hair....with the cutest frizzy fur on her head!   She has gone to her forever home as well.  There will be more surrendered to the shelter....thankfully they are getting out of a horrible situation.....

His big sister, Stella a large mixed breed  (also a shelter surrender).....is slowly warming up to him....as long as she approaches him.....on her terms...for right now.

Just look at that heart on his forehead.....perfect spot for kisses....of which he received many! He was such a good boy during his introductions to everyone....all wanting to hold him....I assumed he would crash when he arrived back home, daughter informed me he was doing "zoomies" around the house at 9:30 pm!

Our hearts soared having Oliver join our family....other daughter & I are a bit lost after losing our beloved dachshunds.....

I found this adorable dachshund at Winners for her....it's a "Hug & Hold).....there is a magic bag inside that is removed for warming up (buttons on the underside where it goes)......  pretty cute.  She lost her little black & tan dachshund a couple of years ago.....and still misses him terribly.....

Yesterday we had a barbecue & dips in the pool...... daughter, along with her husband and our youngest granddaughter joined us.....the weather continues to be hot...for the foreseeable future as well!   And windy.....it's been windy just about every day!  Not a bad thing I suppose....

Join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphis Monday and again tomorrow with Joanne at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesdays!!!
