Happy 25 Years Confederation Bridge!!

It was 25 years ago today...the Confederation Bridge opened....and connected Prince Edward Island to the mainland!

There is a generation who will never know the frustration of racing to catch the ferry....or being stuck....in ice on the ferry....in the Northumberland Strait!  For hours!   Or ferries being cancelled for days  due to high winds...ice build up or mechanical issues!  Those of us old enough will forever remember the names of the ferries....The Abby (aka the "Icebreaker",  The John Hamilton Gray,  The MV Holiday Island, and The MV Abegweit....were all ferries that we travelled the Strait from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island.

Your travels....off or to the Island...fully depended on a ferry...and in good weather was about a forty five minute crossing.  In good weather.

There has not been a day in 25 years that we have not been thankful & grateful for the Confederation Bridge that spans 13 kilometers....a mere 12 minute commute now!

So on this, the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the "Bridge"....we pay homage to this engineering wonder (which took four years to complete) and to the three workers who lost their lives during construction.
