Challenging Week

Last week was one of those weeks!  It started out, with grand pup Benson undergoing back surgery on Monday!  Prior to needing surgery, he was treated with medications and rest...(a condition known as IVDD)....and early Monday morning he lost use of his hind legs.  When that occurs, it is usually an indication of a disc rupture and surgery is required immediately.

A quick trip to the Atlantic Veterinary Hospital where he was thoroughly examined, had a CT scan and went immediately into the OR.  Benson made it through surgery and spent the rest of the week in ICU until Friday afternoon, when he was discharged and very happy to be going home!

He is slowly gaining use of his back legs and with assistance can take a few short steps.  We are very hopeful he should regain his mobility..it can takes a number of weeks or month or two of exercises, rest and perhaps acupuncture to help with healing.  Here he is resting comfortably in his bed in front of his favourite sun spot.  Now they use staples to close the incision...whereas in our previous experience, stitches were used.  They will be removed one week from today.  We've ordered a back leg harness to assist him with his walking a bit...he will continue to use his legs more as time goes on.

His parents have been pretty worried about him...especially with big sister due this month!  There were a couple of baby showers thrown in her honour at daughter's place of work....this is one of the sleepers gifted....and her Dad's long time buddies threw him a "diaper" shower Friday evening!  She may just have enough diapers to last til potty training!!

I spent a couple of days at our hospital undergoing a series of scans and tests....which took up a couple of days...and another day with a medical appointment....so that just about consumed the week here!

I want to share a pretty awesome coffee can from my favourite junking shop.  In 1864 a distant cousin in my husband's family began a tea company in Saint John, NB...and in 1901 coffee began production.  You will likely recognize that company today as Red Rose tea.....formerly known as Estabrooks tea (the name seen on the can).   I acquired the tin and my son-in-law picked it up (as he works close by)...he knew his father-in-law would enjoy receiving a little part of his heritage....

I received birthday certificates from both places I frequently shop....and ordered a couple of lovely tops....the first one being so soft and pretty....

And I love the floral, feminine pattern on this one...it looks awesome with a pair of jeans!

I have some other things on the go, I'll share later in the week   It looks like unsettled weather the next few days.  I am loving this time change...I wish they would leave the time alone!
