Family Room

Our split entry is not a traditional split...most have two sets of stairs upon entering...one to take you to the upper level...another to go to the lower level.  Little design had gone into our split...this is our front entrance...barely wide enough to squeeze your butt through..which has made for some pretty interesting situations getting furniture in the house!  (and the back entry...pretty much the same!)  The only saving grace is the wall to the right...is a half wall...many sofas, mattresses, bath tubs...have been hoisted into the family room over that half wall!

I need to "spruce" up the entry...add a small decorative table, maybe some type of hooks...but honestly...this door seldom gets used...we are more "back door" guests kind of folks!!

When you come in the front door...you go up four stairs...and bam...you're in a hallway!  Straight to the kitchen, left to the family room or right to the rest of the house.  Yep...almost need a traffic light...

Last year we had the walls in this room skim coated...they were such a mess..bumpy drywall...poor seam filling when we dismantled the old fireplace...years of use and abuse!  So happy to have smooth, perfect walls now!

The furniture is slip covered...hard to find here in these neck of the woods.  They were required to be ordered...with about an eight week wait time...but so worth it.  I can take them off at any time for laundering...which I can do in my front load washer...or send them out for washing & pressing.  The hydrangea canvas was painted by a friend of mine...she is such a talented lady!

These photos were taken, you might have guessed in late summer or early fall....which is my favourite time of year!!

I have a real disdain for draperies...they are not my thing.  Every window on the upper level, with the exception of the kitchen (which has roman shades)....are plantation shutters.  If privacy was not an issue...I would have bare windows..but that is not an option.

The wood burning pellet stove provides most of the heat...although we run the furnace during the colder seasons...mostly at night.  Air conditioning is not really a priority...we get so few unbearable hot days....but heat...yah...we need that more!   Industrial cart coffee table is from Wayfair, as is the area rug!

This photo gives you a better idea of the half wall...and as you may have noticed...I like colour.  Lots of it...don't live in a white or beige world..so don't want a white or beige house.  Large canvas was a Wicker Emporium purchase a few years back...

Snowfurries today...mixed with rain..typical spring day in Price Edward Island.   But when nice weather finally does arrive...we will enjoy it!!
