Throwback - Laundry Room

Since our home is in such disarray...(Mr. Seventies is starting the kitchen painting today)....I thought it would be fun to remember when we completed the laundry room in the lower level.  Renovations don't seem that daunting when it's pertained to one room...

Be warned....she was really, really ugly back then!!  The lower family room is on the other side & when we finished it...Mr. Seventies had put in a sub-floor over the concrete.  Which meant...the laundry room needed to be raised...by pouring more concrete to make the rooms the same height...no more stepping down to enter.  Years before when we were connected to city sewer and water....we had the foresight to have the plumbing for the 3/4 bath that we planned to complete in this room.  That black pipe is where the shower now sits...and the tall black pipe is plumbing for the toilet...isn't she beautiful?

Don't say I didn't warn you!  Is this not the most pitiful, depressing place to do laundry?  I agree....

Before the false ceiling could be installed....this plumbing from the first bathroom renovation (directly above) was left too low....and had to be replaced & moved up closer between the floor joists....

And how it's looking today!!  Much better....the floor was levelled & tiled...when you come down the back stairs...and take a left....this is where you come into ...

Between the door and the toilet...we had to choose a narrower width shower that would fit into the space...

The cabinetry was purchased from a cabinet shop that has since closed....which is too bad...they sold beautiful cabinets and hardware.  I had our tile setter install a small backsplash behind the sink...

Remember a year ago around Christmas time when my washer died?  It was so difficult, due to Covid to get appliances....so our choices were limited.  My previous set were Kenmore from Sears....and I loved them so much!  But the washer could not be repaired...since this LG set was in stock...we went with it.  Our daughter has the same set...and it works well for her....

We had to wait 5-6 months for the bases to come in....but they were so worth the wait!  The store we dealt with is amazing...they deliver & set up everything....and remove the old!  Which is no easy feat....as these appliances are heavy....and needed to be brought down a flight of stairs!  The little dresser against the wall stores Mr. Seventies work clothes ....

This row of cabinets stores extra towels, linens and decor cushions....the hot water heater is housed in the closet (that is a code requirement) plus it's nice to have it out of sight....I house my laundry baskets on top of the cabinets....

Because the laundry room is in the lower level...it doesn't get much light...thankful though to have two windows.  Rather than go with shutters or blinds....I hung little valances & a local craftsperson made the free standing shutters.   Just enough to let in light, yet give privacy....

There used to be an adorable prim decor shop here - where our daughter picked up this cute sign & gifted it to me.....wringer washing machines were long before her time...(but not mine)....

It's fun to look back and see how far this old Seventies Split has come!  The complete lower level was one big concrete room!  Back then when this house was built (1973) ...finishing a basement was un-heard of!   We don't have a "utility room" the water heater & furnace was placed in different areas!  But such was the time.....

Once the upstairs is finished....I plan to spend a day cleaning the lower level family room....and will revisit it.  I didn't think back then to take photos of Mr. Seventies & daughter....putting up panelling on the walls (yes, it's still there)....and installing a sub floor!

Fast forward to today....my cabinet received a pretty, fresh coat of paint!  Can't wait to have the family room completed & my dishes displayed in it again!!

I took a few minutes & picked a beautiful bouquet from the lilac hedge...

When I dropped off boxes at the Mission Store the other day....I took a few minutes to browse inside...looking for much needed toys for Liesel...(sarcasm)....(she gets them after washing & drying)....I get all her stuff toys at the Mission Store....for about $1-50-$1.75 each.   Pet stores sell them for crazy, expensive prices!

I came across this pitcher for my neighbour...she has glass vases & mentioned she loved my pitchers...I thought she'd love this piece with a bouquet of fresh lilacs!

The price was only $3.50....and the brand name we're all familiar with.....

Thanks so much for hanging out & spending a bit of your time with me!  The sun is out here currently.....and it's quite windy!

Til next time.....
