What A Month It Has Been!!

It's hard to believe we are in the last week in March...and even though we are pretty much housebound these days...the time seems to be flying by...

To combat the stir craziness Mr. Seventies, Liesel and I went for a drive the other day.  It was such a gorgeous spring day....it is hard to comprehend how much our world has changed in the past few weeks.

The beautiful Charlottetown waterfront and boardwalk...

Just look at that beautiful blue sky!  There were so many vehicles parked along the boardwalk...people like us...just enjoying the view without social contact.

One area of the downtown core...pretty much deserted...

Usually the streets are full of people...and it's difficult to find a parking spot on most days...but it is great that people are staying home...

Mr. Seventies picked me up a Diamond Dotz painting kit...I'd never heard of them before.  I watched a few u-tube tutorials..and can't wait to start it...the cloth canvas comes in a kit like this.

Rather than using paint...you apply little diamond pieces following the pattern grid..this piece is about 25" x 20".....when completed...this is how it will look..

Once completed...I'll have it framed if I'm happy with the results.  I think there is a step or two you follow before you frame it...I have to watch a couple more tutorials when I get to that stage.  Apparently these kits have been around for a while...but I'm just discovering them now.  And with being stuck indoors...might be a good time to putter away on one. '

I ordered a couple more items for the master bedroom refresh...I've been looking for one last cushion for the bed....and think this one will be perfect...with most stores closed...this one is on Bed Bath and Beyond website...(using a 20% off coupon of course)...

I've been searching for a set of candle holders...and discovered just how expensive they can be!  I found these on Amazon...exactly what I wanted in three different heights...

And a set of wooden beads...just to lay on the dresser or night stand....

I couldn't resist this stacked figurine...it's been on my must haves list for a while now...

And I couldn't resist this adorable little pig tea light holder...so cute!!

Still now news on the grand baby front!  If she has not made her debut by Wednesday morning...and induction will be required.  Still holding out hope she will come along on her own...but if not...praying we have a new arrival this week!

Something so exciting to look forward to during these difficult times!

Start To Guest Bedroom Refresh

I finally found a bit of motivation to get a start on the guest bedroom refresh...I had previously ordered a comforter set...which I thought had a bit of lavender in it.  The photos appeared to show lavender.

It was not lavender.  But rather a dark gray....it even appears lavender in the room.  I'm fine with it...it's fresh, spring like and pretty.  I tossed one of my crotchet throws on the bed....it looks great.

I still have some things to shop for...a second small nightstand and a set of bedside lamps.  And that will just about be it for this room.  It is very small...so the less things taking up space....the better.  I may hang a bit more wall decor....

This is my new to me find...can't wait for Mr Seventies to re-do it!  I have the perfect spot for it in the family room....and it has storage under neath.  I purchased it on-line from my junking shop in Summerside....once this pandemic is over and the store re-opens we will take a drive and pick it up.

It is solid maple...not sure what paint colour I'm leaning towards. Probably going to use Fusion paint again...while we are in Summerside we will visit the shop that carries the paint line...and I will choose a colour then.  I can't decide if I want to go a neutral shade or a bold pop of colour.  I'll know the colour when I see it!!

My sweet daughter, son-in-law & grand dog Benson left a container of delicious home made muffins on our back deck last evening....I even got to stand on the front step & send virtual hugs & kisses!  This was the adorable note attached....

A delicious banana/chocolate chip and blueberry muffins treat!!

Even though we text and chat every day...it's not the same.  We will be so thankful when this pandemic crisis is over and everyone is safe and healthy.  We are abiding strictly to the guidelines of self isolating...and when grocery items are needed...Mr. Seventies goes to one store...at special hours designated for the older population....practices social distancing and gets in and gets out.

And look who has been hiding away...just waiting for her rightful place?  I purchased her before the pandemic crisis...I made the poor error in judgement of leaving her in the store.  Thankfully, when I came to my senses and returned...she was still there.  Meant to be I tell ya.

You will have to check back and see where she ends up being hung up!!

Stay safe and at home peeps!

Self Isolating - Life or Death

Can we talk?

For people, like myself....with heart issues and an auto immune disease (among other health problems)...the importance of self isolating is imperative.  Most Islanders are following the guidelines set by our provincial Chief Health Officer (who is doing an amazing job of keeping Islanders up to date daily)...but for those who don't...since we are in a state of medical emergency....fines will be handed out to those who don't comply.

The New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border has been closed to traffic....deemed non-essential...I suspect our Island will do the same in the following days. Traffic is currently being monitored to and from the Island.   In my opinion..it should have happened weeks ago...no non essential travel...via bridge or air...should have been halted   Truck drivers bringing grocery store, pharmaceutical supplies and medical vehicles are considered essential.

I know some are insistent we bring people home from wherever they are vacationing or working...but why are we risking it?  Travellers were warned weeks ago to go home....most ignored the warnings.  Now, suddenly it's imperative...at our cost to bring these people home.  Rather than risk more COVID19 infections....they should self isolate where they are currently.  I've heard private health insurance companies are cancelling their insurance coverage....again...they were warned this could happen...but took the risk.  I might sound harsh but it's time to get real people!

I am both sad and angry...because of this scary situation we are unable to be with our daughter and husband when our grand daughter is born.  Or even be in the hospital at the time...and unable to see her when she is taken home.  My heart is broken...but her health and mine are too important to jeopardize.

I pray this nightmare ends soon and you & your family are healthy & safe.  Please follow the health guidelines put in place to protect everyone....you may not contract the virus...but could potentially spread it to others.

That is pretty much how it feels here!  All non-essential stores and businesses have shut down...grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations...which are all considered essential are allowed to open limited hours.  Parts of government....ones considered non essential, schools, dental clinics, physiotherapy, hair salons...almost every place has been closed since the beginning of the week.

Mr. Seventies did make a quick trek to the grocery store...to pick up a few things...even now he reports it was very busy and some shelves are quite bare.  Like other places...people are panicking and binge buying...you cannot teach intelligence is what I say!

Some of my bedroom decor items have arrived, I may start working on the bedrooms over the weekend...trying to keep busy.  We've been able to take advantage of some great weather and walk with Liesel...today it's going to continue to rain until early afternoon.

Since my birthday is tomorrow...and while we won't be having a family celebration...Mr. Seventies felt a birthday cake was still required!  Since our regular cake shop is closed...he sweetly picked up one while at the grocery store.  They were unable to customize it...but gave him the Happy Birthday to place on the top.  My hubby is the most thoughtful, sweet guy!  I'm sad we can't celebrate with our family.. but does this mean I don't need to turn a year older?  Hahaha...

Baby grand daughter will be coming into this world at a crazy time in our lives....but we are beyond happy and excited nonetheless.

Now...let's see if she can be the ultimate birthday present and arrive on March 21st!!

These Are Scary Times

I trust and pray that everyone is self isolating and only going out when absolutely necessary.  That doesn't mean you can't get out for walks & enjoy the fresh air.  And it's a great time to turn our attention indoors getting a jump on spring cleaning, completing odd jobs around the house and/or giving everything a refresh!

Before we were in lock down mode, I was able to pick up my new to me lamps!  And I love them....just exactly what I was searching for...this is one I can share....as Liesel & Mr. Seventies were sprawled out on the sofa....thought I would spare you that vision...lol...
The bases are gorgeous solid wood....the shades are the in perfect condition...and a bargain at $60 for the pair!  I've seen similar ones for $129.99....I am glad I waited and found these ones....gotta love Facebook Marketplace!

I've mentioned earlier that I'm an online shopper....and with the ongoing health crisis...that means most stores and shops are either closed or empty.

I found a couple of cute wall decor items for the master bedroom refresh.....this one I plan to hang in front of my antique window frame....

And this one I ordered just because I love it...I'll find a spot for it I'm sure....

I couldn't resist this cushion cover....I love how it has the look and feel of a grain sack...

Mr. Seventies reminded me there is a large canvas painting in the trunk of the SUV....forgot to bring it  in!  Can't wait to show it and everything when it is all pulled together!

My daughter's furniture slipcovers are freshly laundered, pressed & fitted back on her sofa and love seat.  We are awaiting the arrival of our new grand daughter....it was originally thought I may not be able to be present  for her debut (more for my protection...due to my health issues)...but as of today both myself and my son-in-law can be there.  Or I may be required to be in the parking lot on cell phone...lol!  We are just praying for a healthy baby to arrive & she and her Mom get home safe & sound!

Grand puppy Benson is doing phenomenal!  He is able to get around....still a bit wobbly on one back leg, but they assured us at his checkup & staple removal he is recovering right on track!

We had a dusting of snow overnight...and plan to keep busy puttering around the house.   Stay home everyone and let's hope this health nightmare will soon be over!

Before & After

Mr. Seventies did an amazing job on my vanity...it required sanding, priming and a couple of fresh coats of Behr satin acrylic paint (the colour is called Ballet Slipper)...

Just to recap...here is the before...(it looks nice in the photo...but it had some minor damage on the top that was repaired).  We removed the castors, but left the mirror and drawer hardware original...

And here she is....all fresh and pretty....

I did place a runner on the top for protection before adding all my "stuff" I use daily....I couldn't be happier with the results!  Kudos to Mr. Seventies!

Before all this Coronavirus hit...I had been out shopping for some decor items...and came home empty handed.  I just couldn't find anything that I had in mind...sometimes I get very distracted and overwhelmed with all the choices.  I'm much better at searching on line for exactly what I want and ordering it.   New bedding for the guest bedroom...for example.  I had considered having Mr. Seventies paint it...but the lavender colour has sentimental value to me.  Growing up...it was the colour of the bedroom I shared with my sister Pat.  We dubbed this room "Pat's room" in her honour. (she lost a short battle with lung cancer in 2016).  This pretty set should freshen things up a bit....and it has a bit of lavender pops of colour!  I think she would approve...

I've been searching for new lamps for the family room f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!  I've checked every home decor store, all the hardware stores...even Wal Mart (which was laughable)....and finally found exactly the ones I was looking for!  On Facebook marketplace!  Go figure.  There are two of them...perfect 28" height and everything!  I plan to pick them up today...

In other news, Benson will have his staples removed today!!  Hard to believe it was two weeks this very day he required back surgery...he is doing much better!  Able to walk some, albeit it wobbly...back to barking like his old self...and yesterday he & his pawrents went for a leisurely stroll....his Dad carrying him in an Outward Hound sling.  He is still on an additional 8-10 weeks of rest for his back to fully recover...but getting stronger each day!

Benson's human big sister is due within the next week!  We are so excited and cannot wait to meet her!

We are back into the deep freeze with cold windchills...spring is just a day on the calendar here folks!  Although the crocus are peeking up...we are still a long way from winter being over.  The sun is up higher these days..and with the time change the mornings are lighter and the evenings are longer.

Enjoy your day...even if we have to stick close to home...it's a great opportunity to get some spring cleaning done!  Or not!

Make Up Vanity Re-Do

I'm so excited to have Mr. Seventies working on my make up vanity!!  I purchased the vanity from an antique shop (Rose Cottage Antiques) in Summerside a while back.  The shop owner advised it is a piece from the 1940's.  To refresh your memory...here is how it looked before he got started.  I may replace the drawer pulls for some prettier ones...will be checking Home Sense to see what they have. I also had Mr, Seventies remove the casters from the legs.....not a fan of them...

While it looks good from a distance...up close you can see that it has been well loved over the years.  After a thorough wipe down, Mr. Seventies gave it a good sanding...there were some rough patches where something had either been spilled or left to dry in previous years.   Nothing some sanding and primer couldn't take care of....

The carpet was rolled up & a layer of plastic put down to protect the flooring...and the mirror was taped off...you can see the imperfections brought on by age in the mirror.   I thought about having a new mirror put in....but I love the feel and look of the original mirror....

Our supplies before the process got started....the paint is a satin acrylic from Behr in Ballet White...Zinsser primer, 120 grit sandpaper, sponge rollers and a couple of brushes....

Currently there are two coats of primer on everything...and that is all that will be required.  First coat of paint hopefully will be applied today!

We are tending to Benson today...his Mama reports the hind end harness is working well...and it is being used indoors as well to assist him in using his back legs. He is such a good boy!!

Have an awesome day wherever you are today!

Sneak Peek

Some of the goodies picked up so far....working on the master bedroom.  I saw a colour combination navy blue with red and white buffalo check..and I fell in love.  While I loved the look...I did not like the prices!  So, I set out to find a similar look...at much more affordable costs.  I set a budget...and here is what I've come up with so far....(I'll share my budget later and whether I was able to achieve it)...

Keep in mind...these are straight out of the packaging....nothing has been steamed or pressed....

I found a navy quilt set and paired it with a red and white buffalo check duvet cover set!  Once the electric blanket is removed....the duvet in the cover will add additional warmth.  The two framed pieces are Canadiana sketches...the vase I will add to a night stand.  I still have more decorative touches to shop for....

I have on order a couple of cushion covers....this is one I'm crushing on....the other one sold out after I ordered it so I cannot share a photo of it....and I'm still on the look out for a rectangle cushion...will browse Home Sense and Michaels and see what they have available.

I'm also switching out the wreath currently hanging on the antique window frame over the bed...not sure what I want yet....but will know it when I see it....

Mr. Seventies and I plan to pick up the primer and paint supplies for him to re-do my make up vanity!  I'm really excited about having it refreshed!  He thought about taking it to our neighbour's workshop...but I prefer not to haul the vanity around...but rather lay down a tarp and work on it in the room it sits in.  The mirror does come off and I need to check if getting new handles for the drawers (four of them) is an option.  I'll be sure to get before and after photos.  First step is to give it a thorough wipe down with TSP and water before putting on a coat of primer.

I plan to pick out a creamy off white paint colour...in a satin acrylic finish.

Grand pup Benson continues to recover....he is able to stand for brief periods.  We've ordered him a hind end harness to help with potty breaks...(minus the boots...lol).  This is the one chosen and it is due to arrive today....fingers crossed it works. A neck tie has been used...but since it may be a little while before he gains use of his back legs....we are hoping this harness will work better.

My son-in-law's buddies thew him a "Diaper Shower"....a fun evening for the Dad to be!  Nothing goes better with diapers than craft beer and munchies!!

We are on pins and needles waiting for our little princess' arrival!

Mild, drizzling and wet here today...I intend to pick up a bouquet of flowers to brighten up my coffee table...and enjoy a little touch of spring!!

Are you looking forward to spring too?

Challenging Week

Last week was one of those weeks!  It started out, with grand pup Benson undergoing back surgery on Monday!  Prior to needing surgery, he was treated with medications and rest...(a condition known as IVDD)....and early Monday morning he lost use of his hind legs.  When that occurs, it is usually an indication of a disc rupture and surgery is required immediately.

A quick trip to the Atlantic Veterinary Hospital where he was thoroughly examined, had a CT scan and went immediately into the OR.  Benson made it through surgery and spent the rest of the week in ICU until Friday afternoon, when he was discharged and very happy to be going home!

He is slowly gaining use of his back legs and with assistance can take a few short steps.  We are very hopeful he should regain his mobility..it can takes a number of weeks or month or two of exercises, rest and perhaps acupuncture to help with healing.  Here he is resting comfortably in his bed in front of his favourite sun spot.  Now they use staples to close the incision...whereas in our previous experience, stitches were used.  They will be removed one week from today.  We've ordered a back leg harness to assist him with his walking a bit...he will continue to use his legs more as time goes on.

His parents have been pretty worried about him...especially with big sister due this month!  There were a couple of baby showers thrown in her honour at daughter's place of work....this is one of the sleepers gifted....and her Dad's long time buddies threw him a "diaper" shower Friday evening!  She may just have enough diapers to last til potty training!!

I spent a couple of days at our hospital undergoing a series of scans and tests....which took up a couple of days...and another day with a medical appointment....so that just about consumed the week here!

I want to share a pretty awesome coffee can from my favourite junking shop.  In 1864 a distant cousin in my husband's family began a tea company in Saint John, NB...and in 1901 coffee began production.  You will likely recognize that company today as Red Rose tea.....formerly known as Estabrooks tea (the name seen on the can).   I acquired the tin and my son-in-law picked it up (as he works close by)...he knew his father-in-law would enjoy receiving a little part of his heritage....

I received birthday certificates from both places I frequently shop....and ordered a couple of lovely tops....the first one being so soft and pretty....

And I love the floral, feminine pattern on this one...it looks awesome with a pair of jeans!

I have some other things on the go, I'll share later in the week   It looks like unsettled weather the next few days.  I am loving this time change...I wish they would leave the time alone!

Snowy Weekend

Welcome to March!!  And she came in like a lioness...we had snow from morning til bed time yesterday...no winds...just lots of snow.   25 cm was predicted...and I'm certain we received that and perhaps a bit more.  Yesterday was a day in camp...but I was okay with that...gave me lots of time to dream up refreshes for the bedrooms.  It's going to be a few weeks out...as some things are on order...others I haven't decided on yet...

I'd prefer not to paint the guest bedroom..so I'm going to work with the lavender walls.  And you wouldn't believe the colours that supposedly co-ordinate with mauves and lavenders!  Oranges or yellows (neither of my favourite colours), gray, blue...white...so you see my dilemma!  One thing you can be guaranteed of...whatever I choose will be different!

An update on my grand dog, Benson...I visited with him with treats and a new toy....he's looking pretty content here....

A second medication was prescribed in addition to the pain meds...and he is doing much better.  His little tail was up..and he was obviously more comfortable.  He will continue with treatment for the next few days...then we'll see how he is doing and go from there.  With baby sister due shortly...it's very important his needs are met.  We are so thankful we gifted them with a Furbo...so they are able to monitor him on their phones when they are out.

One department at daughter's work...threw her a surprise baby shower last week!  She received some of the cutest outfits ever and gift cards...a delicious lunch was served...and just look at the adorable cookies!!  (Mr. Seventies & I had one...they were delicious...almost too adorable to eat.   Almost...

I have the baker's contact information...will want to order a couple dozen cookies for the baby shower!  There is a second shower planned with another department this week!   And friend's of her Dad's are throwing him a "Diaper Shower"!  Each guest brings their favourite "beverage" and a box of diapers!

Mr. Seventies and I took in an NBL game over the weekend...just not the same without my friend who passed in October.  We loved going to the games together...she was an avid fan.

Busy week here this week...I have three medical appointments and tests...I won't bore you with the details (that would be a blog post in itself).

Have an awesome day wherever you are today!!

BENSON UPDATE - Shortly after this post....Benson lost use of his back legs and is undergoing back surgery at our veterinary hospital.  A CAT scan showed he suffered a disc rupture at the T13 disc.  Keep our little guy in your thoughts & prayers!
