And The Beat Goes On....

More base moulding install to continue today.  After a knee injury sidelined our contractor for a few days...he is tentatively set to be here today.   We are waiting casings at the mill suppliers...but in the meantime...the mouldings can continue.

Mr. Seventies has five of the eight rooms painted...and has been busy painting all the window frames...the large family room window, kitchen and vanity room windows are finished.  We are going to allow the paint to cure before re-installing the shutters.  Who doesn't love a large sheet thumb tacked to their window in the meantime?

I picked up the paint for the guest bedroom...Dusty Olive...a Behr paint colour.  And colour matched at Home Homeware using Beautitone paint...although it's not going to show it's true colour on many monitors.  The gal who mixed the paint commented on what a beautiful colour it is.   I agree.

With that new colour...I've ordered a pretty duvet cover set...I absolutely love how it has ties on the bottom of the cover and the shams...the colours are a pretty green/grayish look...

Mr. Seventies is currently removing the casing and mouldings from the master bedroom and sanding any wall areas that required repair.  The faux shiplap behind the bed came off in less than five minutes...without leaving any sticky residue.  It will get wiped down prior to painting just to be certain.

The sun is out...beautiful blue sky today.  Extremely windy here overnight...but all is currently calm.

Just a quick update today...hope you have a great day there too!!

Busy Couple of Days

I'm not sure if anyone else gets as excited about wood casings and mouldings like I do....but peeps...can't tell you how amazing they are looking! While contractor/friend Paul was installing them....Mr. Seventies was painting my vanity/dressing room!!

The hall mouldings and casings are installed....and one piece left to finish the kitchen.  (nails holes to be filled & painted)...

Have you ever seen anything so pretty?  They just elevate the whole look of the house....it's not feeling so "seventies" now...this is the kitchen area...

Not showing off Liesel's water bowl...this is a good photo of the moulding detail...

We need to pick up more door casings...fingers crossed the mill has been able to get the wood required...as with most places...materials are in short supply here.  The shop where we purchase what we need mills their own...but needs the wood to be able to do so.  They have an enormous supply of the base mouldings....but the casings are in short supply.  We are going to check tomorrow....

And....three more rooms have been added to the painting schedule...the master bedroom, the gues bedroom and the back entry.  I know I have never purchased so much paint!!  But Mr. Seventies is on a roll...who am I to interfere, right?  I have the paint for the master bedroom...hope to pick up paint for the back entry and guest bedroom today.  The Beautitone paint at Home Hardware (which is the best paint in our opinion) is on sale....so good time to knock off about $25 for a couple of gallons!

And...the leather chair was delivered...I am in love.  If you can be in love with a chair that is....it is gorgeous, soft leather....*swoon*

And...can't wait to get rid of the "boob" light fixtures in the bedrooms...not that we use them much...but I have these ones on order.  One for each room...this pic shows yellow Edison bulbs...I use the clear Edison bulbs.  These fixtures look small but they are not really...and are perfect for bedrooms....

Today I think the plan is to have the front entry & family room base mouldings installed.  Not only is our house having work done....Paul is installing a new bathroom in his own home (about three houses up the street from ours)....nothing like spring weather to get everyone motivated!

No word on my other chair being shipped yet...fingers crossed I'll get an update on that soon.

The weather is going to be wet & windy for the weekend...mostly rain....with a bit of snow mixed in.   It's been nice while it lasted...and it's been great the guys can set up the necessary saws and power tools outside...but it still makes a mess indoors. But it is worth it in the end!

Have a great weekend where ever you are!

Mid Week Catch Up

It's been a productive couple of days here...so let's catch up.  Firstly, the hall light fixture I ordered on March 8th had still not been shipped.  I decided to cancel the order...and picked up this one...which is very similar...one less light maybe...

Mr. Seventies shared it was a very simple install...and I'm very happy, not only with how awesome it looks...but the amount of light it gives, so much more than the "boob" light fixture previously installed....

We also loaded up the SUV (and it was packed) with about 75% of my home decor...and took it to the Mission Store.  Feels good to be able to let the house breathe...if you understand what I mean.  I came across a couple of 20 x 20 feather pillow inserts. in my stash...and ordered a couple of beautiful linen covers in this beautiful cranberry colour (Amazon)...the reviews are great & they come in a wide variety of colours...

It was such a warm day I had the opportunity to take these ceramic bowls (they are not planters...but actual bowls from Home Sense)...outside and spray paint them a textured brown.

The plants are fairly large...you really don't see much of the bowls...but I'm pleased with how they turned out.  When the temps warm up in a few weeks...I plan to give them another couple of coats of the Hammered Brown by Rustoleum...

The spider plant covers most of the bowl....must be my experienced "green thumb".....lol...

We decided to add a re-do the master bedroom as well...I think I will use my Ikea farmhouse duvet cover set as a jump off point.  I ordered a king size down duvet to fill the cover...our current queen duvet is small.  It barely hangs over the bed...in my opinion it is the size for a twin bed.  It's a Pacific Coast brand duvet...but not a generous size at all.  Since I want a puffy, soft comfortable feel...I decided to order a king duvet and hopefully it will give me the look and feel I'm wanting.  Although dark in the photo...the colour is actually gray & white...

Today I'm picking up a second gallon of trim paint...and will browse the paint chips for a colour for the master bedroom...Mr. Seventies & contractor friend plan to begin installing the door casings today...and picking up the base mouldings so they can be painted.

Mr. Seventies was able to put two coats of trim paint on the kitchen windows...and they look so fresh and pretty.  And he cleaned the windows inside & out...since they are located on the north side of the house...winter storms thrown snow, rain & dirt on the windows and screens.  Fingers crossed no more major storms for this year!

He also got a start on the large window in the family room...he removed the magnets for the shutters...sanded, wood filled and caulked areas that needed repair.  It will likely be a few days before he removes the shutters and gets the window frame painted...since he will be installing casings and painting the base trim...

We've been enjoying spring like temperatures...a great motivator!  Not naive enough to think winter is done with us yet though.   We are more likely to have a "white" Easter as we are to have a "white" Christmas.

On that note, I hope you have an awesome day where you are!!

Wonderful Birthday Weekend & Accent Chair Decision

Not only has the weather been sunny & warm...I celebrated my birthday!!  I am so blessed to have the greatest husband, daughters, grand daughters, extended family & friends.  We celebrated with a barb-b-que and my sweet son-in-law made the most delicious cheese cake (my favourite kind of birthday cake!).

I've shared how my newest grand baby was born with a very large hole in her heart...and at the tender age of three months went through successful open heart surgery.  Such a difficult time...Covid arrived just a couple of weeks before she was born...and for the next number of months contact could only be done via video chats, texts and calls.  Most of this little one's first three months was spent in and out of hospitals...and finally on her third month birthday...at the sick children's hospital three hours away...(after an emergency air flight) she underwent an 8 hour surgery to repair her little heart...

I'm thrilled to report her recovery has been amazing....she will soon celebrate her first birthday!  To honour our little "heart warrior"... for my birthday I was gifted this t-shirt from her...

My two younger grand children also gifted their Mimi with a beautiful mug...I will use it daily...

Behind my mug, to the left is a new electric tart warmer and tarts my oldest grand daughter gifted me...she knows her Mimi too well...

Mr. Seventies out did himself...as always..gifting me a stunning rose gold & diamond watch...

And a beautiful bouquet of red roses...how I have missed flowers in the house!  Selection is not great right now...but he was able to gift me with one dozen of them...

I received gift cards to a couple of my favourite haunts....and Amazon!  As you can see...I am truly blessed and so grateful to have such a loving family.  Due to Covid restrictions...travel for my daughter and three grand daughters was impossible...hopefully soon the travel "bubble' will open and we will be able to hug in person.  Going to be a very happy day...as Thanksgiving was the last time we could all be together.

In other news...I have ordered an accent chair!  It has been a struggle to find one...I think this one will go well with the leather sofa & chair.  The matching leather chair is being delivered Thursday....this is the other one I have on order...

I chose the brown and off white buffalo check fabric...as there is brown in the family room area rug...and I think it will fit in nicely with the neutral palette I'm leaning towards.  It is an accent chair...and will not likely be used on a daily basis...but extra seating was a must.  I'll share photos when it arrives as well...

It's nice to think with this amazing weather we are having that spring has arrived!  But I somehow suspect winter is not done with us yet.  Plan to get out and enjoy the fresh air...I hope you have an awesome day as well!!

Friday Update

Look familiar?  This was my original choice for the front entry...then I decided on the copper finish  fixture instead....

I should always go with my gut.  I returned the copper one...and loaded this one in my cart instead.

And no...the plastic covering the shade will not be staying.  Once the painting is done...it will be removed...and can we just talk about the wall colour?  Gorgeous...and brings so much light to an otherwise dark entry...

And this, my friends..is why women live longer than men...nothing like being about 15 feet in the air!  (from someone terrified of heights...I get nauseous having Mr. Seventies up there).

But he did fine...not sure it helps that he has no fear of heights though.   He has a second coat to put on...then the entry painting should be done!!

The matching leather chair is being delivered next week!  Yay!!

I "stumbled" across a paint colour I may want for the master bedroom....going to stew on that a while for now...

Spring arrives in the next few days...well at least on the calendar.  We are a couple of months away from actual spring...but we are looking forward to it!

Have an awesome weekend & stay safe!

Hall and Door Casings Are Painted

Mr. Seventies has been making great progress...the hall has two coats of paint (Mocha Accent by Behr).  The colour is actually lighter than on the paint chip...but it looks so fresh & pretty.  (a sneak peek in the photo below)...

The door casings we have so far have been painted as well...I stood a piece up against the closet door in the hall...and am loving the look.  So nice to get rid of the 70's casings and base boards!!  They have done their time...

They are appearing as white..but it's actually a cream colour...all interior doors and window casings will be painted the same colour...

We hope to pick up the rest of the casings and base mouldings...Mr. Seventies will putter away at painting them.  He will also move on to the front entry ( Merino Wool by Behr s well)...removing the old light fixture & installing the new one before he begins painting.  The hall light fixture is still en route.

Then he can get a start on refreshing the interior doors...as I've shared previously....something like this.  We will re-use our pewter finish door knobs...as they & the matching hinges are relatively new. And when you have eight doors to do....that is quite a savings...

Things are moving along.  Still on the hunt for a second accent chair...maybe when the chair that matches the sofa arrives...I will find something.

We are back into cold windchills in the overnight hours...with brisk winds.  Spring here is just a day on the calendar!

Have an awesome day & stay safe!

Mini Update

We are still puttering away here...Mr. Seventies picked up the door casings a few days ago...and has been busy getting two coats of paint on them in our neighbour's heated workshop.  Who knew door casings could be so beautiful?  Once he gets a couple installed...I will share photos.

Today...he begins the hallway...removing the baseboards...and painting the walls.  The gorgeous sofa...which is even more beautiful than I anticipated...was delivered.  Oh..I am in luv.  My much beloved pallet cow painting is back in her place...the walls are freshly painted..end tables and wood lamp bases received a much needed coat of clear wax & buffed for protection....

The quality of the sofa is second to none...Canadian made..strong durable construction...seats are firm..yet comfortable.  Leather is soft and warm to the touch...almost suede leather...so beautiful.  Hopeful the matching chair will be delivered next week.  The two young delivery guys were amazing...took such great care in bringing it in..it's the first ever piece of furniture that actually did not have to be lifted up and over the half wall...but was able to come up the front steps, fully turn...set into place!

And the entry light fixture arrived and I did curb side pick up...if you remember this is the one I ordered...

Not a great photo...as it is still in the box...but this is the underside of the fixture...I think I'm going to love it.  The hall fixture should arrive in a couple of days...

We have lived in this seventies split for about thirty four years...and in all that time the cold air exchange grille has never been replaced.  I just presumed it was no longer available...and every couple of years I would spray paint the original.  I happen to come across the exact grille cover required...that matches the rest of our heat vent covers...who knew?  I had to order it in at the hardware store...and it only took a few days to arrive.  It's the little things people...gives me such great pleasure..and it fits perfect.

I came across these and thought "how awesome would they look in my dish cabinet?"  I know...I have my Mason's collection...but I could not resist getting a set of these for the cabinet.  If I can find some pretty wall paper, wrapping paper or anything that might show these off in my cabinet....I may line the shelf backs...so these will stand out a bit more....
I've ordered only one set...will wait and see if that is enough to display...

I couldn't resist the co-ordinating platter...and there are a host of other pieces available if I wish to add more....and I do have some farm decor that I can add into the mix...

We are still needing an accent chair in the family room...so my search continues.  The wicker patio love seat has gone back into storage...it's nice to have an actual piece of furniture to sit on!  Still using the wicker patio chair...for a few more days.

That's the update from here for now!  Sun is out...we've been enjoying milder temperatures the last few days.  Winter is a long way from being over...but it's nice to know it's not that far off!

Have an awesome weekend!!

Two Rooms Painted-Lots More To Do!

The kitchen and family room now sport fresh coats of paint!  I'm not going to share photos just yet...we are a long way from completion..and most door casings and base boards have been removed.  Feels like we are living like we did when we first married...when we had very little...but at least now it's a choice.  A pre-painting pic...before the tv was taken down.

One thing we are loving is opening the shutters fully & letting glorious light and sun in...our plan is to not barricade the window again with furniture.  We ordered new magnetic closures for these shutters...as a couple were broken and no longer working. And all the windows casings will require fresh paint beforehand.   It will take about a week or ten day for them to arrive.

We moved the dish cabinet to a different corner & since it is empty, I spent an afternoon waxing and buffing it along with the end tables and wooden lamp bases.   I will say it will be nice to sit on "real" furniture again...as opposed to the patio pieces....

After struggling to find a suitable chair...I decided to add the matching chair to the leather sofa...it may not be delivered this week with the sofa...as it is coming from their warehouse.  I still need to find a second suitable chair...as we do require more seating...and a love seat is not an option...

We spent some time going through the various choices of wood casings and base board at a local woodworking shop...and we've chosen some gorgeous trims.  Kicking myself for not taking photos...I was caught up with all the choices!  This company manufactures their own wood pieces...and wood as I'm sure you are likely aware...is at a premium right now,  With Covid restrictions and a surge in building and renovations...it's put a strain on suppliers.

Friends waited nine weeks for their new garage doors to be delivered...and the trim they have chosen for their new home has a three month wait time!  We chose from stock that is currently available...and the sales rep placed a Sold sign & our name on the dozens of feet of stock we chose.  Since most pieces are sold in 16 ft lengths...we couldn't take any with us...but our contractor & friend will pick it up (he & Mr. Seventies will be installing all the wood work).  More painting for Mr. Seventies before it gets installed...

I've chosen a couple of new light fixtures as well...this one for the front entry...(as. much as I loved the one I found previously....I refuse to spend over $500 for one fixture)....I love the farmhouse-industrial vibe on this one one I have ordered...

From the underside...crushing on the aged copper look...and Edison bulbs are my thing...

And for the hallway...this fixture.  I wish when we had  pot lights installed in the kitchen...a year or so ago...I had a second ceiling fixture installed in the hallway.  There is only one currently...but you can't bribe an electrician right now...they are all so busy...and as much as Mr. Seventies is capable of installing the necessary electrical...I refuse to allow him to crawl through the attic above.  That is a job for the younger generation!  If sometime in the future we do require electrical work...I may get an additional fixture put in.  For now...this one will work just fine...again with the Edison bulbs.  And I'm loving they are available in a bit more clear...not such a yellow/orange glow....

Depending if the entry light fixture arrives this week...the front entry might be the next painting job on the list.  If the fixture arrives...then Mr. Seventies will have the scaffolding in place to remove the old one and install the new...before he paints.  We are also considering doing the hallway first...as I don't want a freshly painted entryway scuffed when the new furniture is delivered.  In the past...with any furniture delivery...the pieces are required to be lifted up and over the half wall into the family room...there is not enough "turn" space at the top of the front entry stairs and hall.  No one thought of that when they built this seventies split!!

So that is where we are for now.  I'm loving the new paint colours...it's amazing how a bit of paint can transform rooms!  And I'm very lucky Mr. Seventies enjoys painting...and is so good at it.

The sun is out...the sky is blue...another gorgeous day in the forecast.  Not silly enough to think spring has arrived yet...we still have a lot of winter left yet.  Hope you have an awesome day & stay safe!!

Summer Picks

With March coming in like a bit of a lion...it was awesome to receive an order with some summer wear...and a couple of pieces on winter clearance...such as this cute turban hat...love the decorative jewellery...

And mitts to complete the look....these are great for wearing while driving....

So looking forward to summer and warmer temps...a couple of cover up cami pieces...

Love me anything tie dye...so pretty and super comfortable....and pockets!!

I love this flowy dress...great to pair with a pair of sandals...to wear anywhere...

I can definitely wear this with denim capris or shorts underneath....love the ruffle detail on the sleeves....

I'm loving wearing this...unbuttoned down the front over jeans and a t-shirt...

This top is so soft and comfortable...I can wear with jeans or leggings...love the attention to detail on the bottom...and the flowers remind me of lavender stems...

Those are a few of my picks...everything is awesome quality and fit beautifully....

So...this happened last evening....remember this pretty shelf I repainted & Mr. Seventies hung in the main bath?

As I was watching a show on my laptop with ear phones in...Mr. Seventies had finished his physio exercises & was in the downstairs shower...when suddenly this shelf came crashing down!!  Scared the bejezuz out of us!   There were two loud crashes...as one side let go...and then the other!  Everything smashed to the floor and in the bath tub!!  The three canisters on the top broke into a dozen pieces...as well as the decorative perfume bottle!  A real mess to clean up...and a couple of wall areas suffered damage...

The wall scrapes can be patched and repainted.  The brackets on the back of the shelf...let go!  The screws holding up the shelf are secure...anchored in studs...but the shelf brackets need to be heavy duty.  We will pick up some stronger ones...I'm sad to lose my canisters but will check to see if Michael's still have them.

Enough excitement for us for one night!!

The Fun Has Begun

The slipcovered furniture was picked up on Saturday!  It was a gorgeous, mild & sunny day...perfect opportunity for the buyer.   I picked up the cushion cover that required a new zipper before the furniture was taken...and btw..the bill for the repair was a whopping $10!   I'm keeping this seamstresses contact information for future reference...she did an amazing job.

This is how we are rolling for the time being...patio furniture to the rescue...and for the record...there are gallons of paint idling...

Liesel is thankful to have a spot to snuggle up beside me...after all her comfort is front and centre...

Liesel enjoying the Saturday afternoon sun...

We plan to roll up the area rug when Mr. Seventies begins painting this room.  The new leather sofa is tentatively set for delivery on Thursday.  I say tentatively...as we are in a 72 hour lock down...as new clusters of Covid have surfaced.  The store has assured me the delivery men use sanitizer and will be masked...and in and out quickly.

I haven't found chairs yet...Mr. Seventies has said to take my time..so I am in no panic.  In the meantime...the kitchen is painted!!  The colour (which means nothing) is called Garden Wall by Behr.  A quick before...

And the after..there is very little wall space in the kitchen...the cabinets take up the bulk of space.  As always, natural light...especially early morning with pending snowfall and no sun...makes the kitchen darker.  When the window shades were removed...and with a lighter colour on the walls...it has made a huge difference!  The shades will not be going back up...they have served their purpose...and were impossible to clean...other than vacuum and wipe down.  Privacy is not an issue in the kitchen..there are no  homes directly behind us...and all anyone would see would be heads! And I do not like window valances...or curtains in general...

As Mr. Seventies is painting...he is removing the base boards and we are going to replace them...along with all the door trim.  For the entire house.  We plan to visit a shop that specializes in trim and mouldings...and we will pick out  new everything.

One paint choice I had originally picked for the hallway...is going in my vanity room.  It was the one colour choice that was throwing me off.  I've chosen mostly neutral, earthy tones...and that paint  colour seemed to have too much gray for my liking.  The hall colour is now Mocha Accent,  the front entry is going to be lighter...Merino Wool...and the family room Grey Squirrel...(while that colour has a gray undertone...it's more brown.)  All paints are Behr colours...but Beautitone paint.

While having the paint mixed...have you ever smelled "spoiled" paint?  I didn't know that could happen...the the gentleman mixing the paint certainly caught a rotten egg odour from the paint!  Boy...was it nasty!  He said he doesn't come across that problem very often...but it does occasionally happen!   Glad he caught it before I took the paint home.

While the furniture was being picked up on Saturday...Liesel & I took a short trip to purchase a new toaster!  If you remember the pretty pink-ish one I purchased...it was a piece of junk!  An expensive piece of junk...either burned the toast or popped up every few seconds!  Annoyed the heck out of us!  And it was very heavy and cumbersome.  As a parting gift, I cut my finger when I went to pick it up & put it in the recycling box!  Since I came across unused gift cards a couple of weeks ago...no better time than now to use one for a toaster...

Our choice...much lighter and working great so far...

So we are well underway.  When Mr. Seventies finishes painting the front entry...he's going to install a new light fixture...since he will have scaffolding in place.  I still need to choose a fixture...it may be the one I posted the other day from Home Depot...the one pictured here in the centre...

So...that is an update for now.  The plan is to paint the family room next..if Mr. Seventies has a day at home this week or on the weekend,  Today...we are expecting snow, ice pellets and rain...a perfect day to have a pot of home made beans in the oven!  A once in a year treat for us!!  And a delicious dessert from my Crazy Spoons cookbook...Dream Team Cream Pie it's called.  Low in fat of course...but one of Mr. Seventies favourite desserts.

Have an awesome day everyone & stay safe!!
