A Visit To The Garden Store

We took the short drive to Vesey's Seeds....the spot where Mr. Seventies buys vegetable seeds for the upcoming gardening season.  We tend to go early in the season..... sometimes the seeds sell out!  Every Christmas Mr. Seventies is gifted a certificate to use at Veseys.....he had written his list a couple of days earlier....so off we went!

There was another couple in the store.....about our age...doing the exact same thing!  Great minds think alike!  While Mr. Seventies gather up his seed packages.....I browsed the gift shop....

This sweatshirt is right up Mr. Seventies alley!  So true...

I think this book might be a great Father's Day gift idea....

We have this potato cookbook already (written by an Island author) ....although we don't eat an abundance of potatoes!  A few weeks back....a number of local farmers opened their warehouses - and anyone could fill bags with potatoes.....at no cost!  Mr. Seventies & daughter came home with two shopping bags full!  (although we gave her most of ours......as they eat more potatoes than we do)....

I think this would look awesome in our garden....either the veggie or flower gardens....

I love anything with foxes.....and this garden flag is no exception!  However....I get mine so much cheaper on-line....and have an abundance of them already.....

This is a great garden stand & flag.....I do prefer the flag holders that you push directly into the soil....with our winds....this I suspect would blow over pretty quick.....

At first glance I thought these were painted terra cotta pots.....however they are vinyl.   Still very pretty & available in a variety of sizes and painted patterns.....

By this time, Mr. Seventies had his seeds safely tucked in a paper bag....and was happy to get everything on his list....

In other news.....I popped into Home Sense one afternoon....and came across the Easter bunny/dachshund piece....this time marked down....immediately added to cart.....I only have so much resistance.....

How pretty is this candle vase?  I'm not a huge fan of their candles.....but once burned this little container would be an awesome little vase.....

Home Sense seems to always have an awesome collection of mugs.....and I love anything sunflower....however I have enough mugs on hand to open my own coffee shop.....

In other news.....today we will be given the time to be at the hospital tomorrow for Mr. Seventies surgery....a quick call this afternoon to the pre-surgery clinic to advise us....

I know Mr. Seventies is a bit anxious & that is understandable....but he will be relieved when surgery is over & he is home.  The surgery itself takes about an hour and a half...then an hour in recovery & if all goes well....I'll be able to bring him home.  Daughter is available to assist if I need a bit of help....but I'm not anticipating any problems....

In anticipation of the arrival of Miss Clancy Mae.....I popped into the pet store at the end of our road...and was immediately disappointed how little the worker knew about the dog food I was interested in.  I had gone in to purchase a bag of Oven Baked Tradition....a Canadian company in Quebec that oven bakes its dog kibble.  Most pet foods is cooked by extrusion.....this food is oven baked at low temperature...

Oven baked produces kibble that is denser....so your pet may eat less....but feel full.

I was turned off by the pet store worker's lack of knowledge on the product....and they only had limited bags of adult & senior dog food.  A puppy needs food packed with protein.....and a variety of vegetables, fruits & supplements for growing strong....

I left the store & went directly to Global Pet Foods.....where I not only know the owner of the store....the staff are extremely knowledgeable about the products they sell....most having gone on tours of facilities.  I was not disappointed....the young man I spoke with took the time to answer all my questions (although I was well versed beforehand)..

He asked if the breeder was sending a bit of the current food Clancy Mae is being fed....(I've requested some be sent so I can make the transition)....(most breeders...not all.... feed store brand dog kibble....which is less costly than higher priced brands...they usually have an abundance of dogs & pups to feed).  If however,  none is sent he recommended  mixing a bit of cooked white rice into the kibble....(she is currently being fed Purina Chicken & Rice).....

I chose a small bag to make the transition....... happy that it's small bites for small breeds.  And dense & chewable....I hope she has a good appetite!  Most dachshunds do......Liesel was the exception however....

Also Global has a buyer's reward program....when you've purchased 12 bags...the 13th bag is free.....great incentive...

Mother Nature has decided to go out like a lion.....we have a "Special Weather Statement" issued for Tuesday night into Wednesday.  Snow, ice pellets & freezing rain!  Ugh.  Winter go away. I'm thankful the statement wasn't issued for tonight into tomorrow.....so there is that....

Be sure to join me later today over at https://betweennapsontheporch.net/ for Metamorphosis Monday & again tomorrow at https://www.myslicesoflife.com/ for Talking About It Tuesday....

Fingers crossed this potential winter mess will be a no show!!  I plan to update tomorrow after we arrive home from the hospital....please keep Mr. Seventies in your thoughts & prayers!

Thank you so much for being here with me....I so appreciate your company!

Til next time....

  1. Will be sending good vibes to your hubby. Hope his surgery goes well and he’ll be home and recovering well very soon. I know what you mean about mugs. They seem to breed in my cupboards. I have two or three favourites but I suppose l could swap them out. Sure hope that winter storm doesn’t materialize. Maybe it’s an April Fool joke. Hugs, Elaine

  2. Hi Charlotte. My first comment disappeared somewhere so I'll try again. Yes, March is definitely going out like a lion and here as well. We work up to two inches of snow this morning and more expected this evening. Ugh. So very tired of winter lol. The little Easter Bunny/Dachshund piece is adorable. I really hope Mr. Seventies surgery goes well tomorrow and that the nasty weather disappears out to sea somewhere. Take good care over there, my friend!
