Post Dorian

Well, we came through tropical storm Dorian over the weekend,  We had one casualty...part of the tree outside the master bedroom window...broke off with a loud c-r-a-c-k!!

That's a pretty large chunk of the tree...which landed directly on our burning bush shrub.  It was going to be beautiful this year....large and flaming red leaves.  Mr. Seventies will likely have to cut off damaged limbs from it as well.  He spent the better part of yesterday, with the help from both neighbours who offered to help...sawing, cutting and stacking wood.  Friends have a wood stove...they will come pick up the wood once clean up is finished.  We heard that four homes after us have lost trees as well...we haven't been out and about to assess the damage.

Thousands of people were without power...including our daughter and her husband.  From Saturday around 1:00 am until about 8:00 pm Sunday evening...the were without power.  We were very fortunate...ours flickered a couple of times...and we saw huge white flashes and heard loud bangs around us as transformers here being struck....but we kept our power.  Yet not far from us....many went hours and hours with none.  Daughter & hubby with grand dog in tow arrived yesterday morning for hot coffee and bagels....and later for supper....with fresh corn from our garden.

It will take Mr. Seventies a few days to get everything cleaned up and he can assess the tree.  He hasn't decided yet if he prefers to trim some long limbs...or take the tree down altogether.  Removing trees is not a decision taken lightly...but if it poses a threat during future storms...it's best to take it down.  The pool is scattered with leaves and branches...once they are cleaned out...the winter cover will go on.

It's cool here this morning....we've run the pellet stove 4-5 times during the past week.  One day the fans are running to cool us...the next the stove is running to warm us.

And lastly, a little update on our newest grand baby....due in mid March.  I accompanied my daughter to a fetal scan appointment on Friday...so far everything looks as it should.  More in depth scans and tests will be run at the IWK hospital in Halifax this week.  As I mentioned in a previous post, they have struggled with carrying to term...therefore her pregnancy is considered high risk.  Scary words..but to me it means they are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the baby is growing and doing well.

I know God has answered our prayers...we've had a few long talks as of late.

Have an awesome day!  The sun is shining...the skies are blue!
