Veterinary Appointment

Clancy Mae visited the vet clinic yesterday...and was introduced to her new veterinarian....Dr. Christa (that is what she goes by) and our first appointment went well!

When checking Clancy's ears....Dr. Christa took swabs from each ear....(without prompting from me)....when I had given Clancy her bath & cleaned her ears....I was concerned with the "ick" in both ears!   The swabs revealed she has a yeast & bacteria infection!

I felt horrible I didn't take Clancy in right away ..... I suspected something not right with her ears!  She was shaking her head...more than the normal head shake....

She was prescribed Surolan 15 ml drops to administer twice daily in each ear twelve hours apart for the next fourteen days!  As of this morning....she's had three doses......

She had her second round of immunizations...along with the Leptospirosis vaccine & oral Bordetella (kennel cough).  Since we are attending puppy classes....it's important to have the oral "vaccine".

Lepto in puppies is serious....  it is a  fatal bacterial infection which can cause kidney or liver failure.  It is contracted  from water (or water bowls) or outside soil/ground  contaminated with wildlife urine.  She will have her final round of immunizations, including rabies at her next appointment in early June.

She had previously been wormed twice....beginning May 1she will start Nexgard Spectra which treats worms, fleas & ticks.  It's a monthly pill like treatment...some treat year round....I treat from May til the end of December (unless we have a very mild winter).

Clancy Mae had a mild reaction....tired & no appetite!  Likely from the Lepto vaccine.... the injection area is a bit tender.  During the night she improved & ate a few kibble....and more importantly.....drank water!   This morning she is back to herself....ate a full breakfast & is drinking,

And she currently weighs 4 1/2 lbs.!  Up from 3 lbs she weighed on March 31, 2026....she is growing & filling out nicely....

She prompted a great deal of attention at the clinic.....with another red dachshund arriving for his appointment!  Clancy Mae was a bit timid - he had a loud bark....and was much bigger.  They scanned her micro chip....she has two!  Her breeder couldn't get the first one to scan properly....so another chip was implanted.  Both worked at the vet clinic....which is great....

Today is daughter's birthday!  We are celebrating her day & our son-in-law's birthday on the weekend (his is a few days after hers)!  A request for home-made pizza....and I ordered an ice-cream cake from What's the Scoop's ice cream shop!

We are getting together with our neighbours Saturday evening....they are excited to meet Clancy Mae...

The weather is forecasting sun & cloud today & tomorrow with temperatures in the double digits....a great day to get out for our walk....

That's about it for today....I greatly appreciate you spending time with me....

Til next time....
